White Horse Prophecy Is in the News Again (Romney/Trump)

Right-wing pastor Perry Stone posted a message on his Facebook page this morning suggesting that Republican Sen. Mitt Romney may vote to remove President Donald Trump from office because Romney believes doing so might result in him becoming president in accordance with Mormon prophecy.

In 1843, Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, supposedly delivered a message known as “The White Horse Prophecy” that declared that one day, when the U.S. Constitution was hanging by a thread, the Mormon people would rise up and save the nation.

In 2010, the LDS church issued an official statement that “the so-called ‘White Horse Prophecy’ is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine,” but Stone thinks that Romney, who is Mormon, might be attempting to fulfill the prophecy by voting to remove Trump from office in hopes of creating a constitutional crisis that would eventually lead to Romney becoming president:

Quote

There is the Mormon prophecies. Mitt is a strong Mormon and the Mormon religion has numerous prophecies that have been recorded and accepted concerning future (or end time) events, of which Mitt is familiar. The founder of the Mormon religion, Joseph Smith, gave a “White Horse prophecy,” that a Mormon would one day be President of the United States, and I personally believe this is why Mitt ran for president (too complicated to explain on Facebook), to hopefully fulfill this prophecy.
...

The prophecies include future fighting between the states, in which farmers would be suffering; a battle with the people at the southern border. Government division and confusion would cause riots in the streets against the politicians in Washington, causing politicians to go into hiding for fear of their lives. There would be a Constitutional crisis, in which afterward a Mormon would step in, form a new political pro-Constitution Party and become the nations hero. If Trump is impeached, much of this could be fulfilled as his supporters would create an uprising against those who used fake documents to create a model of opportunity to undo an election! Is Mitt for impeachment, thinking HE is the man who will raise up after a huge crisis?

I am only asking – not predicting.

And so it goes...

Thanks,

-Smac

Wow!  I am confused as to what he thinks the road to the white house would be for Romney if Trump was impeached.  Vice President Pence would fill the vacancy, not Romney.  Then, of course, we would have the elections in November...

If he actually believes this is Romney's fantasy, it doesn't have to be logical as God will set things up.

I wonder how much is Stone just trying to get his own name in the paper and discredit Romney at the same time and how much he actually considers it a possibility rather than just being honest with himself it is wishful thinking that Romney is that 'peculiar'.

We'll see what happens, I guess.  If Romney runs I'll probably vote for him. Either him or Bernie.  Not that I'm thrilled about either one of them but I think it would be nice to have a Mormon member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a POTUS.

This guy is an idiot. Romney gets the Presidency if the entire cabinet and the entire house are wiped out and he becomes Senate Majority Leader. That is his only path.

I personally think it would be funny to impeach at this point. As far as I am aware that would not disqualify Trump from running again so he could turn the government over to Pence for half a year and campaign which is what he prefers to do anyways.

To me it feels hopeless right now.

Interesting.  I didn't realize that was an option, until now.  I'd still rather have a Bernie or a Romney instead of more Trump, though... although I do like the tax breaks Trump has given to me.

In Trump's case, he could theoretically be impeached, removed from office, and still run for reelection and become president for a second term if he wins.

As Insider's Grace Panetta highlighted, while the Constitution lays out the process for removing a sitting president, it doesn't prevent a president or any other "civil officer" from running for or being reelected to a federal office.

If lawmakers want to prevent a person from being able to take office again, the Senate must pass a measure by a simple majority that would bar that person from holding public office.

In Trump's case, both his removal from office and such a measure by the Senate are highly unlikely because the chamber is controlled by the Republican Party, whose members have largely stood by the president even as public support for his impeachment and removal from office mounts.

I believe you’re missing Perry Stone’s point. What he’s speculating is that Romney might be ambitious enough, and persuaded by the prophecy’s validity enough, to try to help God out by voting for conviction . Like any good anti-Mormon worth his salt, Stone is suggesting Romney might be a deluded religious fanatic.

I don’t know how you would justify voting for an aging hippie and radical socialist like Sanders, but to each his own, I guess.

Actually, “public support for his impeachment” has stagnated, if not diminished.

The 2 I like best out of my current options.  If both make it to the Primary I' would choose Mitt.  If Mitt doesn't make the cut I would choose Bernie.  If neither of them make it I would probably just not vote for whoever is still in the running.

So... a White Horse leads to the White House? Doh!

I've heard stupider connections used to explain End of Days prophecy. Not many though.

Impeaching Trump would still not get Romney closer to the White House in any way. So that would make Roger Stone or Mitt Romney an idiot. Or Roger Stone is a deluded religious fanatic himself and is imagining what he would do in Romney's position which also makes Roger Stone an idiot.

Conclusion: No matter how you look at it Roger Stone is an idiot.

Shouldn't be that hard. You justified voting for a draft dodging grifter and unapologetic adulterous playboy. I am guessing it would not be hard to extrapolate from that experience.

True, but they would be two of my favorites as well. I find them both to be reasonably honest and sincere and I currently prize moral character as worth more than political alignment particularly in the present venal climate. I am worried if trends continue that in another decade or two sanity will be a more reasonable virtue to base my voting patterns on.

There were some bumps a while back but you are right. Support has been pretty steady for the last little while. I would use the word "steady" over "stagnated" because the latter is a charged word.

He’s suggesting that because Romney probably believes God is going to miraculously intervene in order to make sure the prophecy comes to pass (think of God miraculously intervening in order to free the hopelessly enslaved children of Israel from Egyptian bondage), that Romney thinks he may as well help God out by removing one of the obstacles that’s standing in the way of the eventual fulfillment of the prophecy. Stone is further suggesting that an ensuing post conviction Constitutional crisis (you know, the Constitution hanging by a thread?) will prepare the way for the prophecy’s fulfillment.

Still makes him an idiot. Removing a President by a constitutional method is unlikely to trigger a constitutional crisis unless the President were brazen enough to refuse to surrender the office which means the Senate would have to vote for conviction and I do not see that happening unless we have video evidence surface that Trump is raping people in the Oval Office and/or shooting American citizens. I am not sure it would happen even if we did have such evidence.

He is just trying to rile up his idiotic base. The morons who bought into Pizzagate are the class of dullards he is trying to incite.

I said “stagnated” because it has never been overwhelmingly in favor and has not increased commensurate with growing public awareness as one might expect it to if it were justified. Approval has has never crossed partisan lines and has actually decreased among voters who identify themselves as independent.

Bear in mind that politicians favoring impeachment (think Maxine Waters) have declared their intention from Day 1 of the Trump presidency and, the whole time, have been casting around for an excuse — any excuse — to carry it out. At long last they could never muster better than a 100 percent partisan vote in the House.

At least with Trump we’re not risking being taken down the road to a Venezuela-style dictatorship.

And I disagree with you: When it comes to government, political alignment and wisdom are at least as important as character.
