CA Steve Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 This is interesting. I wonder why this information was removed at the request of the legal department? All Church unit statistical information has been removed at the request of the Church Legal Department. Anyone know or even have a guess?
BillyandJane Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 What kind of statistics were on that page? Does anyone know?

Ginger Snaps Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Maybe it's a copyright issue? They aren't an official website of the church. 1

Duncan Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I look at some temples and they have unit information such as the Temple District, i.e. stakes and districts but not wards or branches

Could certain aspects of the public relations efforts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints be better managed? Perhaps. Could response to certain issues be improved. Again, perhaps. But this is not such an issue. Detractors are so determined to find fault with the Church that, now, the Church has been made responsible for what appears (and what does not appear) on a private Web site. Call me crazy, but I call that perverse. 1

It might have been just a copy/paste job. If the Church does not attempt to control its content being taken by others even for a good purpose, it may lose the right to control it and that would include instances where they disliked the use or so I have been told by lawyers. What are "sensitive units"?

Oliblish Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) There is another site that tracked changes to wards and branches that is no longer open to the public. If you think this is a mistake, you might want to contact the blog author and request an invitation. Is anyone here still able to access this? http://ldsunitgrowth.blogspot.com/ It actually looks like the church is shutting down anyone publishing information about wards and branches being created or discontinued. My guess is it is related to the decision to stop announcing statistics in General Conference. Edited April 9, 2018 by Oliblish typo

Calm Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) They may have been pulling the info off the lds.org clerk or something blog, perhaps a leaker was providing them the info...I saw a link that looked like that on the temple site. Those stats might be intended to be confidential from the start. It might be like farming the Church website for names for your business. Somethings should just be confidential. The Nehor Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 The church has been tightening down lately on people using their info. In all the sessions of Stake Conference I attended over the weekend there was a specific announcement in every meeting not to record or transcribe anything said by the General or Area Authorities. Pretty sure that is probably going to happen at all conferences going forward.

Maybe copyright is the means to get the information off of the site? However, if the numbers were sunny and bright as they were in the 80's, one wonders if the church wouldn't be paying sites to publish its numbers, to get the word out about the exponential growth?
