TruthSeeker24 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Simple question really; as Mormons, we believe in the Kingdom of God. Are we committing treason when we preach these things? As some people know, I'm not mainstream LDS, so maybe this is a dumb question for those individuals lol, but as far as I know, we believe the same doctrines when it comes to the Kingdom of God and it's government, which is NOT the current government. What do you think?
Gillebre Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Yes. Although when Christ comes again to establish His Kingdom, I don't believe that the government of the United States of America will exist.Having stated my belief, you can't commit treason against a government that no longer exists.
TruthSeeker24 Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 So should we not be speaking/teaching about the Kingdom of God now?
Questing Beast Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Sure, why not? Teaching and doing something treasonous about it are two different things. The mainstream Church teaches its members to be loyal (that is law-abiding) citizens to the gov'ts under which they reside....

rpn Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 We can SPEAK about anything in this current United States government. We'd be in trouble only if we tried to throw over our government, which would be quite silly since the Lord is quite capable of doing that to any government that remains at the time.
pogi Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Maybe you should read the articles of faith that mainstream LDS affirm. Not an issue.Exactly! The 12th article of faith states: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying honoring, and sustaining the law.

What do you think? That God commands us to pray for our leaders in Gov't, if we don't pray for them it is the Kingdom of God and our Gov't we betray. Until Christ comes the Kingdom of God is not a governmental body.
Calm Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) You might as well ask what is truth.Which instantly brings to mind: http://www.lds.org/music/library/hymns/oh-say-what-is-truth?lang=eng (The first part of the comments is amusing.) Edited January 19, 2013 by calmoriah 1

Rivers Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 No it is not treason. Jesus told Pilate that His kingdom "not of this world." We are no more guilty of treason than Christ was. 2
volgadon Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 No it is not treason. Jesus told Pilate that His kingdom "not of this world." We are no more guilty of treason than Christ was.Shh! You are giving it away... 1
Deborah Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 When I read comments on FB about certain political leaders, including my own, this isn't an issue in a free country. Even Pilate began to understand that Christ wasn't talking about the overthrow of the Roman government when he said he was King. Given that this is a largely Christian nation, with many faiths talking about the Kingdom of God it's hardly an issue.
thesometimesaint Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 It is not treason. Treason is advocating or attempting to overthrow the government by force of arms.
halconero Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Who says that existing countries couldn't be incorporated legally and peacefully at the advent of the the Millenial kingdom? 2
thesometimesaint Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Scripture. Jesus will put an end to all nations prior to his second coming.

halconero Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Scripture. Jesus will put an end to all nations prior to his second coming. He will put an end to them, but it doesn't have to be violent. It could very well be a legal surrender.I'm not sure if I believe it itself but one member I know emphatically believes that a constitutional convention will be called by the United States in which they will use the authority given them I turn the government and how it runs over to Christ.I'm not saying this is true, but is an example of how a nation could legally, peacebly surrender rule to Christ. It is supposed to happen on Adam-ondi-ahman. The United States was created under the mandate Adam got. Said mandate will be revoked. Whether Jesus wishes to use preexisting structures is up to Him. I doubt it.
mfbukowski Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 There will probably be no USA by the time the millenium gets here anyway. 1
halconero Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 There will probably be no USA by the time the millenium gets here anyway.I personally believe that the USA will have collapsed and that the Church will have set up a government personally. I'm just making the point that preparing a country for the Kingdom of God isn't treasonous, and that the annexation of said country can be facilitated peaceably and very much within the legal bounds made by the country.

If the US collapses depending on how it does- perhaps in the trials coming before the millenium (but that raises other issues) it would seem natural for like-minded people to get together and form their own governments based on common principles of belief. So those might become seeds of the new order that will eventually be unified. Who knows?Maybe we will pass through a socialistic phase which will collapse as it has say in the Soviet Union, and arguably the direction Europe is headed. When that happens who knows what direction things could go. The reaction to it might lead to a break up of the now Un-united States as it has there, so that each state will really be its own nation, not unlike what happened in Eastern Europe at the breakup of the Soviet Union. Maybe the red states and blue states will go their separate ways. The idea of Texas and California actually being in the same country is pretty remarkable considering that each will progress in opposite directions. It's an interesting time because on one hand we have forces for independence such as the internet making more opportunities for entrepreneurs making it possible for them to work more independently, and yet others are demanding to be taken care of by the government. It will be interesting. Edited January 21, 2013 by mfbukowski
The Nehor Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 If the government collapses I plan to be dead soon anyways.
