bluebell Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 How does this apply to Mormonism?(Not trying to be snarky. I'm just not sure I'm understanding the point of the thread and need some clarification.)
cinepro Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Do you have more info on this? Why isn't it "good" for Phoenix?

I'm just not sure I'm understanding the point of the thread and need some clarification.)Because the Acts 29 Reformed groups are some of the most bitterly hostile anti-Mormons I have ever come into contact. They'll not be of good service or charitable to the LDS population here. I can only imagine what they'll be like at the Christmas lights and Easter Pageant.
Damien the Leper Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Do you have more info on this? Why isn't it "good" for Phoenix?I'll look for more info on the Acts 29 theological beliefs and post when possible.

I wonder if the high percentage of LDS people in the Phoenix area was one of the reasons they are trying to build a church there?

I wonder if the high percentage of LDS people in the Phoenix area was one of the reasons they are trying to build a church there?I'm not sure. I know of a few Acts 29 Reformed churches in the area who have made a few ripples in the water. And have made their presence known but nothing overly worth talking about. Although, I did give the Mesa Temple VC a heads up about Apologia Church going to the temple to witness on the the temple grounds. About a week later, I was at the temple with some family and encountered some Acts 29ers and I chose to engage them as they tried witnessing to other attendees. Needless to say, that group didn't like me running interference. I was proud to do it. 4
boblloyd91 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 From what little I know, Mark Driscoll is their "star" pastor, and he has gained considerable publicity these last few years. I read snippets of a sermon he gave called "God hates you" I also know that he wrote a controversial book about Christians and sex, where he talked about some pretty crude ways that the wife should make her husband happy. Finally, he was very much in arms about the Twilight series, and believes that the Angel Moroni was really a demon. So yeah, I don't know what's going to happen. I live in Utah so I won't see the effects.

Is integrity has been called into question as well in a 14 page document by Jonna Petrey concerning his church ethics.
urroner Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Ditto...GGAnd for those of you who missed what Cal had to say, let me repeat it strongly and loudly And don't make me repeat it.Edit: The first time I saw Cal's comment, the little smiley didn't show up and it looked like she said nothing, and them GG just quoted her saying nothing. So I post this and now I look like an idiot. Thanks Cal and GG. Edited July 31, 2013 by urroner 2

Even though gnats are no threat to life and limb, it is still irritating to have to swat at them all the time. I'm sure your assurance of friendlieness towards other denominations, specifially ours, would we welcome news on this board. 1

Does your church possibly think mormons need help because they might be going to hell for believing in a different Jesus or that they should believe in Grace alone without their works saving them? Or contributing? Because that's usually what the EV's try to do

halconero Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Hey Valentius, do you know what part of Phoenix they're setting up shop in?Please don't say the northern half of Glendale, Peoria or Scottsdale. Those poor Elders have enough grief coming from CCV as it is.

Those poor Elders have enough grief coming from CCV as it is.I don't know exactly where they are planting. CCV and Don Wilson, the lead pastor, are an ongoing joke for many LDS and Catholics in town. On 3 campuses they boast more than 20,000 members. Just another megachurch disaster.I'm sure in some way CCV will be taking more hits from the Acts 29ers than they already have as soon as Mars Hill begins its occupation. They come close to being heterodox and are a far cry from orthodoxy.

Thus far, I have yet to see a truly Calvinist church. Not that I want that flavor of heresy running amock.

It seems, for such group, that some people start to live for the fight-they want to 'win' the argument at whatever the cost-and collateral damage becomes an acceptable sacrifice to serve that end.And sometimes the collateral most damaged are the things the person most loves.Edit to add: Mormons are not immune to this syndrome either. The biggest difference is that when a Mormon does this, it's generally coming from a personal place, whereas when members of certain other churches do this, it's because it's a part of the teachings and mission of the institution or church they are a member of Edited July 31, 2013 by bluebell
