I very much enjoyed the Dungeons and Dragons movie.

I want to see it!  It looks like good fun.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Took my kid to go see this over the weekend and I walked away feeling a lot like I did after watching Ready Player One.

On the plus side, the animation and soundtrack were good, and it was fun to see all sorts of video game Easter eggs scattered throughout the film - lots of good nostalgia there.

On the minus side, however, the storyline was pretty meh. Definitely not one I would want to watch again.

To be fair though, unlike RPO which was directed by Stephen Spielberg and should have been great (but wasn't), the Mario Bros. movie is actually a kids movie, so at least you kind of go into the theater knowing it might not be great (which it wasn't), but hey - there's always a chance they could pull a Toy Story 2 on you and knock it out of the park (though again, they didn't).

RPO is the most disappointing movie I’ve seen in decades.

I'm thinking of pretty much any installment in the Marvel "Cinematic" Universe.

Spider Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are the possible (partial) exceptions, but almost everything else takes itself way too seriously for a comic book film.

I both agree and disagree with you (if they took themselves more seriously, there would be more focus on story and social issues and less on fight scenes and cool graphics).  Instead we get pretty boring, shallow stories most of the time.

Hollywood can't keep trying to spend a year to rewrite a bunch of better written books into poorly written films vaguely based on the book. Mining IPs for ideas or as a springboard for their own poorly written stories and characters. Rings of Power, Marvel Cinamatic Universe Phase 4, Star Wars, Star Trek, Resident Evil, Terminator Dark Fate, Halo.

The worst must be Eragon, it was okay as a film, until you discover how it was ruined by mutating the story so much that there could never be a sequel, the because the later books are about things they not merely removed, but radically altered. Why did they switch up which character got wounded at the end, when the next book in about that wounded character....

Saw Dungeons and Dragons and second what everyone else has said about it.  It was fun and entertaining and didn't take itself to seriously.  I also liked that there was no real romantic focus, which was different than most movies and stood out to me.

There were a few parts of the story that didn't make a lot of sense--though the fat dragon was movie gold--and the main character didn't have much dad chemistry going for him so that relationship felt a little hollow, but over all two thumbs up.

I just watched ‘Ghosted.’ Not a serious spy show. But, good for a few hours of brainless entertainment. Just wanted to add it's more a romantic comedy with spies. Completely unrealistic but not meant to be.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Overall, I thought it was a fun movie and delivered a good (albeit imperfect) ending for the trilogy. And I really liked some of the choices for the soundtrack. Creep, No Sleep Til Brooklyn, and Dog Days are Over were all highlights in the film.

I'm not a fan of the new Groot-suit personally, but my kid actually prefers it to the original, so I guess they do their market research at least.

Should be interesting to see what Gunn does now that he's finished with Marvel and moving over to run the DC Universe.

I read this morning that Netflix decided to cancel Lockwood and Co..

I’m sad. That was actually a fun series. I think that networks are too quick to cancel their new releases. I’ve gotten so jaded that half the time I refuse to watch anything until it’s at least been around for three seasons. It’s so frustrating when they end a season on a cliffhanger and then don’t renew.

A Quiet Place Part II

Not as good as the first film, but still really enjoyable - provided, of course, that you are able to look past the obvious plot holes surrounding the monsters.

If you are able to put those out of your mind until after the credits roll, you should have a good time.

Unless you don't like scary movies in the first place, in which case maybe take a pass on this series. Personally, I think that it's one of the better suspense / thriller movies out there to recommend which carries a PG-13 rating.

I've been on a documentary/docu-series kick lately and Hulu has had some interesting ones.

I finished one on Hillsong (a pentecostal megachurch that you might remember hearing in the news last year when the main pastor in New York was kicked out for having an affair).  The story behind that church is much deeper than I realized and it was interesting to see the some of the main players humanized.  It's got three or four episodes (I don't remember exactly) and I thought it was really interesting.

I also just finished watching the 20/20 special "prisoners of the snow" documentary on the Uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the Andes mountains in 1972 and were trapped there for over 70 days (at around 12,000) before two of them climbed/walked 37 miles out to get help.  There's a book and a movie about this experience (the movie came out in the 90s I think and is excellent) called Alive.  I've read the book and seen the movie multiple times (I find survivor stories fascinating) and this documentary really adds a lot to the story that most of us are already familiar with.  It's largely comprised of the words of the survivors themselves.  Out of the 16 that were rescued, 15 are still alive.

I'm interested in the upcoming docuseries about the Duggar family and their religion, it's going to be on Amazon Prime on June 2nd. It's called, 'Shiny, Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets'.

Yes!  I saw that and it looks really interesting too.

Anyone watching Citadel on Prime?  It's another spy/action series.  Tis the season for them I guess.

I started. A little behind.

I'm only on episode 3.  So far it's entertaining but also kind of same old/same old.  It's like a mission impossible mini series with all the fancy science, but otherwise just another spy thriller.  I guess we'll see what the rest of the season holds.

From a different angle, I was excited to see it rated at TV 14 but there have been so many F words in the last two episodes that I'm not sure what the even means anymore.  No frontal nudity?

It's basically what fart use to be, I still have trouble saying that even, or hearing it.

Same here.  It just sounds ugly to me.

I dropped out after episode two. I like a couple of the actors in it though (e.g., Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci), so if it ends up picking up be sure to post back.

I've quit other shows early before that ended up being good in the end.

Episode 3 got interesting again at the end (with a twist I didn't see coming) so I'll go back for the next one.  I'm still not sure how much I like it overall though.  Episode three included some fancy spy tech and buildings that were so unbelievable they made the story seem childish (if that makes sense).

That's not an attractive word, but it's hard for me to see it as the equivalent to the F word.

I don’t see it as a bd word at all, but still saying it creeps me out, lol.
