Garden Girl Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 My vice... tends toward salt, i.e., chips etc. But I also favor chocolate... a good quality vanilla ice cream (Tillamook), topped with Hershey's chocolate syrup and sprinkled with lots of Planter's Spanish peanuts... (I also love ice cream in general). GG 1

My great grandmother turned me on to dipping crinkly potato chips into cottage cheese. This is my ultimate comfort food. If I get a bag of Wavy Lays and a pound of cottage cheese, I may eat the entire tub of cottage cheese in one sitting. It is ambrosia to me. And salt-and-vinegar potato chips, naturally without cottage cheese. And my favorite video game is World of Warships. I can play it for hours. Although I usually play it in spurts while trying to get something else done. And this will probably be my last post for a while, because in 10 hours I will be picking up my wife from the airport, and we'll be driving down to Oregon for the Solar Eclipse. And in a week we'll be on a 7-day Alaska cruise! Yay! This sounds good..hey...I'll try it!!

But keeping my blood sugar under control, as I have been for the last six months, I can prevent it from getting worse. Oh so I hope that my doctors are right about it. I just realized that not only was my condition slowly killing me, but it is unfair to my wife, my children and my grandchildren. As my wife needs a husband, my children still need a father, and my grandchildren need a Papa. As something defies all logic, they all love me. So many thanks to your relative. well, I sincerely hope things improve, you're needed by so many!!! it's interesting in our family diabetes was the main cause of death and then Banting came out with Insulin and then no one had it anymore, it was heart attacks and old age....! 2

Is medical marijuana legal in your state? Maybe try some cannabis oil? I'm on a FB private group of people that have used cannabis oil for so many ailments, I wonder if it would help. It's supposed to help people with neuropathy. Maybe even marijuana brownies? My friend suffers with your symptoms such as burning feet, pins and needles etc. She's TBM and she said she would try it.
Calm Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 (edited) As soon as it is legal and our doctors clear it for us, me and my daughter will be trying it. My mom too if I can talk her into it. Nonloopy for me (for rls) and mom (for arthritis and scoliosis), loopy might be nice for daughter if it helps the depression nor anxiety. She has never gotten loopy on anything though...not even Amb ien, the only thing beside morphine after surgery that used to give me a nice little hallucination of rainbow dancing letters... I will have to skip the brownies, chocolate has now moved into the forbidden category of rls triggers. Edited August 20, 2017 by Calm

I recently become a volunteer at a hospital and went to an orientation and met another volunteer. After the orientation we had lunch with other new volunteers. As we were eating, somehow we got on the subject of cannibus oil. This gentlemen said his wife suffered migraines and they decided to drive to New Mexico and buy it. He said they were really worried about bringing it to Utah and hid it under the car mat etc. They were nervous they could get pulled over. Well they made it fine back to Utah and his wife said it didn't really work. She goes to a doctor that treats many of the LDS church leaders, maybe even the general presidency. And this doctor told her the best way to treat migraines is to smoke it! Well this volunteer's wife said she couldn't do that. But who knows maybe she'll try it. There is vaping marijuana too. It's an oil. But I don't know if it would have the same affect. Oh well, but thought it so funny this doctor telling her the best way to use marijuana to treat her migranes. Just thought I'd share. I will have my second set of Alzheimer's testing in a few weeks that entails me staying at the clinic for several hours doing various things. And this will cost me probably over a thousand dollars since we haven't met our deductable. But I am at a point of needing to know now, vs. later. I'm being proactive so I can get my life in order and live some things now vs. waiting till we retire or such.

As far as the foot pain, I am not taking something that works very well.

Note: DO NOT share anything that would require you to, if you were LDS, to have to speak to your Bishop and do not share anything criminal. This is intended to be fun and not major catharsis. Feel free to poke fun at others but do not harangue them. This is a semi-safe space. Well, since this is a semi-safe space, I’m going to rely on the anonymity of the internet and confess something I have only shared with my wife… I don’t think Brian Regan is that funny. Yeah, I said it.

bsjkki Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) I bought eclipse glasses on a Sunday from a private seller at a 7-11 parking lot. It felt like a drug deal...maybe...I've never done that before . Diet Coke is my sin of choice. I'm totally addicted and get terrible headaches if I go one day without a soda. I always have to have a stash and brought my personal, private cooler of diet coke to girls camp and would drink it secretly in my tent. Girls camp is no place to kick an addiction. The Nehor Posted August 21, 2017 Author Posted August 21, 2017 More thoughts. My big vice is probably laziness. Not lie around all day laziness. More a push the unpleasant garbage out of the way so I can do something enjoyable instead laziness. My house is clean and my work is done but I procrastinate as much as I can. I used to be worried it was a sin but when I prayed about it God pointed out that he always covered for my laziness through school, college, and work and it may just be a cross to bear. I probably work half as hard as others at work and get 50% more done so cannot complain. My obsession with entertaining myself can make me annoyed at those who refuse to enjoy themselves. Too many people have based their lives around being busy or miserable. Sure, they claim they want to enjoy themselves but every time they can do so they make up some onerous duty or obligation that could wait and put it off. I also do a lot of documentation at work and to keep myself sane I so,etimes work private jokes into the text. Acrostics, first letter of every other word spell something, that kind of thing. One of my heroes is a programmer who documented his code entirely with insulting statements. No one has caught on to me yet that I know of.

I so relate, my choice use to be diet coke, now it's diet dr. pepper. I have to sneak too. I would have to do this on trips with my in-laws. They would frown upon it. I'd keep it in my room and take a mug that has a colored straw so as to not show it was dark instead of just water. And I'd have to sneak to get ice in my cup and back to my bedroom and pour my addiction. I now wonder if I'm addicted to the nutri-sweet because I tried regular soda to avoid it and had withdrawals. I can't quit, luckily it doesn't impair our mental state too much.
MorningStar Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I wasn't in the mood for dinner, so I'm snacking on a bag of shredded cheese. And some of it is now in my hair.

Incidentally, that reminds me of when my mom's doctor asked her to confess her vices to him, and she mentioned Coke, and he said, "Uhhh, the drink, right?" Anyway, I still drink the occasional Coke or Pepsi, but only if Diet Mountain Dew isn't available. 1
Calm Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 For those of you using Diet to cut calories as opposed to preferring the taste, you may want to rethink that... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2017/07/18/diet-drinks-are-associated-with-weight-gain-new-research-suggests/?utm_term=.055810b04aae "The study found that not only were artificial sweeteners dodgy when it came to weight management, but people who drank them routinely had an increased body mass index and risk of developing cardiovascular disease.... “We need more evidence from better quality studies to know for sure the cause and effect, but there does seem to be at least a question about the daily consumption of these drinks,” she said. Until those studies are done, Azad stressed that people should take these early results with a grain of aspartame. For example, most of the studies aggregated in her research focused on people who were actively trying to lose weight or who had other medical conditions, such as high blood pressure. Still, across the studies they evaluated: “Nonnutritive sweeteners (are) significantly associated with modest long-term increases” in body weight, BMI and waist circumference, the researchers concluded. Belly fat, or visceral fat, has been linked to a greater chance of cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, as The Post's Lenny Bernstein wrote. High waist circumference is also one component of metabolic syndrome, a constellation of health risk factors that also includes high triglycerides, blood pressure and blood glucose."
