Speaking of which I saw this article today about a billionaire member that isn't happy with how the church isn't helping more people with it's wealth and he's donating 90% of his wealth before he dies and just resigned from the church. Here's a letter he wrote Pres Nelson I guess.  https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/wealthiest-utah-native-resigns-from-the-lds-church/ar-AARZntD?ocid=msedgntp&fbclid=IwAR2554AgDMI19KoIVz81d8dskVP8SXEFduEAMs-_QTfVwjBoJdgz9ByAVOs

Lots of people choose not to follow the Prophet.  They always have a million reasons why.  Many of them, such as this gentleman, choose their world view over God and blame the Church for it.

He hasn't considered himself a member for more than a decade, and from the look of it, many of his family haven't attended for a while either.

So although the church records may decrease by a few, much like the "mass resignations" we see, it won't actually make any difference.

I think it's wonderful he'll be donating the lion's share of his wealth to worthy causes including the sizable contribution to the quoted LGBT organization locally. : ) That he has considerable wealth, however, in no way lends more credibility to his voiced concerns with the church over our history and current financial practices. He's simply one more individual among many with an opinion and, although I encourage him to voice it to the rooftops, it is just that - an opinion. I hope he does not allow it to further canker him regards to the church (we certainly have plenty of that!). He should make the break, move on, and cultivate the finest Christian principles in his new life.

I think it is great, I hope it gets publicized as something besides a way to stick it to the Church.

But the question still remains.  Why does the Church have over $100 billion in reserves?  How does it plan to use it because for the last 20 years it has only sat in investments growing bigger and bigger?

I'm not sure they're inseparable in the mind of this particular donor ...

Because shares (especially tech shares) have massively increased in share price. It's not like they have they have that money sitting in a mattress to throw at things.

I don't know.  I also don't find it relevant to me directly.  I don't tithe to give money to the Church.  I tithe because God commands it.  If the Church misuses my tithes, I believe that I'll still be blessed for being obedient and those individuals will be judged accordingly as well.

Secret plans for world domination require a lot of money.

Are you familiar with the Cardston Temple vision? It may not be a true prophecy but it gives an idea of what the money is for.

I wanted to be sure before I commented.  This supposed vision in no way shape or form feels like something from God but rather the words of a hell and brimstone evangelical minister to me.

Did you read the intro?

Maybe they did and didn't comprehend it.

This is true. I would go further and say that MOST people choose not to follow the prophet...in their own way.

Whether it is about church attendance, tithing, WoW, masks, vaccines, whatever. Most people pick and choose how they follow.

I liked your comment on the other thread about the irony of a billionaire criticizing an organization for having too much money. Great point. Obviously there's a difference between an individual business owner and a religious organization, yet it still reeks of hypocrisy.

Well, she got the race rioting right!  Other than that, it looks like general apocalyptic source material for Lori [sic; emphasis added by Kenngo1969.]  Rowe and Chad Daybell. (How come no one foresees the invention of the Internet in any of these visions?)

Sing it with me, now!

"I'm not Lori.  My name is Julie.  Lori left you, years ago."

Sorry!  Couldn't resist! :unknw:

;):D  (I understand the confusion, though: Lori Vallow Daybell and Julie Rowe do seem, in many ways, to be birds of a feather.)

I think Daniel did. I'll have to hunt for the verse I'm thinking of.
