Check out Matthew 23 -- we don't eradicate hypocrisy with evil works. I find verse 15 instructive in that gaining proselytes is a way to eradicate evil (on the surface at least), but then that evil is not eradicated when the proselyte is taught to perform wickedness. 2

Calm Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 This is the original source: https://www.sltrib.com/opinion/commentary/2022/01/20/amos-c-brown-follow-lds/ Some context, but the article is short. If you have used up free Trib articles it is a rebuttal of another piece that Brown says misrepresented the Church on the issue of race. Quote Nelson preaches a gospel of working “tirelessly to build bridges of understanding rather than creating walls of segregation.” The man next in line to be president, Dallin H. Oaks, told Brigham Young University students in 2020 that “only the gospel of Jesus Christ can unite and bring peace to people of all races and nationalities. We who believe in that gospel — whatever our origins — must unite in love of each other and of our Savior Jesus Christ.” These are the actions and words of a faith moving forward and creating a better world. Some time ago, the church presented me my family history. I learned of my great-great-grandfather, Patrick Brown. He was born enslaved in 1821 in Roxie, Mississippi. He left me the best of legacies: He did not let the evils of slavery define him. He did not allow the cruelties of others to embitter his soul. After gaining his freedom, he took the high road. He later acquired land and built a church and a school. We can gripe about the way things were. We can refuse to acknowledge all the good going on now. We can decline to embrace the opportunities before us. But these approaches will not heal our national divisions. President Hinckley, President Nelson, President Oaks, Patrick Brown, and others point to a better way. As Jesus taught, we don’t eradicate evil with more evil. We love generously and live mercifully, even toward those we think to be our enemies. So, let’s keep the past in the past. Yes, we remember it. Yes, we learn from it. But no, we do not let it define us today 2

Who needs Christ or religion to teach that? This isn't a religious question. Do we eradicate anything with the thing being eradicated? Does baseball eradicate baseball? However, the Christian religion does accept what reason demands, as your co-religionists have demonstrated. 3

Also, when caught bullying someone weaker, dad taking off his belt and wailing some sense into you about how there'll always be someone stronger. I mean, neither happened to me, but everyone knew at least two stories, and that was often enough.)

My dad did give my brother a quarter to put in a slot machine to teach him he was throwing money away when he was 8 or so…unfortunately my brother won. As far as I know he didn’t turn into a gambler though. 3

(One of the many, many ways, perhaps! )

I think fether merely wanted the best biblical citations without questioning the concept. I responded as though he/she was in favor of doing bad if it mitigates worse bad. Bad assumption. 2

Well, you've heard the old saying about "fighting fire with fire"? Fire can eradicate fire. By no means am I an expert in such things, but it's my understanding that "back fires," fires set to go in the opposite direction of one that already is burning, essentially, can leave the one that already is burning with nothing further left to burn when the two meet.
