JLHPROF Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 “Elder Perry has asked that we share his thanks for the prayers and kindness extended to him by Church members and friends. Despite earlier treatments, cancer has spread aggressively to his lungs and beyond. Elder Perry is at home. He will no longer attend meetings, though he is still receiving visits from members of the Quorum of the Twelve, the First Presidency, and close family. He will begin receiving hospice care in the coming days.” 2
Popular Post bluebell Posted May 29, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2015 This makes me so sad. I love Elder Perry and I'm not ready to not see or hear from him anymore. Prayers for his family. 6

Buckeye Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) Source for the OP: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=1284&sid=34844422 I'm quite sure he doesn't read this board, but I also wish him and his family the best. Only apostle I've ever spoken with. Despite being the oldest in the Q12, he has always struck me as being among the most physically energetic and active. Sad to see him limited. Oh, and he served his mission in Ohio (and surrounding states). rockpond Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Very sad news. I hope he can enjoy his final days in mortality with his loved ones and as little pain as possible. I will miss him.
canard78 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 He's a wise and positive influence on the church. A real sad news day. Sorry to hear it has moved so aggressively.
Scott Lloyd Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 He has been courageous in the face of adversity. At the time of his call as a General Authority (Assistant to the Council of the Twelve, a position that no longer exists) his wife had already been diagnosed with cancer with an estimate of only a few months to live. She survived for a few years thereafter and provided great support to him in his new calling. He remarried after her passing. He has also suffered the death of a daughter.
JLHPROF Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) He remarried after her passing. Deleted for bad taste...perhaps BOMLuvr and Scott would be kind and delete the quote... Edited May 29, 2015 by JLHPROF 1

Popular Post Damien the Leper Posted May 29, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2015 While sad, I am joyful that he gets to go home. I'm jealous to an extent. I believe he did what he came here to do and I am grateful to God that He shared Elder Perry with us. 5
Damien the Leper Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 At long last, I would hope they would have the decency to refrain. It would have been decent not to have mentioned it at all. Very inappropriate. 1
JLHPROF Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 It would have been decent not to have mentioned it at all. Very inappropriate. My apologies. Just a juvenile joke. I'd delete it if it hadn't been quoted already. 2
Damien the Leper Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I apologize for it seeming like I meant to chastise. Re-reading my post, it came off inappropriately.
cinepro Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I was interested to learn about Elder Perry's participation in the LDS efforts at the 1964 World's Fair in New York (which commemorated it's 50th anniversary last year). He was a High Councilor in the area at the time. https://www.lds.org/church/news/elder-perry-mormon-pavilion-at-1964-worlds-fair-had-impact?lang=eng 1
Thinking Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Elder Perry spoke at our stake conference when I was a teenager. I always liked him.

Duncan Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 He spoke at the MTC when I was there. Elder Wirthlin came to our stake conference when I was 12 but I remember nothing really. All I recall about Elder Perry is when he came into the room it was like a bomb went off, the energy was unbelievable and you just felt you were in the presence of someone really holy and it was amazing. 1
carbon dioxide Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 While sad, I am joyful that he gets to go home. I'm jealous to an extent. May we all arrive home as well as he will. 3
Gohan Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Never going to forgot when he came and visited my mission a few years ago. An incredibly kind man, I'll dearly miss hearing from him at Conference.
carbon dioxide Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I have decided that once I hit age 80, that is it for me. If I get cancer or whatever, I am not going to treat it. Just give me some pain meds to let me go quickly. No need to spend a little extra time on earth feeling like crap from chemo. 2
Robert F. Smith Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) I recall seeing him near the BYU stadium a few years ago, walking to a game. He is very tall and he was easy to see in a crowd, with his hearty smile, waving to friends. A very active man with a positive attitude. Edited May 30, 2015 by Robert F. Smith
