I know that so many of you have great faith.  That you believe in your fathers and/or believe in the two young men or women who may have come to your door. 

 

This question is for you.  Those of you have sacrificed those Temple promises with tithe, talents and sincere dedication; what would you do if when you passed away, so much of this was untrue?  I am not being a stinker here..I would really like to know if you can think outside that box and grasp the sometimes hurt that is felt for others here on earth who feel so disllusioned.

It would take a large change to move from what I see now as a noble cause and a life-improving gospel to something that is so bad that I am actually hurt and bitter that I pursued it.

I would think back over the blessings I know I have received and say to myself;  self what woould you have changed that would have made your life and the lives of your family any better.  Then I would answer, nothing.

Thank you for your replies.  I was being real honest in how all of you feel about such a possibility.  From what has been said, it is given that many religious and loving people outside the LDS faith would feel this way too about their own religions or interpretations thereof.  I am grateful that I now realize that I need a balance in life...with more spirituality.

I'll play along. If I found out what I know is wrong when I die then I'd feel some relief considering I've sinned a lot and breaking my covenants a lot. If I find out my covenants are a lie then it won't be so bad that I've broken them. In all honesty part of the church scares me into behaving.

If I die and find out what I believe so deeply is not true... I will be sooo disappointed... even heartbroken because I find it so uplifting... beautiful actually.  The Plan of Salvation or Happiness is beautiful to me... logical and merciful...

Just turn it around and ask yourself the same question. Uh, I think it is a question we all get to face ourselves- so don't eliminate yourself.

A God who would send me to hell for eternity would be an unjust God, and if God is unjust we are all scr.... messed up.

I don't think for a second anyone on this planet has it all figured out and knows everything about everything, I think we know the basic contours of stuff but in the next life i'm sure we will be pleasantly surprised, but we need to learn and do all we can here

There's a big difference between having it all figured out and knowing the Restored Church is true.

I am not sure I think outside the box, but it has always been my concept that when we get to the other side each of us will be surprised regardless of religious affiliation.  Though I possess some pretty orthodox LDS views, I also think that I have some very unorthodox viewpoints also.  

 

The temple is symbolic in almost all ways and thus I see great importance in the ordinances themselves, but not in process.  Paying tithing is a no-brainer to me; all that I have comes from God and he requests only ten percent for his own use. 

 

Correct doctrine does not offer salvation to anyone; a living relationship with the Godhead offers salvation.  

 

What if when you got to the other side you learned that everything the Church taught was true?  What if God told you each program of the Church from home teaching to tithing to temple work had great value.  What would be your response?

I would know I lived a good life and that I did my best.  The things I have done with my money, talent and dedication has made me a better person so in the next life there really isn't any need for me to look back and say, "I should have done something different."  Basically I would kind of feel like this:

I am sure you have. If you ever did your homework, you gave up something now to learn something later. Washing your car is a sacrifice- work for a shiny car. Mowed the lawn? Sacrifice. Gone to school? Sacrifice. Planted a plant? etc etc etc.

When you bought a computer you sacrificed money for your computer. You can't get away from the idea of giving something and getting something you want more.

That is reminiscent of the old joke told of an occasion when St. Peter was giving a tour of Heaven to some new arrivals.  It was amazing and beautiful up there.  Then someone asked the inevitable question:  What about Hell?  St. Peter said:  Come over here and look down.  He pointed and looked, seeing a beautiful green valley where Hell should be.  He then exclaimed:  It's those damned Mormons again!!

Provided they have had their work done already, Berti and Chris are probably kicking up their heels in joyful ecstasy and contemplation of the wonderful Gospel Plan of Salvation, a plan which leaves no one mouldering in a grave somewhere.  No one gets left behind.

I wouldn't change a thing (maybe the Word of Wisdom - I'm a bit of a foodie and sometimes feel like I miss out on beer & wine).  But there is not a single spiritual or temporal sacrifice for the gospel that I would regret in any way.  The gospel has been nothing but a comfort and a strength.
