Your signature says you support NCMO and that you are in favor of punching "Nazi's". Makes sense.

Do you even go to church?

I understand why you would be offended. Worried I will kiss you and then punch you?

I think I will skip the kiss.

Church leaders are playing politics. Same way that the church could not have survived external pressure if they had stayed polygamous.

However, the will of the Almighty Lord is always the same. The anti-christ is the jewish race and all true white Israelites are going to band together again under the banner of Jesus Christ.

Nobody is threatening the very existence of the Church right now. Why would leaders give in when they don’t have to in order for the Church to survive?

I've reported the troll. I'm assuming a few others have as well.

Already gone, lol

You just virtually punched a Natzi. That just happened.

Not as fun as punching the real thing but it is the Sabbath so probably as far as I should go.

“And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to punch Nazis on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall see one fascist, and if it fall into his hands on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and punch it out?”

Doing the best I can here until God answers my prayer.

Mate, if you're that desperate to feed your hero complex, no doubt we can convince another faux Nazi to come troll the forum with intentionally outrageous comments for you to respond to.

Dang, I missed the Nazi.

You would have adored him! He came with a script well crafted as a foil for progressive indignation. Though with your writing background, I strongly suspect you could have made him sound more authentic/convincing.

Not being particularly progressive or indignant, I can't really answer that.

It was obvious (to me) that he was pranking some of the folks here. I ordinarily don’t like or approve of trolls (and I didn’t this time) but there was some perverse entertainment value in watching some of the reactions.

It's hard to tell sometimes. The troll was saying things I've heard church members say in earnest.

Wow, that says a lot. The person was spouting hate and one of the posts sounded threatening to me. I think this is a great group. We don’t all agree but we try to be civil and I would like to think there is mutual respect at the end of the day. Do you fear “progressives” so much that you just want to see them put in their place by the likes of that person? I think you are better than that.

Nah, it was way too far over the top for that.

Reminds me of a radio talk show host years ago — I don’t recall his name now  — who would have guests on his show who said outrageous things. The thing is, these “guests” were all his own invention. Doing a voice characterization, he would pose as the guest answering questions that he himself had asked as the interviewer. It was very absorbing — in a watching-a-train-wreck sort of way — to hear people calling in to the program simmering with indignation. At the end of the show, the host would disclose the prank, but that never seemed to stop any number of other listeners from falling for subsequent such bits.

I didn't see the original posts, just the excerpts, which weren't anything particularly different from what I've heard from right-wing acquaintances in and out of the church.

The show you're thinking of was Phil Hendrie. It was pretty brilliant stuff, but you can't really keep that up forever. Even Stephen Colbert finally stopped doing his crazy-conservative act.

Or maybe they just decided to join in the prank.

Might have happened once in a while, but I don’t think it was very often, if ever.

I think the call-screener was good enough to pick out the genuinely outraged. Seems to me that's where we are in our culture: trolls on the right and the left provoke outrage from their political opponents. The problem, of course, is that a lot of these trolls have been elected to high offices at the state and federal level.

I suppose I should have called out the prank on the spot. But I’ve tried that before when such troll attacks have occurred and been roundly ignored. It’s as though the victims of the ruse don’t want to let go of their outrage.

Beware of such stereotyping. It can make one vulnerable to troll attacks.

I’m not stereotyping, just pointing out that I’ve heard similar stuff from other people in earnest.

[WARNING: HERE BE STRONG LANGUAGE] - This guy?  It would seem that podcasting has opened up a whole new world for him.  I can imagine how such a being might see mere terrestrial radio as so ... limiting  :unknw: (although it would surprise me if he hadn't traversed the bridge between terrestrial radio and podcasting known as satellite radio ...)  He was a troll before trolling was cool! B:)

Yeah, jkwilliams identified him. It was Phil Hendrie.

Funny, I would have thought his sort of shtick was unsustainable, but I guess he’s still thriving.

Well for Latter day Saint tithing is a commandment.  Mandatory for exaltation.  THus there is a strong element of compelling someone to make the donation.  That seems less charitable than a simple choice to donate to a cause or not.  By the way I bet if you looked at donations of the average active member there would be very little charitable contributions outside the ones made to the church.  Other religious people may give more to other causes but I don't know of many that emphasize tithing like our church does.  Thus they have more discretionary $ to give to other causes.

All commandments are mandatory for exaltation.

I like giving fast offerings because I know they go 100% to those who need help.
