VideoGameJunkie Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Mine is exactly 2 pages, while a close friend's is only 1 page so I'm curious how long everyone else's is.
Storm Rider Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Patriarchal blessings vary in length. If you look at early copies they are quite short and really only focus on identifying being a member of the House of Israel or a specific tribe of Israel. As the practice became more established and the numbers of patriarchs increased we see more lengthy blessings. I have seen them being anywhere from 3/4 quarters of a page to several pages in length. The only real purpose or function of the blessing remains the identification of tribal affiliation; everything after that is just creme. Regardless of the length of your blessing, use it; read it often and contemplate on what it says. There are rare occasions where a second blessing is sought and given. This is certainly not a norm nor should it become such.
HairBear Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Mine is about a page and a half, but that page and a half contains a lot
JLHPROF Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Just shy of 2 pages (abt 1 3/4). There are rare occasions where a second blessing is sought and given. This is certainly not a norm nor should it become such. It should be pointed out that our definition of a "patriarchal blessing" has changed a bit. They used to be more like in scripture where the patriarchs called together their offspring and pronounced special blessings upon them.Joseph naturally called his own father as the first Patriarch to the Church under this pattern. But if you have the opportunity, you can always request a "father's blessing" either from a parent or priesthood leader for guidance. This is basically just a different type of patriarchal blessing.
Duncan Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 About 3.5 what? oh man!!! Lucky!!! I have always wanted a new one, mine doesn't make much sense in key areas of life
Guest Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Mine is exactly 2 pages, while a close friend's is only 1 page so I'm curious how long everyone else's is.Same with mine 2 pages...one line came true in a big way.
Shizfan Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 My father is/was first cousins with the late James E. Faust and told me that "Jimmy's" (as my father called him) blessing was one short paragraph. Just thought that was interesting. Maybe my dad was trying to teach me that patriarchal blessings are good but won't tell the full story about a person. Mine was 1 page and a bit. 1
Rain Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 In our family we have one that is 2 full pages. One that is 1 3/4 pages. One that is 2/3 or less than a page. They all fit each of us well and no one need worry about having the short one.
VideoGameJunkie Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 I guess a Patriarch does say some similar things in most patriarchal blessings, like the same phrases at some points. My brother's had some similar sayings as mine and we had the same person give it.

Stargazer Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Mine is a little hard to measure, as it was given in England, and it was typed on what is called "foolscap"-sized paper. I think it might come to a page and a half of 8.5x11. Or maybe 1 3/4.
VideoGameJunkie Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 Duncan, I wonder that too. But my blessing does have important things directed towards me so I know it's from Heavenly Father.
Jeanne Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Mine was about 4 pages long. My close friend and cousin could have been a duplicate.
