Glenn Beck's Shockingly Absurd Retelling Of Polygamy History...

I laughed until I cried it was so bad...

"Most of the men were dead."

Really, Glenn?

Not getting the facts right is a problem...The dumb voice is offensive.

There are much better spokespeople.

Hopefully someone will write him and correct his misinformation.

His need to insult is distasteful.

Oh man, he has got the facts wrong.

You know I had my reservations about what he was teaching and claiming before, but American History was not my strong point so I left my opinion open about if he got the facts remarkably wrong or just emphasized certain ones more than he should of, etc.

I will never ever assume he is remotely right again.

When he can't even bother to get Jeffs's name right, I have to even wonder how much he cares about the subject and if it is more about the show for him.

Oh wow.  How embarrassing for him.  I really hope that someone has contacted him let to him know where he can go to get the facts.  He really does not know church history, does he?  He did get a few things right though.

I used to enjoy listening to him on the radio years ago, but once he went on T.V., he just seemed to become more and more bizarre with his theories.  Too bad.

He is not an Apostle, but a talk show host. He is entitled to him opinion, but he is a good man...raw at times, but his heart is in the right place, though he does embellish at times too much.

Why don't a couple of you go on his website and send him an email doing just that... I would except my computer is not "safe" right now... maybe I'll go down to the library and try and do so on one of their computers.  I can access this site in the library... maybe I can access his site... But just to make sure, why don't you follow through?  It would be an act of kindness apparently...

You could do so in a positive attitude of help as a member...

You were assigned, it wasn't like you were like 'ya know - she's pretty hot - I'm going to marry her',  you were assigned.  You'd be called in and they'd say 'Brother Beck, widow school marm over there...' and you're like 'Oh no! Not a widow school marm please no...' It was your duty to take care of the family.

What the heck is he talking about?

What the heck is he talking about?

He is saying things that many Mormons believe about polygamy. I hear members of the church use this explanation quite often. He obviously hasn't done any of his own research on the topic.

Even good men can have some pretty whacky ideas.

I am sad that he knows so little about mormon history and yet he has access to such cool artifacts (if they are real). It seems like such a waste :)

Anyone who puts themselves up as a teacher needs to work harder at the knowledge side of things than the entertainment side.

Just reaffirmation. :air_kiss:

I'm sorry, just going through a tough time...dealing with Mama being gone is very hard. Though I am the baby of the family, they are all looking to me to deal with everything...were it not for my wife and kids I would have fallen apart. Edited by Bill “Papa” Lee

Most of the men were dead when polygamy started?  That was the whole reason??  This just makes us look duped.  One wonders where he gets his information.  If he can't the facts straight with his own religion...

To give him a tiny bit of credit, that did seem to happen at least once (kind of).  The one example that I know of deals with George Q. Cannon's sons.  One of his sons (David) was romantically involved with Lillian Hamlin when he died and George Q. Cannon wanted one of his other sons to marry her in a levirate marriage.  Frank apparently volunteered but George Q. Cannon didn't want Frank to do it so he asked Abram.  Page 19 in https://www.dialoguejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/sbi/articles/Dialogue_V43N04_483.pdf has some more details.

Glenn Beck a moron? Well I never.......

Now if everyone would treat everything he said with the disdain it deserves we could get him off the air and doing something more productive like ditch digging or Wal-Mart greeter where he belongs.

I couldn't make it past 2 min. I don't get how people enjoy this type of stuff.

I really don't think that Mr. Beck is remotely interested in the FACTS. The first few paragraphs of OD1 would have been enough to debunk his whole "The men were all dead or in the army, so we had to dole out the school marms" theory of Mormon polygamy. He clearly had no interest in letting pesky facts get in the way of his preferred narrative. I wonder if this is the first time that he's done such a thing ;)

Ironically, this was what a wonderful young missionary told me during my first session as an investigator. I love this young woman like my very own daughter and so I KNOW that she wasn't trying to deceive me. Folk lore dies hard.

Harder still when it is taught as fact for many many years.

I'll admit if I was watching as a non-member or even an uninformed member I would have heard that and thought, "wow polygamy isn't so bad".  Unfortunately it's just not true.  It's surprising that someone who reportedly enjoys reading history and reporting facts hasn't done his homework on such an important aspect of his church's history.
