So as I ponder my time as a goddess if I should so happen to make it to such a station in the next life, what do they do all day?  What does Heavenly Mother actually do?  I know this is a rhetorical question because we don't know and I beg to say almost discouraged from pondering her...  buy why should I desire something that I don't even know what it entails?

I watched a clip of the skit, and yes, they said he's a professor of African American studies (or history, can't remember) at Brigham Young University.

One thing I like to think is that they will come to the aid of children that are sexually or physically abused to comfort them, or take them out of the situation, kind of like an out of body experience. 

 

Haven't heard much of what a Heavenly Mother does compared to what I've heard an Angel does.

Well, what exactly do we think Heavenly Father does all day?  I don't think we know much more about His calling than we do about Her's.

 

We assume he answers prayers directly.  Perhaps Heavenly Mother also answers some of our prayers when appropriate.

For instance, no matter how perfect our Heavenly Father is, He is still an exalted man.  He has never and will never experience pregnancy or childbirth for instance.  Why wouldn't our Heavenly Mother be more equipped to provide comfort to an expectant mother?

 

We assume Heavenly Father is directing the course of things on this Earth.  There is no reason to believe our Heavenly Mother isn't doing likewise.

 

And as others have said, take a look at what an earthly mother does all day (as opposed to an earthly father).  Perhaps there will be come clues there as to the Heavenly counterpart.

So my children are grown (or pretty much there).  Can I choose this as what I get to do in the next life as opposed to when my children were little?

Well for one thing she's a Mother. What can you imagine a Mother doing, and being able to do?

 

No, that's why I asked.  I know what earthly mother's do but I'm not sure it really equates to what celestial mother's do.  I can't picture her doing laundry, homework, cooking dinner, vacuuming, car pooling, working a job, paying bills, mowing the lawn, etc.

My son and I have a little thing going where he likes to make digs at womanhood with those misogynist jokes.  I happen to think they are pretty funny because he knows at our house it is not this way.  He's serving a mission right now but I couldn't resist sending him this when on email day:

 

Funniest thing I've heard all day: "God made men. But sandwiches weren't going to make themselves. So God made women."

Imagine, if you will, the faces of Adam & Even when they're told they will not be in G-d's presence in the Garden now that they took their further development into their own hands.

 

Now imagine their faces when they're informed that the Master will ensure through the sacrifice of His body and the agony of His soul that they will, one day, re-enter that presence.

 

I think that will answer why you ought to desire it.

I agree that we understand little to nothing about celestial existence.  I have no reason to doubt that she is by his side as they assist each other in whatever those tasks are.  I find it rather annoying to assume it is like our earthly existence.

And I've always had a hard time using my imagination.  But since it's been suggested I do then I guess I can imagine it to be whatever I'd want it to be.   

 

I did pose the question to my Sunday School class yesterday about who judges us in the next life.  They had some ideas and I also suggested Heavenly Mother.

Why can't you picture her doing those things. I don't imagine money being necessary in heaven, so I don't imagine there would be any bills to pay (plus she would also own everything just as our Father does), but there will still be food to prepare, and a lawn to mow, and clothes to clean (I'm not going to be running around naked), plus a home to take care of for those of us who will have a place where our family can get together). And we'll still be having children with no more old age or disabilities or health problems to slow us down.

Maybe it would help you to think of what Adam and Eve would have done, or did, when they were freed from the bondage of sin. The whole point of the atonement is to restore us to the condition of Adam and Eve before they fell, when they were without sin, but with the added benefit of our knowledge of good and evil. If I would have been Adam I would have eventually built a house for my wife and all of my kids Heck, lots and lots of houses, without having to sleep outside in a garden forever

So you think we're going to be sending our clothes out to be cleaned rather than cleaning them ourselves in our homes? With faith they'll be cleaned properly, to actually get them cleaned to where the whites are as bright as they should be? And you won't mind at all the cleaners with telestial glory/intelligence will be seeing your undies?

I'm a guy so I wouldn't mind too much but my wife is kinda particular about who she will let see her clothes, so we'll still probably want to clean our clothes, and do our other household duties ourselves. It would be nice to have others to help with our garden chores, though. Unless maybe celestial plants just kinda take care of themselves.
