Dissenters Trying To Oppose Sustaining At Conference

Hmm. The commenters at the above link are loosely tying this group to Jeriilyn Hassel Pool, who is affiliated with the Ordain Women group. She is also part of FMH ("Feminist Mormon Housewives") and the "Rational Faith" blog.

Some of the comments about her are fairly venomous, which is unfortunate, unproductive, and unbecoming.

Thanks,

Maybe I missed, but Peterson did not provide a source to the comments.  And a google search of the direct quotes, ONLY show his patheos blog as the source.   Is there a website or FB page from which Peterson got the quotes?

nevermind, after search for several other direct quotes, I discovered the source site is anyopposed .org

I am sure all the Baptists, Catholics, Presbyterians, and a few others in the world would dissent also, they just don't take the time to show up to say so.  ;)

Dissenters are important. Without them the scriptures would be really, really, really boring.

From the blog:

To their credit, the organizers of this protest add that “Participants are to be aware that that this is a peaceful vote and not a disruption of General Conference. Participants are encouraged to dress and behave respectfully due to the sacredness and decorum of the Conference setting. Any indication of violent or malicious intent will be reported to law enforcement authorities.”

Dan makes a mistake in the above post. Those who wish to organize this protest are doing so for media attention. They would love a protest that gets noticed. However, they need to cloak their actions with above 'mormonisms'. However, they do not want a violent protest but they do want a well organized protest and I don't think that they care how the protestors are dressed but they would most llkely get in dressed in mormon stereotypes. Two thousand people raising their hand by not sustaining the leadership is not behaving respectively nor are these people who are requested to request tickets to protest doing so by declaring their intent to the stake leaders etc.

Scriptures are not about entertainment.  If you find them boring, don't read them.  You are getting nothing out of them. :)

I don't find the scriptures boring because of the dissenters. They're like the bad guys, while the prophets are the good guys. If there were no bad guys, the narrative would be too one dimensional.

I try to kick the good guy/bad guy worldview out of my head when reading the scriptures. When I do it is too easy to seem myself on the "good" side and miss the messsage of the scriptures entirely. The prophets do not consider themselves wonderfully good people and I refuse to believe that that is some kind of self-flagellating lie that God winks at. I think they see more clearly what good is.

These people are a bunch of lame-O's, they lost the element of surprise! The key to disobedience is don't volunteer any information! They should have said nothing and just do it!! Now, people are going to be suspicious and this and that and don't these people read GI JOE comic books anymore?

Actually, I think that you misunderstood. They are getting just what they wanted: free air time and dan has helped their cause indirectly. It goes like this: develop an idea, make it known to a select group, get people to comment on it through social media, get as many people speaking about it as possible. And hope that the idea works in April and if not april then in October. The point is to keep discension in the social domain to show 'weaker' members that dissent is an alternative and to show disgruntled members that they are not alone. .

Regardless. It's the dynamic of opposition in all things that makes anything interesting, including the scriptures and life in general, So, of all the "bad guys" in the scriptures, which one do you most identify with?

There was that guy in the white suit who tried to charge the pulpit in the 1970s.   Marchant?   And then, several "NO ERA NO" chants during the votes.

That reminds me of reading of Brigham Young's efforts to remove one of the MMM participants, William Dame, a stake president.  His stake wouldn't sustain his removal so Brigham Young left Dame for another 10 years, but only after Pres. Young gave the stake a tongue-lashing.

The name of the website is anyopposed. I was hesitant to mention or provide a link because I don't want to provide these websites with any more foot traffic than what they already get but someone on this thread already mentioned it.

I remember that, and it was in the tabernacle no less - a much cozier venue than the current mega hall. If it is real, nothing will come of it.

It's not all that easy to even get into conference.   Maybe they will forge tickets?

What's a "bling?"

Apparently it's what the autocorrect thinks a blog is

I have lots of bling on my blog.  Check it out: https://greatgourdini.wordpress.com/.

(Sorry.:unknw:  Couldn't resist.  We now return you to your regularly-scheduled, on-topic programming following this shameless bit of self-promotion. ;))

One of the guys at the infants on thrones podcasts did a minisode on the ERA era ( :) ) dissenting votes. It was interesting. I read some comments insinuating that he was behind the effort.

I daresay most of them don't care enough to be regarded as dissenters.

I see what bobbieaware is saying. Scriptures teach by means of stories (consider Mormon's frequent use of "and thus we see that ...") and any good story has conflict.
