Popular Post Avatar4321 Posted March 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 31, 2018 Figured we would get a conference thread going to discuss anything interesting. Has anyone done anything to prepare for conference? I thought I would listen to the Book of Mormon while driving, and I've had lots of time to drive. I was hoping it would invite the Spirit more this weekend. What I didn't expect was the Spirit coming more throughout the week. Mostly because its been subtle changes. I've been less irritable and angry than usual. Ive been feeling more peaceful in situations that would stress me out. My daughter asked me something the other day and whatever I said surprised her. She was like "why aren't you upset about that like you usually are when I ask that?" Which is a bit of a rebuke in and of itself but I realized I wasn't upset in the slightest. And I might have been otherwise but it was the Spirits Influence on me. So I'm expecting this conference to be awesome. Anyone else excited? 7
Avatar4321 Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Any topic you are interested in Learning about this conference? My top 3 1) gift of discernment 2) gifts of the Spirit 3) more about light, how we get it, it's practical spiritual uses etc
longview Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 4) more of President Nelson's insights to the BoM. I loved his article about using language script that is different from the spoken language. I.E. Hebrew written using Egyptian script (he provided examples from other cultures).

gopher Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Why no leaks about the new apostles? The moles in the COB seem to be low level. 1

Tacenda Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 I wonder if we'll hear from Elder Uchtdorf in conference. And hoping we see some big changes that are needed.

All members of the 12 speak at every conference. The only reason women may not hear him is if he is the one designated to speak at priesthood session

Rain Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 (edited) That's different! The first presidency only sustained the first presidency and the 12. Now the 12 only are doing it. Elder Gong and Soares were put in as the other 2 in the 12. Edited March 31, 2018 by Rain 1

Educated at BYU. Elder Soares is Brazilian and born in Sao Paulo (assuming I found the right guy). Educated in Sao Paulo University. Both served as Seventies previously. Rain Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 (edited) Then they had seventies, high priest and elders stand and sustain. Then RS. Then Aaronic priesthood. Then YW. Then everyone. This tickles me that the RS and YW were included as their own group. Edited March 31, 2018 by Rain 2

Okrahomer Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Am I mistaken? It seems like that’s the first time the sisters have been included as groups in the Solemn Assembly?
Jeanne Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 This is the first time in years that I have been available for the sustaining..I was going to ask if it had changed or if this had been around awhile.

Before that it was just the priesthood quorums singled out. Edited March 31, 2018 by JAHS 2

It seems like that’s the first time the sisters have been included as groups in the Solemn Assembly? Not the first time. I did a bit of looking and the same procedure was used in the solemn assembly when President Monson was sustained. I checked when President Benson was first sustained and the Relief Society and Young Women were not separately asked to stand though of course they were included in the general membership sustaining. Looks like the only members left who do not get their special time to stand and sustain are boys and girls between 8 and 11. Edit: I was too slow. Edited March 31, 2018 by The Nehor 2

Solemn Assembly for President Monson - https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2008/04/the-sustaining-of-church-officers?lang=eng Solemn Assembly for President Hinckley - https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1995/04/the-solemn-assembly-sustaining-of-church-officers?lang=eng I think the only difference between today's Solemn Assembly and those two is that the Relief Society's sustaining was right after the Melchezidek's sustaining instead of after the Aaronic's sustaining. 4

Dodged that bullet.
Jeanne Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Now don't get mad at me...but if you tell yourself something10 times a day...are you brainwashed 12 hours later? Trust me I know that i am a child of God..but I didn't learn it this way. (Speaker from the 70's ..2nd speaker)
