Penthouse doesn't like Church's anti-porn stance

Oh my.

It appears we have upset Penthouse magazine.

To be clear, I'll mention the Church, I don't think has weighed in on this legislation. But as is so often the case the Church is getting blamed for it because we are so repressive and controlling.

As for me, I'm inclined to view Penthouse's disapproval as a badge of honor.

Do you suppose this is good publicity for the Church? BoM on the cover of porn mags etc.  Perhaps the Church should have learned their lesson long ago over the oral sex deal.  i.e. that they should stay out of personal aspects of peoples lives. Perhaps the Church should have leaved their lesson long ago over prop 8, i.e. that they should stay out of politics.

Seems they would be much better off letting the missionaries and controlled channels tell their story verse Larry Flinn and the likes.  But they just never seem to learn.

"In a parting shot, the magazine has a 12-page photo spread titled "Sister Wives," where two models first appear in outfits intended to make them look like polygamists before they disrobe. "

Who knows, it may spur a more thorough look into the BOM if it is on the cover. Kind of like how having that bad play called the Book Of Mormon actually brought a lot of interest into the BOM and actually brought in converts that wouldn't have otherwise looked into the church at this time.

Well, perhaps.  The Church is making its stance known.  That stance will, in this age of moral depravity, subject the Church to ridicule.  How the Church responds to that, I think, is noteworthy.  In the main, the Church continues to make its position clear, but otherwise ignores the ridicule.  In some unique circumstances, the Church may even take advantage of supposedly adverse publicity (witness the Church's decision to put an ad for The Book of Mormon in the playbills for the incredibly profane Broadway play, The Book of Mormon).

I think the Church does a pretty good job there.  The Church is not being unduly intrusive when it instructs its members regarding pornography, or adultery, or other behaviors incompatible with the covenants we make as members of the Church.

How is porn purely a political issue?  Can you perhaps grant that it is more than that?

I don't know what you mean here.

Shock schlock.  That's all it is.  Are you seriously suggesting that the Church should withdraw from attempting to fulfill its mandate out of fear of ridicule in the pages of a porn magazine?

Thanks,

Seriously? You think it's bad publicity for the Church that it is disapproved by a porn magazine?

I want to know how is porn harmful? You think pornography makes sexual predators?

Did you know that all the solid democratic states are doing better than Utah? How sad!

In fact six of the top ten states are "Solid Democratic" Screenshot-2015-02-09-at-6.47.55-AM.png

Doctors aren't infallible. How about a different perspective on the evils of porn, coming from one of the most evil people, as his last words here on Earth before being executed in capital punishment for his crimes: https://youtu.be/xwyIOmjvvd8

Porn is evil, period.

It sounds like it does to me, when I listen to Ted Bundy's interview about himself and his fellow prison inmates.

It is no surprise that the more Mormon states have a higher rate. It was also apparent in the Book Of Mormon that those who fell away and turned to evil practices were far worse than just the regular Lamanites who were born without knowledge of the truth.

I certainly haven't ever heard of any redeeming qualities that have come about because of porn.

"Rates are the number of reported forcible rapes per 100,000 people."

Does not equal number of rapes per 100,000.  Your data may simply be an indication that conservatives are more likely to REPORT a rape than a liberal.

Just sayin.

Looks like an easy way for the magazine to drum up publicity for itself. They have recently been able to turn their operating in the red into a profit, this gives them lots of free advertising.

I think you all should follow the example of the LDS leaders.
