I missed the same bright colors on the women leaders now sitting front and center that made them them the focal point. This time their more somber colors blended into the sea of dark suits. The background floral arrangements are looking more like a tossed salad every passing conference. 1

The background floral arrangements are looking more like a tossed salad every passing conference. I have always though the large arrangement of green so close to the speakers indeed looks a salad. Does this make me anti-Mormon for agreeing?
Calm Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I agree with her too so hopefully not. It is so distracting to me, I can't really watch the speakers anymore but play solitaire instead….since I don't do videos that much anyway, it doesn't take much to push me...

My wife and I conjectured that Solitaire, Angry Birds, et al was the reason that they used a voiceover rather than subtitles for the native language speakers. Subtitles only really work if you are looking at the screen.
Rain Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Loved the color. Thought it was wonderful that the men had it. Women in the choirs have had it for a long time. When we sang for a regional choir several years ago they asked us to wear jewel tones. I've noticed that in the conferences since that if there is a local adult choir the women will be in those jewel tones.

Subtitles only really work if you are looking at the screen.I would look at the screen for that. I always go the subtitle way rather than dubbed on foreign shows. I prefer to hear to original emotion in the voice. 1

I had some strong opinions that rather surprised me, and I wonder if anyone else had the same ones. It was not specifically about the colors.

Rain Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 If it was the same for this conference as for regional then they tell the women to have black skirts, jewel toned long or 3/4 sleeved button up shirts, no jewelry, but if you must have it then no shiny jewelry. Purses must be very small and black, but they prefer no purse. I have wondered if the colors were off a little somehow because other colors in the conference center seemed a little bright as well, but I'm not sure how that would be as I always understood that to be a personal screen thing.

Well, yeh, that is the men of the Tabernacle Choir, with full orchestra. Just like Bayreuth, except in English translation.

I'm not sure what would be a better option though. As for the women's dresses in the motab choir, they aren't attractive but I think that style is really the only option. When you have so many women of such different sizes (including bust size), trying to find one dress everyone fits into would be very difficult. You're pretty much only left with the sheath type dresses.

Both serve to establish cultural expectations and definitions but we can freely admit they aren't stylish or becoming separated from their cultural purpose. We don't disrespect them by doing so.

If not, may I suggest it for the next conference as a nod to ecumenical outreach. Also I can't wait to see Sis Knight lead the choir in a rousing rendition of " When the Saints..." . At the very least it should be done on their next album. 2
