I read recently that various people are going through for the dead for the same person over and over because of a major flaw in the system or there isn't enough names submitted, thereby the need to keep the members busy while there, this may just be someone's opinion. Haven't we come far enough technologically that this shouldn't happen? So to me, thinking that people might die and find out it was unnecessary and they could have spent that precious time on the living, would be quite unsettling.

Good genealogists don't do that. 1

If its being untrue = God isn't real, then how would I even know once I was dead? If its being untrue = something else is more true, then I would embrace the greater truth since a central part of my faith as a Latter-day Saint is to embrace whatever is best and most true ... and I would do so happy and grateful for all the beautiful, joyful, transcendent things that I've already enjoyed here due to my faith and the attendant covenants and 'sacrifices'. As I've repeatedly told my Church leaders, if the blessings of the restored gospel in this life were all we had any hope for, it would be enough. As it is, I often feel limited in my capacity to contain all of the blessings, miracles, and goodness that God seems determined to pour out on me. Edited September 4, 2014 by Hamba Tuhan 1

That you believe in your fathers and/or believe in the two young men or women who may have come to your door. This question is for you. Those of you have sacrificed those Temple promises with tithe, talents and sincere dedication; what would you do if when you passed away, so much of this was untrue? I am not being a stinker here..I would really like to know if you can think outside that box and grasp the sometimes hurt that is felt for others here on earth who feel so disllusioned. Glenn101 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I, for one, confess that I cannot think outside that box. to me, it is unfathomable that Jesus is not the Christ and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is not His church. I have actually, in times past, tried to follow that train of thought, but I just cannot do it. I guess that I will just have to wait and see. we all will. In the mean time, I am not going to worry my gray matter greatly over it. The more I worry that gray matter, the more it shows up in my hair. Now I am losing my mind and my hair, or maybe along with my hair. Glenn

I'm not saying no one should ever do those things, but if the temple were to somehow not be true then I don't see how someone would regret "not living more fully" and not feel that way with those things as well.

Like him (I believe), I also reject Pascal's Wager. Nevertheless, whatever the truthfulness or not truthfulness of the Gospel, living it has proven time and time again in just about every sociological measure to contribute to the well-being of the individual and society as a whole.

My MIL just had knee surgery, she's pretty old. And her daughter who is a temple worker and lives a couple of hours away couldn't be there to help. So situations like that in particular. Thanks, Jeanne If there there is a God then I don't believe he would mistreat me based solely on some faulty belief about him, as long as I treat my fellow man(woman) with respect and dignity. If there is no God I've lived the life I've wanted to by treating with respect and dignity my fellow man(woman), and there will be none of us who will know any differently anyway.

I know my parents, when they worked in the temple would have been able to get the time off and would have been encouraged to do so. In the temple where they worked was some kind of board where people could ask fir others to work their shifts or trade. It was easily done all the time. But that was in one of the large Utah temples. In smaller temples or in those outside of Utah it may not be so easy to trade.

Even though it will send you to hell without redemption?

Are you sure your MIL did not tell her daughter she didn't need her assuming that you would be there for her? I know that when I have had hospital tests and surgeries I am reluctant to have my kids drive two or three hours to sit in a hospital waiting room. Perhaps I am more spiritual than I realize and have already learned so much from all of you..whether of great faith in the church or floundering and struggling. If it was me, i probably would have stopped a long time ago the second things got tough. But I know the Church is what it claims to be because the Lord told me. I know it and God knows it. And while I may be far from perfect, I know if I would deny that I would be under great condemnation. There is no point in speculating "What if" when the Holy Spirit speaks because God doesn't lie.
