I believe that those that aren't sealed in the temple, can live good lives in heaven, maybe even becoming angels and helping those on the other side.

Yes, I too know some temple marriages that aren't that great... but I think that has to do with the people involved, not the underlying concept and doctrine. For instance, is the husband or wife disrespectful, overbearing, ill tempered, selfish, etc... Or, are they trying to live the gospel principles with love, patience, kindness, and respect for their mate, working together to resolve the issues that can and do come up. How they handle these issues determines the type of marriage rather than where they got married. This is true for non-temple marriages also. GG Edited February 3, 2016 by Garden Girl

There's a difference between believing you have something and actually having it. And those who have covenanted with God in a temple should never take those covenants lightly, or work to convince those who haven't made them yet that they are unimportant. Lastly, no one does more good than God and Christ. I'm not sure where the idea comes from that wanting to be a ministering angel, with the limitations such implies, is more noble than desiring to become joint heirs with Christ in gaining all that the Father desires to give. No one who wants to "help others" should desire less than exaltation. Unless that person believes that God and Christ have a more selfish existence than ministering angels do. (Which is an idea of Satan if one has ever existed). Edited February 3, 2016 by bluebell 5

Too often people talk or write about being a god and getting to do whatever you want and having a planet and making the seas pink or whatever. When in reality, being like God and Christ means a life dedicated to serving others. The greatest in the kingdom is the servant of them all. 3

The Bible states that we will be ministering angels. It only states we can become like God, not BE Gods.

Those that aren't sealed CAN live good lives in heaven as angels. But they will not be married couples. Only God can join people for eternity, not a local magistrate. 1 minute ago, Tacenda said: Satan is the one that insists that Adam and Eve can be Gods, I tend to not believe Satan all the time. Satan says we can become like the Gods knowing good from evil, and God agrees that that is what man became. (Genesis 3). As for becoming Gods, if God gives Christ EVERYTHING he has, and Christ gives us EVERYTHING he receives from the father, exactly what aspect of Godhood are we lacking? And that is in the Bible. 2

I continue to be absolutely baffled by the false evangelical tradition creeping among some members of the Church that God is a different kind of being than we are. That he (and Christ) are exceptions to the rules, laws, and requirements that we are to follow. It's just not correct. God was once a mortal man on an earth (maybe a Christ, maybe not). He progressed and was resurrected and received his Godhood. We will do the same. He is our literal Father, not merely a supernatural creator. We are the same species. We are not pets created by a higher power for no purpose that to glorify that power. We are the propagation of his species. Edited February 3, 2016 by JLHPROF 1

The Bible states that we will be ministering angels. It only states we can become like God, not BE Gods. God confirms it. SEE Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Jesus says we will be as he and God are. SEE John 17: 20-23 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 3
Tacenda Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Well...maybe you are all right. Even some non LDS churches or beliefs are wondering about it. I am getting my view gleaned from EV thoughts. I do like that LDS believe in progression, and that just as we would like our children to do, He wants that for us. But there is a lot of soul searching I still need to do on this premise. Or scripture/prayer searching.

Jesus says 'ye are gods' and we learn that we will inherit all that god has. I do not know of a reference in the bible where it says we will be ministering angels. There is a passage that says there is no marriage in the resurrection and that those in this condition will be 'as the angels' which suggests we will not even be angels, let a lone ministering angels. Garden Girl Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I agree that there is a difference between "thinking" you have something and actually having it... but we absolutely should not make non-temple marriages seem unimportant... something we LDS can unintentionally do if not careful. GG 3

I'm just not sure why or how it's creeping in. To my mind President Uchtdorf's last conference talk came across the same way - evangelical tradition creeping in. I don't think that's what he meant and I'm not saying he said anything wrong, or disagreeing with anything he said. I think he understands our relationship with God. But those members who are falling into this wrong path were sure quick to pounce on that talk and use it to justify their "traditional Christian" ideas. To me that idea is one of the latest tools of the adversary to lead people astray. It's why we've seen such an increase in nondenominational groups as well.

GG Marriage is important, just as where, and by whom we are married is important. A quickie drive thru wedding at a Drive Thru Wedding "Chapel" is important to those involved. God not as much.
