Garden Girl Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Which fits Hemsworth.Deb... yeah, the fellow in the goat cart in Ron's post looks like an old man wimp... the Thor that was in my mind's eye was powerful, particularly when using his hammer... in fact to this day when it thunders, I remember the part about that being Thor throwing his hammer... I think about Thor in the same way I think about Odin... GG
drums12 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Escape Plan with Stallone and Schwarzenneger...I know I know...rated R, but it was kind of funny watching these old friends play off one another.
sdc999 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Just got home from seeing Gravity.... But the best part was that this was the first movie I have ever seen at an IPIC theater. Nice recliner, pillow and blanket. The waiter took our order at the seat and brought us some fresh popcorn as the movie started. Little pricey at about $20/seat + eats and drinks - but NO rowdy kids!

Pillows and blanket!!? A waiter to take your order? Well I'll be... were there many people there? GG
Tacenda Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Pillows and blanket!!? A waiter to take your order? Well I'll be... were there many people there? GGPillows and a blanket might be a bad idea in this movie. The other night I watched a great Clint Eastwood movie on cable called "Grand Torino", one of my favorite movies, except for language and racial slurs.
altersteve Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Just got back from the new Carrie remake -- wow. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with horror films, I'm fine with violent films, and the acting and cinematography were great... but there's a lot of bullying, cruelty, and self-harm in this movie that made it hard for me to watch. I'm surprised I sat through the whole thing...

I'm surprised I sat through the whole thing...I hope despite it's grossness that it had a moral to the story to not bully. There was someone in the Provo area I believe, a girl, that killed herself because of this. I guess the bullies created a "whore" list and put her name on it. Didn't get the full story, but apparently one of the bullies afterwards didn't feel any remorse about it. It's a big problem I guess, something needs to be done. If Hollywood didn't address it somehow as to make it look horrible, we have a problem.
sdc999 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Pillows and blanket!!? A waiter to take your order? Well I'll be... were there many people there? GGthe upper section was filled (18 recliners i think) the lower section was sparse with about 10 people.

I loved Gran Torino also... but also had the same reaction about the language, etc. but the underlying story of how Eastwood mentored the boy and helped him and their family was great... the ending showing Eastwood's "sacrifice" moving... GG
emmaleehughes Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Hubby and I watched The Internship... it was pretty funny!

If Hollywood didn't address it somehow as to make it look horrible, we have a problem. It definitely shows that everyone has a breaking point, and if you push someone too far, they will eventually snap. It also touches on the dangers of religious fanaticism. But depictions of bullying and self-harm really bother me, and this movie has no shortage of that.
altersteve Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Hubby and I watched The Internship... it was pretty funny! My expectations for this movie were so low, but my friend and I loved it. Right from the opening scene, we knew it would be hilarious, and it was.

Right from the opening scene, we knew it would be hilarious, and it was. My hubby wasn't fussed. He thought it was fine... I'm not sure what his problem was hahahaha! I'm a big Owen Wilson fan.
bluebell Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I saw Apollo 18 last night. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's one of those "found footage" movies of a supposed unknown Apollo 18 moon mission where the astronauts discover alien life. I was mostly happy that the camera work didn't make me want to throw up. Some found footage movies are horrible with that.
altersteve Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Escape Plan was pretty good. Definitely a lot longer than it needed to be, but certainly lots of fun. The chemistry between Stallone and Schwarzenegger was terrific, as I expected.
Deborah Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Just saw Enders Game. Now that was an entertaining movie. I had vaguely remembered it from reading many years ago but it was spectacular on screen.
altersteve Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) I saw Ender's Game today it was incredible. It skipped a few small details from the book, and it didn't really elaborate on the concept of Ender being a "third" in the family, but it's a phenomenal film. I'm a huge fan of the novel, so I was a bit worried about Gavin Hood directing it (he directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which a lot of people, myself included, strongly disliked), but he nailed this. This is one of the most well-written, gripping, intelligent, and thought-provoking sci-fi action films in years. Almost every detail was almost exactly as I imagined it. I wanted to stand up and start cheering when it was over. I loved every glorious second of this film. Edited November 3, 2013 by altersteve
Garden Girl Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Alright people... because of several of you, but particularly altersteve, I treated myself to a movie this afternoon and went to see Ender's Game... Oh m'gosh!! Loved it!! Not only incredible special effects... but a terrific story to boot... and the young actor that played Ender did a wonderful job... I'm usually not much of a Sci-Fi fan, but this movie was great... I actually got goosebumps in the last scenes when Ender is confronted by the enemy. Good on you altersteve for your comments about the film that made me want to see it... GG

altersteve Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 I'm still raving about Ender's Game. What an awesome movie. 1
Ron Beron Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 A bit dated, but I just finished watching "O Brother, where art thou?" I just love the Odyssey take on the film.
