Avatar4321 Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Do you guys have any ideas what we can do to unify our quorums in the various wards? any ideas on how those of us with 3rd hour callings taking us from priesthood meeting can unite with the quorum?
Duncan Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I am wondering that myself. When we were in EQ prior to the change, we did a get to know you game and the responses were fantastic! but now that it's combined it would take all class to get through everyone 1

Attend the meetings whenever you can, whether in the 3rd hour on Sundays or at other times when they get together. 2. Invite everybody over to your house for a potluck, or a work project at either your house or somebody else's house. 3. Support the same causes, being united in purpose. Being in the same place isn't required, necessarily. 3

Invite them directly to watch a ball game, grab lunch, or sit by them in 2nd hour. sometimes, we can look too quickly for a meeting, activity, or policy to remedy a problem that can be better addressed by one on one love. 6
Calm Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Maybe hand out strips to those who want them (don't force it on people) that randomly match two people, who then come up with something they want to do together during the week even if it is going to the local ice cream or donut shop or maybe hitting the local nursery or Walmart for a couple of plants and spending an hour working in each other's garden together. That way individuals can get to know each other outside of the quorum, which makes it easier to talk in quorum. 2

bluebell Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Our Elder's quorum has monthly meetings (kind of like the meetings that RS has) where they have a chance to mingle and get to know each other while doing some other activity. They jokingly call them 'manification' nights. The men choose the activity (usually it's learning a skill but they've had ice cream socials too). 3

When I served as an EQ president in America, our area president reminded us that meetings are not the work of the Church; instead, meetings exist to teach us, train us and inspire us for the actual work of the Church, which nearly always happens outside of meetings. 6
strappinglad Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Back in the olden days ( shortly after the Flood ) , my Elder's Q would cater ward suppers a couple of times a year as a fundraiser. Lots of good times rubbing shoulders ( not literally, come on now ! ) As Hamba says, find ways to serve together and not just in the Elders Moving Company .
The Nehor Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 (edited) I am usually in the clerk's office in 3rd hour. Every week our Elder's Quorum Presidency sends out a scriptural quiz question. I respond with a long, incredibly thorough, and hopefully humorous response so they remember I exist. Has worked so far. Every time they need something they thank me for the laugh. We just had two apostles visit us for training purposes. I wasn't invited to the meeting, but I've heard reports from two members of our stake presidency and my EQ president, and they all said the same thing: the advice was not to overthink or overcomplicate everything but just to do what works. As someone who identifies as a pragmatist, I like this advice! 2

We do progressive dinners...usually about four homes.

Ward bulletin or maybe put on website or send out a weekly email (my ward and my mother's ward does it for RS with birthdays and summaries of lesson/discussion, pre and post) with a short bio of enough people so they are done once a year...maybe around their birthday. 1

And I suspect you have two qualified sources of information when it comes to your quorum: (1) the members and (2) the Lord. I've already told you what I need: to serve alongside my fellow elders. I'm not big on fluffy stuff either. the one suggestion I had for our quorum was that we learn Spanish since we are the Spanish speaking magnet ward for the stake. It just see me appropriate that we be bilingual so we can minister to all members. not sure if anyone agreed with my suggestion 2

Replace all the scouting callings with the Possum Lodge and the Man's prayer: "I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess." That oughta do it. 1
