My prophet is not expected to warn about all human suffering. I'm not sure why you are saying all human suffering. I wouldn't expect that, any would be nice. Quote I am beyond grateful for the word of God they do offer me. It has blessed me beyond words. I treasure the pearls of great price they offer. If my family was killed in a major earthquake tomorrow, I would not be angry at God or the prophet for not giving warning. I see the big picture, thanks to the prophets. Well good...you are blessed beyond words and most of us are not so blessed. I've expressed sorrow at the notion that the peoples of the former Yugoslavia went through a ton of crap. it sucked. It would've been nice if prophetic warning sounded in their ears as difficulties arose. As I said, I heard the nationalist chant for Serbia and thought of the pain that was caused. Thanks for talking about it, as much as we did. Edited May 22, 2018 by stemelbow

Especially when you consider he made it five years after the end of the Second World War. And I note Pres Hinckley prefaced his outlook comment with: Quote Now, brethren, I want to make it very clear that I am not prophesying, that I am not predicting years of famine in the future. But I am suggesting that the time has come to get our houses in order. So you think he was prophesying, even though he himself stated explicitly that he wasn’t. 🤔 Edited May 22, 2018 by Marginal Gains

strappinglad Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 There have always been wars, and earthquakes and so forth. In about 1960 there was a famine in China. I've read that approximately 10 million people died. They died like flies. Who knew about it ? The Chinese in the area knew. A few Russians knew. The US military command knew because their spy planes got pics of the trucks carrying the bodies. Did the world in general know? Nope. It was all kept secret. The Chinese did not want to lose face. The Russians have always been secretive, and the Americans didn't want anyone to know how good their high res cameras were. Did the Prophet know? I doubt he knew the specifics. The 20th century was the deadliest one( so far ) . All others pale in comparison. More deaths by war and famine and pestilence than any other. A conservative estimate runs well over 100,000,000. I find one phrase in prophecy interesting. That is that there will be rumors of wars. With the internet it is now possible to find out about any armed conflict anywhere in the world in seconds. When the prophecy was written, people only knew about local wars, and rumors about others could be months out of date. 1

That might be a faulty assumption. An unmarried older woman may not have had a chance to be married rather than choosing not to be. Sheri Dew, for example, in an interview (I believe it was SistasinZion) spoke of how disappointed she has been when her dream of having a husband and family didn't come true (it's not only about being proposed to, in my experience; you need a proposal from someone you are compatible with...sometimes that doesn't happen). Did Sister Nelson ever state she chose her career over a family? Edited May 24, 2018 by Calm 1

I'm not talking about the "feminism" that asks for equal rights and equal protection of the law I'm talking about the now rampant upgrade/downgrade to feminism that is sometimes called "Third-Wave Feminism", which is the brand of rampant feminism that would actually be better described as "female supremacism." May I introduce you to Roaming Millennial?

If you don't want to be criticized for attacking all forms of feminism, then you should specify what form of feminism you mean. It is too hard for most posters, even me who is reading every day almost all posts, to keep track of the nuances of personal ideologies. 1
Ahab Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 On 5/21/2018 at 9:39 AM, Duncan said: “The mission president had arranged for the Church's local legal counsel, a young woman lawyer, to assist the visiting Church leaders in procuring a suitable building for meetings. When the mission president had called her the previous evening to confirm the appointment with Elders Nelson and Ringger the following day, she sounded somewhat inebriated on the telephone. With unsteady speech, she explained that she had lost two court cases that week and was feeling a little down. "I will meet you tomorrow," she slurred. "Long live Serbia!" When the Brethren met with her the next morning, they noticed that she had obviously applied her makeup with an unsteady hand. Nevertheless, they forged ahead with their search. The lawyer had, indeed, done her homework, and the Brethren were pleased with some of the alternatives she showed them, especially a substantial three-story house constructed of granite and located in a good neighborhood close to several embassies. Following the search, the mission president apologized profusely to Elder Nelson for having retained a lawyer who was given to drink. Elder Nelson placed his hand on the young mission president's shoulder and said, "Just look at her situation. Here she is, unmarried, living alone, and trying her best to compete in a male-dominated society in a male-dominated profession. The Savior has a soft spot in His heart for young women like her." Smac97's Pope story reminded me of this episode,it took place somewhere in Eastern Europe and I was wondering what "all yall" thought of it? I think it's a wonderful example of how insightful President Nelson is and can be. Women can and often do a lot of good in this world, even when they have been drinking alcoholic beverages. 1
