What is the difference, other than historic time, between the ancient Catholic Church and the Catholic Church of today?

Well, for one, you guys aren't sending out armies with the blessing and support of the Roman government to quell dissent and end what is considered heresy, and you guys aren't banishing people from their homelands anymore for going against Councils, and you don't have massive political power and influence as it once was, and I haven't heard any stories about bishops flogging their junior clergy upon points of disagreement or sending them in to overturn various other churches that have differences of theological opinion, of late, so I would say there are considerable differences.

That's some stuff to think about.

Well, I'm still going with the beast being earthly kingdoms. This could mesh with the modern Gadiantons idea. So, I don't see a conflict with those two ideas. I doubt it has anything to do with the Catholic Church (currently). Although, I could be pursuaded to believe they are being infiltrated by Gadiantons.

Then I wonder what the heads are. Is it just supposed to mean that it is a "fearsome beast" or do they refer to some function (7 nations and 10 war machines)? For example, NATO has their own military machine (in an organizational sense) as well as the military of each nation. NO, I am not saying NATO is the beast. I'm just using an illustration to explain the theory.

That would mean that the Gadiantons have taken control of these 7 nations. One head being wounded and healed would be one nation falling and coming back. But why would that be considered miraculous to the point where people would worship the Gadiantons?

I keep coming back to points that don't line up. That's the trouble I'm having. Similar things happen when I use earlier empires to explain the theory. The seven hills doesn't make sense. Did a hill get destroyed and become healed, the people began to worship the nation or empire? Don't think so.

The Beast Is God.

Translated in bold: "The Beast (GOD)" with 7 heads(7=Those OF GOD, Including Jesus) and 10 horns(The Ten Messangers (Angels) OF GOD). The Beast (GOD) is "earthly kingdoms controlled by Satan(HER world, controlled mostly by satan)" (Chapter heading injecting additional words from JST).

One of the heads (Jesus 1st) is wounded to death, and is healed. (v. 3).

Then v. 3 continues to say "and all the world wondered (When the world learns that GOD IS ACTUALLY female)" after the beast(GOD).

Definitely the first beast does represent earthly kingdoms. But remember that not all of Revelation concerns the future and that not all of it addresses our future. Much of it addresses the past and present to John and what was shortly to begin coming to pass for John, some of which was immediate future to John and which would therefore become past to us. Beware of the Hal Lindsey mentality to take all elements of Revelation to be future and nothing but. As I have written above, I sincerely hope that you are not one of those who are looking for the coming of antichrist. As John made clear, antichrist already came and he identified them as individuals living in his own day, the day of the last hour. (See again 1 John 2:18-19).

I would like to know why Revelation is being pluralized by certain individuals.

I think this thread set a record, it wasn't until the fourth page that someone finally mentioned that the book's title is singular, not plural.

I have never understood why there would be stuff in the bible about alpaca lips anyway.

I guess the beast must be the alpaca, but I don't know why its lips are so special.

I was just wondering what his criteria was, if he was distinguishing between two churches or the same church in different times.

You have to realize that the way the LDS view the early/ancient Church is a bit different than the way we do :)

Yes, I'm aware. But I'd been staring at words for about four hours in studying these few chapters, only seeing the abbreviation "Rev" a million times.

So, I'M SORRY!!! Does that make you happy? Sheesh!

Yunno, one of the biggest gripes I have about this site is people spending valuable bandwidth on trifles that don't matter while the meaning was clear to anyone who cares. And if you don't care, why are you reading and responding to the thread? Did you know which book I was referring to? Then what difference does it make? I'm not about to start a "Change the names of the Bible" campaign.
