Popular Post JAHS Posted April 1, 2018 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2018 I put together a small montage of some of the surprising revelations from General Conference. 6
halconero Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 For some reason my browser isn’t displaying it, but did you include Elder Eyring’s vision of Mary Magdalene at the tomb? That was mind blowing to me. 2
Prof Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Thanks for posting this. Surprised indeed! I didn't think I'd see a temple in Russia in my lifetime.

You still might not. The proposal has to get past Vlad Putin. Maybe it will require the good offices of Senator Mitt Romney. If they actually do it, and if I'm still ambulatory by then, I'd be willing to do a temple mission there. Just hope they don't put it out in Siberia. 1

My dad had an uncle who was a German POW in WW2 in Siberia, working in a coal mine for 2 years after the war. let me put it to you this way, he didn't like it Edited April 2, 2018 by Duncan
Calm Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 My husband and I are thinking Nizhny would be a good choice. Somewhere not Moscow where the temple might be a greater target for anti-American politics, but large enough city with lots of ways to get there and somewhat central in location. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nizhny_Novgorod They had to have some level of federal (Russian) approval, otherwise announcing it would have been automatic suicide given no missionaries, just "volunteers" now. Makes sense to announce before going to the work of finding a site to see if approval can withstand the anti-Mormon element in the government and in the political environment. If there isn't sufficient backlash to get the approval pulled, then find a good spot. 1

With there being a moratorium on proselyting activities I would think that it would not be the right time to consider it yet. But there are 23,000 members who would benefit from it now.

The Nehor Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 That was a good conference. I am not usually a cryer but I found tears in my eyes twice throughout the meetings. Unless it was the allergies.....but I doubt that.

Now do you really consider these "revelations"? Or are they more like "the minutes from the business meeting".....which would be a far more accurate description in my opinion. Or "announcements and proposals"....I just don't consider any of the highlights above, as divinely inspired.

Minutes from the business meeting, or announcements. We can go with that. Here are some other minutes from another business meeting, or announcement: Quote After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 3

I mostly mean it in the sense that new changes were being revealed to the membership, but I am also certain that revelation was involved in the development of these new policies. 1

JAHS Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 Here's the letter that will be read in Sacrament meeting.
cinepro Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 The second paragraph of that letter is surprising. Are we really supposed to call this new group "Elder's Society"? That will take a while to get used to.

Prof Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 JAHS, Thanks for posting the letter! I look forward to seeing these changes move forward!!!

Are you suggesting that the Lord Jesus appeared to the "LDS apostles" and said....as part of the restoration i want you to combine the two quorms together into one group....and also, thus saith the lord.....no more home teaching.......? The NT apostles were direct witnesses of Jesus, are you suggesting your apostles are on equal ground?
