Tacenda Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) I went to "Hunter Games Catching Fire" and it left me hanging at the end, is there a chance of a sequel? Or not? I've never read any of the books. Thanks! Oops, I mean Hunger Games, though it could be Hunter Games! Edited November 23, 2013 by Tacenda

drums12 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Catching Fire Pretty good...especially for a libertarian like myself
Stargazer Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I don't watch many movies. I avoided Hunger Games, and continue to do so. I don't know why. The premise, probably. Sounds freaking silly and needlessly dystopian. I have really gotten tired of dystopias. It's too easy to predict that things will be bad. They can't even come up with plausible dystopias. Maybe I could come up with one. But I doubt it. I want to see Gravity and Ender's Game, but I want to take my wife with me. She doesn't like to go see movies, though. I saw Cowboys and Aliens when it came out and I really liked it. But the whole purpose of those aliens was to come to Earth to get gold? Very stupid premise. You can probably find lots more gold by melting down asteroids, and then you don't have to contend with gravity, at least. I really had to put on the disbelief suspenders for that one. It was a great action film, though. Oddly enough, James Bond makes a plausible cowboy. Don't remember the actor's name. Daniel something? David? Whaever.
altersteve Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) I don't see how the premise of The Hunger Games is any sillier than that of Ender's Game honestly. They're both about kids killing and/or hurting each other. And Cowboys & Aliens is way sillier than The Hunger Games, that's for sure. Edited November 24, 2013 by altersteve
Stargazer Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I don't see how the premise of The Hunger Games is any sillier than that of Ender's Game honestly. They're both about kids killing and/or hurting each other. And Cowboys & Aliens is way sillier than The Hunger Games, that's for sure. Actually, Ender's Game is about an alien race which apparently wants to destroy humanity and the human military is looking for a few good men to stop them -- and/or destroy the aliens before they destroy us. That is standard sci fi. Hunger Games? More or less standard dystopian baloney, with some Bread and Circuses thrown in. I cannot truly compare C&A with HG, having not seen HG. I still think the premise of HG not worth my time. I enjoyed C&A, and that's a fact.
Stargazer Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It's all good, I was joking. So was I, mostly. There isn't a movie out there that isn't worthy of some criticism. Well, except for My Cousin Vinny. 1

Well, except for My Cousin Vinny.I loved My Cousin Vinny! But here's what happened to me... I saw it first on regular TV... so bought the DVD for my film library... upon receipt, excitedly watched it. Whoa!! Where did that language come from?! GG 1

Such a funny movie but when I got the video I couldn't get through it. 2
volgadon Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 How bad grammar spelling/typography leads to a life of crime! The full title is Man of Steal Things.
altersteve Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Just got back from watching Delivery Man. It's funny in parts, but don't go in expecting a comedy; this is a drama film with some surprisingly heavy scenes that I wasn't expecting. It's refreshing to see Vince Vaughn in a quieter, more reflective role instead of the loud, foul-mouthed characters he normally plays in films like Wedding Crashers and The Internship, and Chris Pratt is great, as usual. Pratt's character had to grow on me a little, though (I'm looking forward to seeing him in Guardians of the Galaxy next year, by the way). Overall, not a great movie, but it's a good rental. It's a nice, funny, thought-provoking film that will result in some pretty deep conversations on the ride home. Edited November 26, 2013 by altersteve
Ron Beron Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Finally watched "Man of Steel". Wow. What Christian Bale did for Batman Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder did for Superman. Even my usually reticent wife watched it. Kennedy once asked us to give to our country. Today we are to ask our country for things. "Man of Steel" flies (no pun) in the face of this. Good film.
altersteve Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 Paul Walker, who plays one of the main characters in The Fast and the Furious films, died yesterday in a car crash: http://screenrant.com/paul-walker-obituary/ News of how this will affect the next movie in the series, which is currently in production, and the next few after that, will be interesting to follow. As of right now, I'm heartbroken about this. I was never the biggest fan of those movies, but I very much enjoyed the last two, and his performance was always one of the highlights of those films for me. He was a talented and charismatic actor, and I'm going to miss his presence in future Fast & Furious films. May Heavenly Father bless and comfort his family and friends. 1

Well deserved Oscar Ms. Tomei.
Garden Girl Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I just watched "Mud" starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon... a terrific story... set in Arkansas along the Mississippi River. A multi-faceted story seen through the eyes of two teenage boys... GG
altersteve Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 I saw Catching Fire today, and it was pretty good. It was a bit too long, and I hadn't seen the first film since it came out last year, nor have I read the book (I've only read the first one), so I was a little lost at first. But it was good. The acting is great all across the board, and Jennifer Lawrence in particular is an actress to be reckoned with (House at the End of the Street is the only film she's in that's not worth seeing). Looking forward to the next two installments, and I hope to be finishing the novel series soon.
Tacenda Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I just watched "Mud" starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon... a terrific story... set in Arkansas along the Mississippi River. A multi-faceted story seen through the eyes of two teenage boys... GGThis was a great independent film! I think a lot of people might miss seeing it. Just like another independent film called "The Way, Way Back" with Steve Carell, they kind of get lost in the shuffle. I hope many on here catch both of these, I see them liking them. GG you will like "The Way, Way Back", I can just tell.
altersteve Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 The Way Way Back was good. Steve Carell has one of his best performances in it.
altersteve Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Also, this looks terrific: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkS_d6W7EYA It will very likely have an R rating, though. The director is known for his dark, violent films, and this looks very bleak and depressing. But I can't wait to see it. Edited December 3, 2013 by altersteve

Deborah Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Paul Walker, who plays one of the main characters in The Fast and the Furious films, died yesterday in a car crash: Did you know Paul Walker was raised a Mormon. It's sad these people go to Hollywood and lose the faith.
bluebell Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Did you know Paul Walker was raised a Mormon. It's sad these people go to Hollywood and lose the faith. He did remain religious though, and was extremely charitable. He seems to have left Mormonism behind but he managed to maintain a belief in the importance of true charity, which is very refreshing for someone in Hollywood. 2
Tacenda Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 He did remain religious though, and was extremely charitable. He seems to have left Mormonism behind but he managed to maintain a belief in the importance of true charity, which is very refreshing for someone in Hollywood. He apparently bought a serviceman's wedding ring for his girlfriend, when walking by them in the store, didn't know them just wanted to help. The ring I believe, was $9,000. They interviewed the couple on the news. Super nice guy. May he R.I.P.

But I can't wait to see it.That does look good, but I highly doubt it will be rated R, as they're surely hoping for a large family and Christian audience. PG-13 would fit this, from how it looks.
