Re-watched La La Land with my 86-year-old mom last night, who hadn’t seen it because my late father wasn’t interested. She loved it, both because of the way it updates classic musicals and for its use of LA locales that reminded her of her youth. (I loved it, too.)

Stars Ryan Gosling (there’s your LDS connection) and Emma Stone. Rated PG-13 for a couple of swears. All in all, a lovely, enjoyable film.

I need to re-watch that, since the first time I wasn't happy with it, maybe I had too high of hopes for it. I'll give it another chance, sweet that your mom got to watch it with her dear son!

A Rough Sketch for a Proposed Film Dealing with the Powers of Ten and the Relative Size of Things in the Universe (1968)

My mom worked a doz blocks north of the National Mall. In the summer I'd ride in with her and disappear until it was time to go home. The Air & Space museum opened on my 10th birthday and had this film playing in a room at the east end of the main walkway. I was mesmerized by it, watching it repeatedly until I got shooed away. Next day I'd be back and so my grade school summers went. Also sneaking around the Capitol or any building at all I could get into. 10yo's didn't get arrested for exploring in the 1970s.

They remade it in 1977 but without Judith Bronowski's hypnotic narration it wasn't the same.

Love this Chum! My husband and I went on vacation to Washington D.C. or we stayed in a place in Virginia so had little time there and missed going to the National Mall. Love your memories and experiences wandering there during summertime!

I've never watched it! Perhaps I should.

I enjoyed the "Fried Green Tomatoes" repartee that occurred after your post. Evidently there's a lot of fans of the film.

One film I like to rewatch is "Fifth Element". Really weird film, makes no sense whatsoever, but I love it.

It’s on Netflix in the states right now. Maybe it’s on there in the UK too, if you have Netflix.

Yes, we have Netflix, and we've seen it recently!

Okay, I feel pretty confident that the majority of you will love this film as much as I! Very worthy of you all's time!

I think I'm speaking like those in the movie haha! But believe me, it will move most people.

"The Hill", true story of Rickey Hill. All the hurdles and this kid just kept going and it is a truly moral story for all to see. It's on Netflix, but maybe elsewhere too. If anything else, the acting was amazing.

I keep wanting to watch it again.  I have wanted to watch it with my husband again, but the first time around he ended up with a massive panic attack right after it.  I've hoped by watching and being ok it would help him in some ways, but if it stresses him then it could be worse for him.  I probably should just watch it again without him.

I sat down to watch TV just now, and Fried Green Tomatoes just came on, on the channel I just happened to have it on.  I grabbed a snack, and I’m settled in the recliner with my electric throw. 😁

Did the movie bring on the panic attack? Well, the second time watching I liked it better, hopefully that would be his case minus the panic attack.

Sounds cozy! The second time around I paid more attention to the details and do love how they go back and forth from the past to the future. :)

A film we watched a bit ago: "About Time".

It's a British time-travel chick flick, and I mean that in the best way possible. I really enjoyed it, and my wife loves it. It's on her "rewatch frequently" list. The time-travel aspect is important to the plot, but it makes absolutely no use of CGI.

I hesitate to post the trailer here, because the trailer has a few spicy scenes that of course occur in the film. The film itself has an R rating in the US, but I wouldn't call it a "hard R."

One part of the film that caused us to watch it was that the two protagonists meet on a blind date in London -- I mean, a really blind date, in which they have dinner in the Dans le Noir restaurant. This is a restaurant where you eat in complete darkness and you can't see a doggoned thing. Seriously! The waitstaff are either blind or very visually impaired. You have to be led to your table by holding hands with another member of your party, who holds hands with a guide. Anyway, my wife and I went to that same restaurant in London a few months ago, so we could relate. In the film, there are a couple of little lights (like tiny LEDs of some sort), but in the actual restaurant nothing of the kind can be seen.

The film made me cry! In a good way.

Is it the one with Rachel McAdams? Looks good, I'll try to find it!

Yep, that's the one. Apparently, she also was in a similar role in "The Time Traveler's Wife," which I've never seen.

"The Vow", good every time I watch it. :)

That's a good one.  Especially since it's based on a true story.

Watched Lift on Netflix.  It's got Kevin Hart in it and for once it's not a comedic role.  It's incredibly 'heist-by-the-numbers' though and has a fast and the furious meets mission impossible meets Red Notice feel that is way to over done.

The story makes no sense and you don't really care who lives or dies.  If you have netflix and are bored and like that genre of film then it might be mildly entertaining.  Otherwise, skip it.

I tried the new Mr and Mrs Smith. I won’t finish. Not a fun show. Boring with unlikeable characters.

That is disappointing.
