BookofMormonLuvr Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I find it very interesting that they did not declare Julie's experiences (which I know little about) as false. They used much more harsh and definitive wording in the other entries:https://si.lds.org/bc/seminary/content/binary-content/binary-content/news-tim-gurr/publication_caution---a_greater_tomorrow_my_journey_beyond_the_veil_04-statements-in-circulation3831.pdf
Duncan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I wonder if this memo is being circulated to adults as they, more so than teenagers, would be taken in by such things 1
Calm Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) I am not surprised they were even toned given there is an actual person involved that it is focused on instead of just a claim being circulated by innocents.Even the treatment of apostates is mild in language. It is being circulated to teachers along with a talk on how to teach appropriately so as to avoid spreading it to their students. A teacher sharing these mormon myths is going to make it more credible for most as opposed to stumbling across it on the internet. Edited September 13, 2015 by Calm 2
Duncan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I am wondering where Julie Rowe lives as you'd think if some calamity is supposed to hit Utah she'd be the first to split
Ushuaia Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I am wondering where Julie Rowe lives as you'd think if some calamity is supposed to hit Utah she'd be the first to splitShe lives in the Kansas City area. 1
Duncan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 She lives in the Kansas City area. so her 25 bucks is well spent! well, even Dorothy got out of Kansas and got thrown back so you can't be too sure with these things

Julie Rowe isn't an urban legend. She really does claim to have had these experiences and to have special insight into end-times events, their details, timeframes, etc. However, the Church is clearly waving a yellow flag (in my own view, a red flag) that her book(s) and the experiences she shares (in her radio interviews and fireside) are her own matters and that may, however unintentionally on her part, distort Church doctrine. My advice is to stay far, far away from the prepper movement. 2
strappinglad Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I've said it before and I'll say it again. When hard times hit, the man with a room full of toilet paper will be KING. ( no throne jokes please ) 2

Avatar4321 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Rowe.Is.Nuts.I know very little about her. I also have no intention of looking to her rather than the brethren. But what makes her nuts?
cinepro Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) FWIW, Mormon Stories did an episode about her, and posted this update following the podcast: Important Update (9/9/2015): Three things about Julie Rowe that I’ve learned over the past 24 hours: 1) The LDS church has issued the following warning against Julie Rowe: “Although Sister Rowe is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her book is not endorsed by the Church and should not be recommended to students or used as a resource in teaching them. The experiences she shares are her own personal experiences and do not necessarily reflect Church doctrine or they may distort Church doctrine.” 2) From what I understand, Deseret Book is no longer carrying her books (if they ever did): 3) I’ve had a few people very close to her (i.e., close family and/or friends) reach out to me over the past 24 hours to confirm that they are very worried about her, that they are very frightened/saddened by what is happening, and that (without revealing details) her health history and her particular situation is one that (if fully known) should elicit sympathy/support/love/empathy and not ridicule/judgment (with total acknowledgement that many people are possibly in harm’s way because of her teachings). Anyway…I just felt like I needed to share this. I think we all have cause to be alarmed/concerned…but based on the information I have….we should look to Julie with empathy and not mocking or judgment. Let’s hope for a “miracle” that this ends peacefully/happily. http://mormonstories.org/julie-rowe-preppers/ Edited September 13, 2015 by cinepro

Teancum Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 What is it about Mormonism that fosters so many lunatic fringers?
Popular Post cinepro Posted September 13, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2015 What is it about Mormonism that fosters so many lunatic fringers? I don't know that you could say that Mormonism has more lunatic fringers than Christianity in general. And I've heard rumors that Islam may have a problem with "lunatic fringers" as well, but I don't read up on current events so I couldn't say for sure. 7
Jeanne Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 She should quit while she is behind. i bought one of her books.. Could not finish. It was just a history lesson of what a lot of us already knew. Don't really know about her speculations but I find her so unbelievable. 1
ttribe Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 What is it about Mormonism that fosters so many lunatic fringers? Truthfully, they are probably more prominent in your mind given your affiliation with Mormonism. Every faith movement has its lunatic fringe; some more dangerous than others.
Duncan Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Wasn't today the 13th supposed to be some earthquake in Utah or am I wrong about the date?
bluebell Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I think it's supposed to be coming on Tuesday.

Buckeye Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Wasn't today the 13th supposed to be some earthquake in Utah or am I wrong about the date? I heard reports that there was a rather substantial tremor in Utah in the very early hours of September 13th. It was centered in Lavell Edwards Stadium I believe. 4
