Popular Post The Nehor Posted December 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 14, 2018 The First Presidency just announced that all Young Men/Young Women progression will occur simulataneously in January in the year that they turn 12, 14, and 16. This means ordination to be a deacon and joining the Beehives will occur at the age of 11. 6
Hamba Tuhan Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 (edited) It also means obtaining temple recommends before turning 12. Link. Edited December 14, 2018 by Hamba Tuhan 2
Ginger Snaps Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 And priesthood ordination before 12, 14 and 16 if I’m reading it right! 1

Popular Post cinepro Posted December 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 14, 2018 (edited) Here's the link: https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/age-changes-youth-progression-ordination-announced?fbclid=IwAR3_f0aPOHWsnskYwbdb3AGSn90ppXzmZRgOvirEn5TTB4mCvQyyqOdYJOA Wow. I actually spent a bit of time making sure this was from a legit website. I hate to say for all the hype about major, shocking announcements coming, I'm actually shocked. It makes me wish I had taken my vitamins this week, because I wasn't prepared for this. I also have to add that as someone who has been discussing the Church on the internet for 20 years, I can remember all the times people pointed out that there didn't seem to be much revelation or change in the Church from the current prophet (Hinckley or Monson). Yes, I'm sure I've even pointed it out once or twice . Now that we have a Prophet who is actually making changes, the criticisms are about the kind of changes, or that there are too many (or not enough), or that they weren't made sooner, or that they're still not what we would expect to come from God, or that it's just a laundry list of pet peeves Nelson has built up over the years. Sure, it's not the sealed portion (yet), but even as a critic I have to admit that at a certain point, the criticisms can get stretched pretty thin. When you have to try that hard, it stops being fun. Edited December 14, 2018 by cinepro 10
alter idem Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Does it state this? Progression means attending the class starting in January rather than waiting till their birthday, but unless it states explicitly, it could be they still wait till birthday for ordination and eligibility for recommend.

The Nehor Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 Bishop is going to have a lot of interviews in January. 3

It does state that. It says In addition, young men will be eligible for ordination to the appropriate priesthood office in January of the year they turn 12, 14, and 16.
Popular Post bluebell Posted December 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 14, 2018 As the YW's president, my mind is blown. It's going to be really interesting having 11 year olds in YWs, because there is a lot of difference between a young 11 and an old 12 year old. I'm sure it'll be the same for YMs. And I really wish we had known about this a few weeks ago, just so that we had more time to organize, because December is already so busy and trying to squeeze in a presidency meeting in the last two weeks of the year, with Christmas and New Years and everyone traveling is not going to be fun. But this is all pretty exciting too! 6
bsjkki Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I love the changes! But it’s back to drawing board on teacher assignments in Primary. I suddenly have 2 extra teachers. What about scouts? Do these boys move up from 11 year old scouts? That leaves an awkward span between webelos and scouts. Thankfully, whatever they do there will only last one year. 2
MorningStar Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 When I got the email, I thought, "I better sit down for this one." I guess there won't be fun initiations for girls when they join YW anymore because they're all joining together. Do boys do that? It's nice though that there won't be kids left alone in their class in primary at the end of the year as their friends all turn 12 and advance. 2

I just went to pick up my daughter and another girl from activity days the other night and the other girl was seriously crying and complained, "I'm always first to be picked up and it's not fair!" She was also crying because of the white elephant exchange. She didn't get what she wanted and I was thinking, "Oh man. She'll be in YW in less than a year. She's not ready." Well now she will be in it next month! 😮 3

cinepro Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 There's a FAQ here: Age Change FAQ This one is interesting about camps, dances and conferences: Quote Generally, youth in a class or quorum may enjoy the privileges that are appropriate for that class or quorum. With their parents’ approval, Beehives and deacons may attend camps before their 12th birthdays. Likewise, Mia Maids and teachers may attend dances and youth conferences before their 14th birthdays. However, a young woman or young man should be at least age 16 before beginning to date (see For the Strength of Youth [2011], 4). 3

Yeah, they become Scouts at 11 though the FAQ for the announcement pointed out this is only a short term situation. 2 minutes ago, MorningStar said: When I got the email, I thought, "I better sit down for this one." The initiation for Young Men is getting ordained with those in your class. In the Priest Quorum they usually all participate in the ordination which is great. The instruction is also to move them into the new classes right away so I am guessing we will have prospective deacons, teachers, and priests for a few weeks. 2

bsjkki Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 So the Primary Faith in God is over next year and now the 11 year olds are gone. Does this mean they can’t earn it all? Can they finish even though they have moved on if they want.
tulip Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 A kid born in December will be ordained at 11,13, and 15. A kid born in January will be ordained at 12,14 and 16. The program worked perfectly by birthday. This change just reeks of desperation.
