Channing Tatum... and Jamie Fox as Pres of the U.S. James Woods (whose son in the movie was recently killed in action) co-starred as head of security, like the Secret Service. The premise of the story could have been fleshed out to become quite a compelling action film, but instead the director went with just non-stop violence... too much, i.e., shooting up the White House, crashing cars, planes, tanks, etc etc etc. Channing Tatum was interviewing for a Secret Ser job, which he did not get, so took his young daughter on a tour of the White House. Of course they were there when the bad guys came to kidnap the Pres... and he ends up having to save him... It was a fairly entertaining movie but could have been better with more story, less violence. The violence was not blood and gore showing, but blowing up, smashing, breaking, lots of shooting.If I had gone to the theatre and paid $7.00 to see it, I'd have been disappointed, but since it's only $1.20 to rent it at the store, no biggie... Plus it had Gerard Butler!!!When I started watching 'White House Down', I thought I was watching 'Olympus Has Fallen', they were so similar! I do have to admit, White House Down had surprises clear to the end. But hated how both movies made the USA's security look lame. Hopefully it's not that bad in real life! This is what I hate about the movies... there's a perfectly good/tender/thoughtful story that could be told of these old codgers (like me... ha!) and they mess it up with language that is totally unnecessary... that's what I appreciated about White House Down... it was PG-13 and without the language except maybe a word or two...How bad was it Tacenda, and for how long... or throughout the movie?There's been a couple movies recently that I've had to turn off because I couldn't take the language... altersteve Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Last Vegas has some language, including very well-timed F-word, and there's a few sexual scenes, including one in which a younger girl clearly wants to have sex with an older married man (nothing ends up happening, but she takes off her dress and you see her naked back from the waist up for a second or two). There's also a scene in which you see a lot of female models in bikinis at a swimming pool, a party scene with a lot of drinking, and some crude references. But it's a very heartfelt movie with some terrific actors. I was surprised at how much of drama it tends to be sometimes. It's definitely funny, but there are several dramatic scenes throughout (especially involving Robert De Niro and Michael Douglas' characters) that drive the film.

Ron Beron Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I forgot to mention that I just finished re-watching The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence with John Wayne, Jimmy Steward and Lee Marvin. What a great film. John Wayne is one of my favorites as well as the rest and wrap this with the artistry of John Ford you can only get a great film.

And you're right about Julie Harris and The Haunting... they did a remake with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones that couldn''t achieve the same level of drama and suspense... bluebell Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I saw After Earth last night and I didn't think it was bad at all. After reading the reviews I was prepared for the worst but I thought the movie was very engaging and thought-provoking, not to mention it was just interesting to see how the post-human earth was going to interact with the main character. I agree about White House Down. The idea was good and there are some funny parts but overall, they did not put enough time into the plot. Blowing things up can only carry a movie for so long.... 1

No, the title is still holding strong. For worst movie that was competently made technically "The Room" wins. For most badly done movie in every respect I recommend "Birdemic: Shock and Terror"

Re: The Haunting...the remake was silly and over the top while the earlier versions was a real psychological thriller using nuance and shadows to set the mood. My worldly daughter even thought it was the best.
