Stargazer Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I can't believe I'm the first to proclaim my loathing of Christmas Shoes. Or is that one just too easy? Perhaps I am luckier than some, given the reactions of others upon this pronouncement, but I haven't ever so much as heard of this song, let along heard it. Or perhaps I have forgotten? Please don't post a link to a YouTube video -- I believe I wish to treasure my ignorance of this song.
Calm Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) Neither had I. I looked up the lyrics just to see what it was...don't want the music so hopefully won't recognize it on the radio if it plays and instead will just ignore it.Apparently it was released in 2000. bluebell Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Last night outside of Temple Square a guy was playing "Santa Baby" on the bagpipes. I gave him a dollar in all of you haters' honor. 3
strappinglad Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Bagpipes playing Santa Baby. OH ! the HORROR, the HORROR !!! 3
ERayR Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I like "Silent Night" a lot. I think the one I like least is "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer."
longview Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 a couple years ago I posted on Facebook the entire "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (at least 20 verses) . . . several people "liked" it . . .
Calm Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Eric Snyder would agree with you... Fifth reason it is the worst song ever: 5. The Guy Makes It All About Him: "I knew that God had sent me that little boy to remind me what Christmas is all about." After this whole emotional mess, a boy's mother is allegedly on her deathbed, the guy who had a couple extra bucks on him makes the message about what he learned. What happens to the kid? The mom? THE SHOES?! Over it! http://www.eonline.com/news/603554/5-reasons-christmas-shoes-is-the-worst-song-ever-written
Guest Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) Oh, but "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" was so much fun to sing in elementary school. I like "The First Noel". And remember a Christmas show about the young shepard boy, that I liked. I don't know why I link the two.I love "The First Noel" as well. Truth be told I love all things Christmas. I forgot to list another great song written out of despair..."I heard the bells on Christian day". The story behind this story is heartbreaking and tragic, and wonderful when you read or sing the song. Edited December 7, 2014 by Pa Pa
Rivers Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Last night outside of Temple Square a guy was playing "Santa Baby" on the bagpipes. I gave him a dollar in all of you haters' honor. That's the song that shouldn't be named. Remember?
Damien the Leper Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night" is my favorite. "Happy Holidays You *******" by Blink 182 is good also.I despise "A Few of My Favorite Things" despite loving The Sound of Music.
Tacenda Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Oh, and here is my favorite. It's the Christmas song of my childhood. In the category of recent songs, this is my favorite. I really like the whole album. And my least favorite is a song about annoying Christmas songs.(Okay, I lied. I like that last one too, but because it's an annoying song about annoying overplayed Christmas songs.)Shared your favorite, "Bandaid 1984" on FB, thanks for reminding me about this wonderful YouTube for charity!!
saemo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 To each, his or her own, Saemo. Maybe I'm just a sucker for sappiness, but I have always loved Little Drummer Boy. As the Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of the Universe, Christ doesn't need any of my puny, insignificant gifts or offerings, any more than He needed the Little Drummer Boy's modest performance. He can definitely do better than anything I might have to offer. As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland once said, "Imperfect, mortal, fallible human beings are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it." That said, the Little Drummer Boy's offering to God may not have been much in the eyes of some (after all, all he could do for the Savior was play his drum the best he could), but however imperfect or inadequate anything is that I might have to offer, I take Little Drummer Boy as God's assurance to me that even my puny, insignificant offerings are still acceptable to Him. My $0.02. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays! Yes, I like the meaning of the song. I don't like the song's repetitions. Same for 12 days of Christmas!
saemo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night" is my favorite.I have that CD and really like it. My favorite off it is Ave Maria. 1
saemo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) I discovered my new least favorite while shopping yesterday, Destiny Child's "8 Days of Christmas". Terrible. Edited December 7, 2014 by saemo
hagoth7 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) My favorite is Mary Did You Know - especially this rendition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifCWN5pJGIE Edited December 7, 2014 by hagoth7
Kenngo1969 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Here are a few of my thoughts on the matter. It's the movie I was thinking of when I said "The First Noel" on my post. Also, I like your choices of Christmas songs on your blog, especially like the ones from "The Forgotten Carols"! Have you seen that live? It's pretty good! 2

cinepro Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Here is a favorite from my childhood. You must be a little younger than me, because this is the Weird Al Christmas song from my childhood!
cinepro Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 And in the spirit of Nehor's post, here are some of my favorites that aren't remakes of well-known songs from the 1930s - 60s: Moody Blues - A Winter's Tale Barenaked Ladies - Hanakkuh Blessings John Denver - A Baby Just Like You Partridge Family - Christmas Card To You And bonus points if you can figure out who sings the verses on this one...
JDave Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Favorites: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, O Holy Night, Taladih Chriosda, Down In Yon Forest That last one I discovered a few years back and I have loved listening to it. When I went to search for it on YouTube I discovered that I disliked all the other versions out there. The linked version is the correct band, but it is live and not quite as nice as the album recording I have. Least Favorites: Baby It's Cold Outside, and that other unnamed song with the wrong 'Baby' in it, both of which are hard to get out of my head.
Rivers Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Anothet one of my favorites is Mary Did you Know. Here's great rendition. 1
Tacenda Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 You must be a little younger than me, because this is the Weird Al Christmas song from my childhood! You're making me feel old! This was so funny, I didn't realize how weird Weird Al was until seeing this for the first time! But it's a good weird!
