juliann Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 The church has released a new statement against end-of-the-world speculation. Rowe is not mentioned by name, but she is discussed a little bit. https://kutv.com/news/local/lds-church-pushes-back-against-speculation-of-imminent-apocalypse "Do not reflect church doctrine" is pretty strong. This covers more than Rowe. Visions of Glory is the same type thing. 1

"The book is now on a list of "spurious materials" the church warns its seminary and institute instructors to avoid." I've never read anything by Rowe, but would be interested to know what else is on that list.
bluebell Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Interesting."The book is now on a list of "spurious materials" the church warns its seminary and institute instructors to avoid."I've never read anything by Rowe, but would be interested to know what else is on that list.I think there's a link at the beginning of this thread that lets you see it. Her's is the only book. Everything else is rumors and the like (things attributed to apostles and prophets that were never said, for example) that the church doesn't want teachers to pass on.
Gillebre Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't one major difference between Visions of Glory and Rowe's book be that Rowe has taken steps to be very public and attention seeking? Perhaps moreso before the Church listed her book as spurious (looked that word up..it means fake or false. interesting) internally. I don't recall Visions of Glory being cited in news articles, or it's author (or the person whose account it relates) being named by the Church as a topic to avoid on account of it being fake. Then again Rowe's book has gotten so much more attention than Visions of Glory. Do you consider it improper to give one book more credence than the other because the author hasn't made a big public hoopla about their personal spiritual experiences?
mirkwood Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Nope. They are both spurious and full of false doctrine. I think that JR has gotten attention because she went out on the lecture circuit.
Calm Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Pontius was doing the circuit iirc till he got too sick. After his death, his wife appears to have focused on his own material and not the anonymous "Spencer". "Spencer" did at least one appearance with Pontius, but for whatever reason is quiet now. Pontius was having to remind "Spencer" of stuff that was written so perhaps "Spencer" was reluctant to try it without Pontius as his wingman, plus "Spencer" has a decent fulltime job that likely provides him with more than enough money.
Tacenda Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The passage above is one of several verses we read out of Acts as a primary class. When we read the part about the moon being like blood I thought of tonight's moon! Hopefully you all watch it and don't forget or watch TV or something!
Calm Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 A blood moon is simply a total lunar eclispe...happens about every two years iirc. 1
Tacenda Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) A blood moon is simply a total lunar eclispe...happens about every two years iirc.Oh, I think this is a bit different according to the news I listened to. They say it won't happen again until the year 2033. I guess it's a Supermoon! Found this article: http://www.india.com/whatever/supermoon-total-lunar-eclipse-2015-how-what-time-to-watch-rare-red-blood-moon-eclipse-on-september-27-28-581323/ "According to the NASA, what is uncommon is for a total lunar eclipse to coincide with a Supermoon. There have been just five such events since 1900 (in 1910, 1928, 1946, 1964 and 1982). The event will not be repeated until 2033" Edited September 27, 2015 by Tacenda
juliann Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Blood moons are not unusual...and they don't last long. A biblical blood moon would probably be the result of disaster not the cause of it. Your source also has pictures of a fallen angel, aliens, and frog faced people. You might want a more credible source.....

jkwilliams Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 So the end has come 5 times in the last century...still not impressed. And it will come again, as long as there is money to be made. 1
Tacenda Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 So the end has come 5 times in the last century...still not impressed. It's so confusing, our written words vs. talking face to face. I wasn't insinuating it's the end. Just unusual or a once every few years occurrence. Besides my husband mentioned it has to be a blood moon and three days of darkness, he's just heard that somewhere.
Tacenda Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Julie Rowe is mentioned on the Today show...http://www.today.com/video/the-end-of-the-world-really-again-533182019831

The Nehor Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 But does Spencer really exist? Depends. Are self-righteous figments of ones imagination real?
The Nehor Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 So the end has come 5 times in the last century...still not impressed. But this guy....this guy might know what he is talking about.
Calm Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 But does Spencer really exist?Yes, and those willing to work a bit can find his identity if they feel the need. The book (supposedly) is Spencer's not Pontius's. Pontius "ghost wrote" the book for Spencer.Pontius' name is on the spine, the front has "as told to John Pontius" and on the inside it has him listed as author with a dedication note to Spencer. Have you read it? or listen to the taped gathering they had where Pontius knew the book and what happened better than Spencer and instead had to prompt his partner to remember so I think it was more than just a bit of ghost writing. I would say it was a collaboration between the two.
Calm Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 But this guy....this guy might know what he is talking about. I enjoyed it much more than I did last time. The sky here in Utah is much cleaner than in San Fran and we could see it from our seats on our front porch rather than having to peer up through the palm trees last time I saw it. Darker too which made it much more impressive.

Calm Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It is more rust red than blood, looked the same last time,
HappyJackWagon Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Congratulations to everyone who survived the apocalypse. I'm proud of you. Yesterday, from the pulpit the bishop made a statement that the moon was NOT signalling the beginning of the apocalypse yesterday. There were some uncomfortable Julie Rowe'ers in the congregation. 2

There were some uncomfortable Julie Rowe'ers in the congregation. There was also this in the Deseret News:http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765680470/Blood-Moon-seen-as-sign-of-end-times-by-some-Mormons.html Which included this statement from church leaders:http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/church-responds-to-inquiries-about-preparedness
HappyJackWagon Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It's interesting to see some of these people start to lash out and get angry because the apocalypse isn't materializing. Postponing the apocalypse sounds like a good thing to me but I think they recognize their personal credibility is flushing down the toilet. Then there are others who are doubling down. It's still coming. I know way too many Julie Rowe supporters. In my ultra-orthodox ward I have another larger group which discounts Julie Rowe yet still preaches that the end is nigh so we'd better get ready FAST. People are really taking the Latter Day Saints very seriously right now in my neck of the woods.
