They are human for Pete's sake! All humans are fallible. I don't know how all these strange ideas get into the church !

I feel SO bad for them! And very often you will hear "praise God" from a visitor I always approach them afterwards and tell them how much I liked the talk too, welcome them, etc. It only happens when their host forgets to warn them! Our ward is very diverse. Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, Black folks, Polynesians in lava lavas, etc. When I am in Utah, it feels weird when all the women are blonde and all the men are wearing dark suits. My wife and I will be vacationing in Chicago next summer and plan on attending a thriving & lively south Chicago evangelical congregation with arock band and all. Definitely looking forward to it. ; ) Once we used to have an annual music fest on a Friday night in the chapel - we invited several congregations from neighboring churches to send choirs, soloists, small groups, etc. All the music was "sacred" but pretty wild for us, to hear drums, trumpets, applause, and the audience chiming in with the choirs etc LOTS of fun! What was wrong with having separate meetings dedicated specifically for men and women respectively? I wonder if we can soon expect to see priesthood and women's meetings on Sundays combined as well.

Seems like we are doing away with many traditions and not creating new ones. I think traditions are critical in fostering unity.

I was good with them except the women's one had become more like "women and children" with girls age 8 and over invited. 3

There was also an incredible feeling of unity among all the men in the ward or stake as we gathered for the meeting. Plus it was nice to hear messages specifically for men and boys about honoring your priesthood, serving, etc. It seemed that the best and most relevant talks for me always came from the priesthood session. It's all over now. And I really want to know why. What was the reason?

I always wondered why they decided to include 8 year old girls several years ago. In my opinion the old format of having a meeting for young women and another for adult women the week before conference made the most sense. Either way it's gone now and we can only speculate as to why the brethren did away with it.

Even the most recent conference which had a talk about priesthood bearers exercising their priesthood, had, I think, a single paragraph that couldn't directly be applied to everyone. Outside the US, our Conference Sunday is a week later, by which time many people have read or watched all the talks anyway, and the Saturday sessions are always a poor turnout at the meetinghouses. The only benefit in segregated sessions I see is a practical one, in that couples with young kids can have a parent at home while the other goes to a session. 6

So you really don't think there was any benefit to having a meeting with talks dedicated specifically for men and another specifically for women, other than child care? There's a big difference between being a man and a woman. Most messages can be applied to both groups, but some things are unique to each gender. I see a huge benefit to having a meeting specifically dedicated to addressing the needs of each gender. And I would really like to know why they were scrapped.

You're probably right, but is it really unreasonable to want to know why these meetings were scrapped? Are the brethren trying to move the church away from traditional gender roles? Are they planning to give women the priesthood soon? Are they planning on embracing alternative gender identities? Was this simply a practical decision because of poor attendance? Because the brethren won't tell us why they made this decision we are left to speculate why they did this or simply accept it without question. I wish the brethren would tell us the reason, so we don't have to speculate.

The Mean Farmer Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I'd rather cut all Saturday sessions and have Quarterly General Conference. I probably watch 10 hours a television (including streaming etc...) in a 2-3 week period. 10 hours over a weekend is...a lot.

Who said that wondering why the brethren scrapped these meetings is at the "top of my list" of things to worry about? I see a lot of trends in the church (and the world at large) that have me puzzled. This is just one of many things I'm trying to make sense of.
