Glenn Beck... A Man Without A Home

Recommended Posts

Posted

Not a lot of Mormons want him....  Not  a lot of exmormons want him.  It's rumored that he no longer attends his ward due to a dispute between several members there.

Daniel Peterson weighed in to offer support and was promptly facebook smacked in the process.

It will be interesting to see him progress through this.

Will the church be tolerant of his rantings against 'men of the cloth'?  Or will he resign?

As Glenn sorts out what he really believes, I'm assuming he will still be Glenn - very vocal in his journey.

I saw his post on FB and the over 5, 000 comments to it, along with Daniel Petersen's reaching out. And several ex Mormon's comments and the sharing of the CES letter. But think they're jumping to conclusions. And have several family members, along with my bishop who are friends with him among the thousands of others on FB. Several of which I doubt have even heard of the CES letter.

I am not sure that he is really coming out against the Church.  I doubt it.   I tried to read the posts on Facebook,  He is first an entertainer and bold statements are more likely to get attention.  That is his MO.  Yes, he is a brother.  Now, does every thing he says or does make the Church look good?  No, IMO.

You drive me crazy Glenn Beck, but you are still 'Brother'. Hope things work out for him.

What in the world are you talking about?

Juliann you would have to read Glen's posts on his FB page. First he posted the famous post either on Jan. 11th or 12th. Find the one about 3 or more down with over 5, 000 comments. The post Canard is talking about is from a recent show and you're able to watch it and it runs maybe 10 min. Oops, maybe he posted the link. Is this in any way an answer to your question?

What in the world are you talking about?

Glenn Beck's public profile:

The world is upside down. For the first time in many years I have again begun to question EVERYTHING I think I know.

I read something so disappointing in a paper this am. I really no longer know who to trust. That includes me. I want to make sure I am not so arrogant that I just assume I am right. Because I am no longer sure.

I know I am right about what I see on the horizon. Just not so sure how to deal with it. I find myself angry with leaders. Business, political, religious. I know anger does not come from The Lord. I also know that I need to take the beam out of my own eye first.

Questioning. Not the destination. Just the route and my roll in mapping it.

It is good I guess.

I have been reading my scriptures a lot lately. I keep getting the same message. Man was created to serve God. So how best to do that with the job I have.

I have really come to a place where I have lost my faith in the men of cloth. That is really playing a big role in this. But I am sure they know better and certainly more than I do.

I have lost so much faith in man. Par for the course. Put your faith in God, not men.

A lot has happened to me over the last few months. Those I thought I could trust in my personal lives have taught me otherwise.

Maybe it is a flaw in me.

What is He trying to teach me?

Now that I have my brain in high gear again, I have begun to turn over stones at work. We had lost our way a bit. But the corrections are being made. We are once again aligning ourselves with principles that are immovable.

I am really excited about our new path. I recorded a company message that goes out to the team this am. I am excited to hear what they think as they begin to piece it together with me over the next six months. I am even more excited about spending more time with you one on one.

Yet, with all I see on the horizon and the way our leaders on all fronts are behaving, I wonder how much of a voice we have and perhaps how much of a voice we should have.

I know many of you don't like it when I question what we are doing. I think it is healthy. Some perceive that I am losing hope. I am not. If patterns of my life remain true, there is a huge opening up of the skies coming.

I just hope it comes without much more of this.

Maybe The Lord is sending me into my desert. Maybe I am already there.

"I have really come to a place where I have lost my faith in the men of cloth."

I am curious, is this typical usage of Beck's to refer to all religious leaders, including LDS ones.  I am not sure I ever heard a mormon refer to a mormon leader as "men of the cloth" even though it is defined as "clergyman".  We don't really label our leaders as clergy either.  I assume it is a terminology he picked up as a nonmember.

So is he talking about the LDS faith, all faith in general or nonLDS faiths?

Anyone know?

Since gossiping about fellow Saints seems appropriate here, I will add my two cents

Beck was referred to as a "tedious blowhard" and "an entertainer shouldn't be taken seriously" in a piece published by DeseretNews.

In other Beck news, he railed against religious leaders supporting with Vladimir Putin.

So who really knows what is going on.

Beck wrote the above on his FB page that could be interpreted as a faith crisis…it has many of the typical phrases though it could be about something beside religious faith specifically.  Dan Peterson responded in a post that it was unlikely Beck would know him, but some of his friends likely would and that Dan would be happy to help how he could.

His comments are so vague, I don't think anything can be resolved about what he means besides a deep frustration.  All the rest about his ward and stuffappears to be gossip on anti sites as far as I can tell from a quick search though there may be an original source from him.

No one is gossiping since the information was on his facebook. We are however commenting, something that one can also do on the FB page. I would doubt that the newspaper would affect him much. It wasn't the church who called him such names but an individual who writes for the paper. However, if he is suffering from a bit of the melancholy, it may affect him for a moment. I think that he is like most of us bothered by the world. It is not easy out there. But I do think that he used to personal criticisms about his ideas.

I haven't listened to him in a few years, but my recollection is that while being LDS, he is friendly with and very inclusive with leaders and members of many faiths (e.g., Billy Graham). Going by the choice of words he used (men of the cloth), he may be referring to something more general about current religious leaders, and not necessarily LDS.

Of course, that didn't stop everyone from assuming it was a personal faith crisis and posting about the CES letter and such.

The way Beck forms connections, he most likely interprets anything coming out of Deseret News to be coming from Church leaders.

What in the world are YOU talking about? Is it Canard78's post, or someone else's? Please be clear. Thanks.

Some have suggested that the new essays have had an impact on Beck.  Who knows?  His explanation of polygamy in the early days of the church (on his TV program during the Romney campaign) was embarrassing and showed his complete lack of knowledge on the topic.  Maybe someone filled him in on the truth or the essay on Polygamy set him straight?  He did post awhile ago that he is no longer attending church.  But he has also been in poor health, so maybe that's why he hasn't been attending.

Here's a link to a discussion on here regarding what he said about polygamy:

I still watch his program on the Blaze website. No indication there of any loss of his faith or that he would ever consider resigning. He ends each program with a heart felt prayer.; a very Mormon prayer.

Thanks.  I thought he kind of disappeared but I have stopped watching cable news dog and pony shows altogether.  Life is so much better now.

Glenn is a good man who has strongly been effected by the atonement. If he lost his faith in Christ then he is having a very rough time. Prayers for him if any of that is true.

Some have suggested that the new essays have had an impact on Beck...

Correct me if I'm wrong -- but doesn't a chain of command

exist in the LDS Church, whereby his Bishop could communicate

Beck's concerns to higher authorities, and then get back to him

with counsel and instruction?

Perhaps the guy has too much free time on his hands, and could

benefit from work in a service mission? Transcribing old European

branch records might keep him busy enough -- and might change

his notions regarding speaking directly to the public on matters of

such an unresolved nature.

Then again, I'm not a Mormon -- so what do I know of such things?

It is not gossip when the subject posts it online where everyone can see it.

CFR to both of you that in the Beck FB post in question that:

"he no longer attends his ward due to a dispute between several members there."

"his frustration is with his perception of Des News"

"he suffers from depression"

So would either of venture to explain how spreading a rumor is not gossip? Or that alluding that he suffers from depression is not gossip?
