Ron Beron Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Spoiler According to moviepooper, the bad guys had shot him in the back and left him for dead years before....The bad guy here is actually pretty famous. His name is John Russell. He was in a lot of the early cowboy TV shows.
Calm Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) LOL....the movie has been out for almost twenty years! But some people still haven't watched it, like me..... I prefer knowing the end of movies because I like to watch how it all develops...but I recognize that some people prefer the thrill of not knowing the outcome so I tend to be overly cautious about sharing such info. jkwilliams Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 My daughter wanted me to watch Inception with her last night, so I did. All the way through the movie I kept thinking, "This movie thinks it's a lot smarter and more interesting than it really is." 2
EllenMaksoud Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 GRAVITY !!! Yayyy !!! I think the plot is very plausible. The action is really great, um that I watched was astonishing ! I missed part of it because my hands were stuck over my eyes !!!! Now, I just found out it is in 3D !!!! Is it Haram (Forbidden) to go to movies after General Conference? It is clean, no swearing or nudity. Maybe not for children because it is intense !!!! Sandra Bullock does a great job. Her period of undress is entirely within context. It there are any NASA guys here that wish to spoil my fun, please don't.

altersteve Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) It's not forbidden to see movies after General Conference. And Gravity looks great. I can't wait to watch it. There is at least some swearing, though -- I work at a movie theater and watched a few minutes of it, and I heard the F-word once. Edited October 6, 2013 by altersteve
Stargazer Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I finally saw Into Darkness. A really great action film, but with a script filled with deja vu. I love it anyway. While writing this I am listening to the score from the "Bicentennial Man" starring Robin Williams as a robot who as he matures gains a real body and personality with all emotions involved. He ends the movie with his desire to experience death like all sentient beings. A strong film.On that note I have been impressed with Robin Williams' films that deal with human nature, e.g.,A.I. Artificial IntelligenceWhat Dreams May Come I really liked this film.Good Will HuntingBeing HumanThe Fisher KingDead AgainDead Poets Societyand Mork and Mindy no, no...just kidding on that one. I enjoyed Into Darkness a great deal, but afterwards fell into a funk over what I thought were serious plot holes. I don't like plot holes. But after watching it a second time I see where I thought I saw plot holes actually weren't. Everything could be explained nicely. HOWEVER, now that they can transport people from Earth all the way to Kronos, what the heck do they need starships for? If they can bring dead people back to life using Khan's blood, what the heck do they need Dr. McCoy for? Well, maybe Dr. McCoy can administer the serum, but really... And the cold fusion device. WHAT THE HECK?? Please, JJ Abrams, just ... stop it.

And he is not easily pleased. He says that Sandra Bullock's performance is Oscar-quality.

I find it hard just to let the mind go in these films. After all, Star Trek is not fiction, it's REAL!
Calm Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Funny, we were just talking about both movies (ST: ID and Pocah) in my family yesterday and saying the same thing..
Deborah Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 "Gravity" does look like it has amazing cinematography but I honestly can't get excited about someone falling through space for 2 hours even with great acting. If there is something more to it let me know. I like so many TV shows I can't name them all. One of my all time favorites was the new Battlestar Galactica. Talk about great acting and exciting story. Some of my favorites recently have of course been Downton Abbey (totally addicting), Doctor Who, Hell on Wheels (though there depiction of Mormons is totally out there), and the great phonomenon The Walking Dead (soon to be back on). I have very eclectic tastes, but of primary importance are characters I like (or like to hate because they are so conflicted) and good writing and stories. I also like the Masterpiece Mysteries, though sometimes I have to put on the closed captions to understand them. I'm not into sitcoms like I once was, but one I didn't miss was "Everybody Loves Raymond" one of the funniest shows on TV. Among other faves, Covert Affairs, Rizzoli and Isles, Under the Dome, Arrow, Vampire Diaries. I don't like real life shows which is why I go for adventure, suspense or Sci/fi and mystery. It always helps when comedy is part of the drama like Rizzoli or Bones. And I have to admit a new addiction to Duck Dynasty, a truly funny show and the only "reality show" I watch. But I'm into the Business Block on Fox on Saturday Mornings and Squawk Box on CNBC ( during the week.
Calm Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Deborah, if you like Masterpiece Mysteries, KUED 7 IIRC has Death in Paradise which is a lighthearted police procedural.

If you did a bit of research you could discover it yourself. As far as I have heard, bar that one item, the science of the film is quite impeccable. I haven't seen the film yet, but plan to.

He has no patience with plodding plots, and it isn't just 2 hours of Sandra Bullock falling through space.

It was so visually shocking, stunning, amazing !!!!

Hollywood sometimes must adjust reality in order to make things work, otherwise there's no story. Just allow your suspension of disbelief to ease you away from the facts, and it makes it a lot more enjoyable.

The space craft and all that must be computer generated, because I just can not imagine the Russians, Chinese, and NASA driving their spacecraft around to please the cameramen. I do not know much about orbital mechanics, but I think you do not "just drive over to another space" craft 100 miles away. I thought their simulation of zero gravity was fairly good. Lady_Lullaby Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Say what you thought about the film, who's in it, what's about, etc., and try to include the rating and the reason for its rating in your review so that the parents here can be informed about whether or not they should take their kids to go see it. I watched "Upside Down" with Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. It is not a very deep plot. It's about a world where there is double gravity and a boy from 'down there' falls in love with a girl 'up there.' Theme of the show is basically, 'can love be stronger than gravity?' It had a lot of really pretty and cool eye candy. You really have to suspend reality while watching the show. But sometimes when I want to escape and not have to think very much, overly romantic shows hit the spot. They're like cheesecake - - I can't consume them that frequently, but now and then, I indulge.
Lady_Lullaby Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I forgot to mention - it was rated PG13 and I think 13 year olds could watch it, there are several make-out scenes though so you'd have to be prepared for that.

Does going to watch it in 3D even though I now know of swearing, even though I did not hear it make my actions direct disobedience? Indirect disobedience??? Someone give me the answer I want because I want to see it, really !!!
EllenMaksoud Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I had never watched "Breaking Bad" until last night when I watched the big fanale, I kinda went backwards. My kids that have moved out were talking it up, so I had to see what all the hoopla was about. "How I Met Your Mother"? I'll check that out. As long as they don't conflict with "The Voice" or "Dancing With The Stars".Breaking Bad, I have not watched. It "felt" like the story premise was too close to the edge.

Did they finally get together?
