I am new here, and a new Mormon as well, and I was wondering, what exactly is a "mon" and why is there more of it?

I just want to understand my new faith.

Peace out brothers.

Hello Dontro,

I sincerely hope you are not a lame troll attempting to make a mockery of our faith. HOWEVER, if that was a genuine question then tradition has taught us over many years that the Book of Mormon was so named for Mormon, the main abridger .In Mormon 1:5 Mormon identifies his lineage. He states that he is a descendant of Nephi and that his father’s name was Mormon. However, he does not state that he was named after his father and this should not be assumed. In fact, he tells us in Third Nephi 5:12 that he was not named after his father, but rather he was named after the land in which a great event took place—the restoration of Christ’s covenant people, Christ’s church.

From what I heard, Joseph, the third son of David, was the heir to Nephi's throne, and that is why David came across the divine power of the Book of Mormon, but I could be wrong, again, I'm new.

Also, while on the topic of Mormon, does it have any relation to pokémon?

because I get slightly offended playing that game, it feels like a mock, is this just me though?

Hell Dontro,

I am sick and tired of little 13 year boys trying to have some fun on a Mormon social website, trying to have some laughs at the funny Mormons. Well GUESS WHAT....... DON'T MESS WITH ME. I am mormon and proud of it and I DO NOT appreciate people like you trying to make a fallacy of this beautiful religion. I will ban you and track your I.P address, find out your home town and send a very concerned to your mother (who obviously hasn't done a very good job raising you)

I will leave you with a passage from The Book of Mormon:

“But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.”

1 Nephi 1:20

Regards, Hashim.

Maybe I'm not understanding your question....are you asking why we are called mormons...?

Jazz, it looks like everyone in this thread is a troll and just pretending to be mormon. It happens here sometimes.

For some reason some people think that if they come on here and pretend to be mormon and then ask for help/act naive or odd, it reflects badly on real Mormons if they believe them and try to help.

Obviously it says way more about them than it does about Mormons, but most such posters are too young or immature to realize that. The best thing to do is to ignore them until the mods can handle it. :)

I didn't even understand your question in the first place... but second, I agree with others... you must be an immature little troll who is set upon mocking us weird Mormons... too bad... if you stick around, you might learn something beautiful.  While I find troll antics laughable... and a little sad... I bear them, nor you, any ill will... so I'll just wish you a good day...

I too would love to understand & celebrate my faith

The first thing you should know is that writing in large, purple font can get you excommunicated.

For those who want to learn, this will take you a long way in a short amount of time:

Hair length...there is no rule, I've know a number of LDS men with long enough hair to tie back.  The key for me (but this applies to everyone, not just members...) is that the hair is neat and tidy, male or female.

However, if you want to look like the majority of LDS men, hair cut short enough so it's not on the collar is typical in the US and at least part of Canada.  It may vary in other countries.

see here for usages of "Mormon" in the scriptures:

As a take-off on a question Nehor asked on another thread, do trolls giggle like the Pilsbury Dough Boy when you poke their tummies?  I'd really like to find out! :D
