JFK files declassified

By executive order, earlier today (1-23-2025) President Trump declassified the government's files on the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr.  Martin Luther King, Jr.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/23/politics/jfk-assassination-files-trump/index.html

I wish my father could have seen this day, and the analysis that presumably will be forthcoming.  He was a surgeon experienced in head trauma at the time and somebody (I don't know who) showed him the x-rays of JFK's skull and asked for his opinion.  His assessment was that the shot clearly came from in front, so he never bought into the Warren Commission's conclusions.

Could be interesting then.  :)

Would presidents have had access to these files?  Seriously, if I was ever foolish enough to somehow get elected (like it’s even a possibility, ultimate absurd thought experiment), I’d be checking out the files with all the conspiracy claims attached.

Give it a shot!  Imo more absurd things have happened within fairly recent memory.

(To the mods:  Maybe I'm talking about Will Smith instead of trying to sneak a toe across the "no politics" red line!)

In spite of the fact that your father was a surgeon experienced in head trauma, you’ve got me wondering if he was unaware of the fact that when a bullet first enters a scull the entry wound is usually quite small and round, but when the bullet exits the opposite side of the head the wound is normally quite large and irregular, like the effects of an explosion. I’ve seen demonstrations of this phenomenon again and again — small ‘clean’ wound in, large gaping wound out.

Most people without a knowledge of these facts would likely mistakenly presume that the large gaping wound at the front of President Kennedy’s head was the entry point of the assassin’s bullet, but it wasn’t. I’ve seem the autopsy photos of Kennedy’s head wounds, and sure enough the small entry wound is at the back of his head and the large irregular wound is at the front of his head, indicating that the fatal shot came from behind.

It’s also most interesting to note that due to the explosive outward force of the exit wound the head will usually jerk backward in the same direction from whence the bullet came, and this is exactly what happened when the president received the shot that killed him. Here’s a link to an article that explains why these counterintuitive phenomena occur.

https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/why-is-exit-wound-in-a-rifle-gun-shot-injury-bigger-than-entry-wound.694102/

And here’s a rather poor quality autopsy photo that shows the small entry wound at back President Kennedy’s head…

@teddyaware, I respect you and your opinion, and would rather not have that debate here.

But don’t most people have a knowledge of this based on plenty of crime shows?  I have never shot a gun in my life or want to and I have known it for ages.

I imagine, as it is all part of modern history. There is a genuine interest in these files being released.

Oliver Stone's 1991 movie JFK convinced me it wasn't Oswald.

Well, I would vote for you!

Strangely the President has shown no enthusiasm for releasing those files.

It is a mystery…….

Of course you'd say that. The implication being... you know.

And while it is true that after he said he was going to "lock her up" in connection with a former political competitor, strangely, he never even tried.

But Newsweek reports:

"Attorney General Pam Bondi has indicated that a list of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's clients will be released. President Donald Trump "has given a very strong directive, and that's going to be followed," Bondi told conservative commentator Benny Johnson when asked about the release of the list in an interview that he posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday."

So perhaps your implication falls flat on its face? We'll see.

And we'll see this thread shut down posthaste, too, no doubt.

It's common knowledge, and uncharacteristically, as the case with some "common knowledge" that isn't actually knowledge, happens to be true.

And I'd love to take you out shooting sometime! You might find it to be fun! The logistics at this time argue against this, unfortunately.

My husband has offered.  I think it would be fun, but be too noisy as I have never used ear protectors that were sufficient for my sensitivity even as a teen and with ear plugs (one of my summer jobs required an occasional all day stint at a press that had a high pitch squeal along with other loud noises, the headset was quite effective for any talking or any background noise, but still painful for me when using the press).  My tinnitus is loud enough as it is.  Any worse and it will start interfering with sleep.  Plus I suspect with the way my brain works, anxiety levels would go up as guns become more real to me.  I have never even see them fired except on a screen, so even though I have held them, they read more decorative than dangerous in person.  Which is fine by me.  I have enough anxiety triggers already, like any billboard or sign for insurance or banks due to hassles taking care of Mom’s expenses.  You would think I would get used to them as there is an insurance building that I pass anytime I get in a car…and yet no.  Ways my mind likes to maliciously play with me. ;)

Yes, I know how that works. I am unsure when mine started kicking in, but it's possible that a couple of loud rock concerts back in the 70s and my military service (first infantry then field artillery) were probably the ultimate cause. In the Army they made us wear ear protection when at the range or flying in aircraft (because they don't have as good sound insulation as commercial). But once I was driving our jeep across from an artillery battery when one of the guns let loose. Oh my gosh! We weren't behind the battery, but in front, and it was beyond mere loud -- it was piercing. When I was discharged they checked my hearing (routinely) and I had lost some of my high-frequency response, but not enough to warrant any compensation.

I might have a little trouble getting to sleep due to the tinnitus, but most of my problem is my ADD, which likes to send me off into thinking about everything. So I listen to an Audible book, but one of the many I've listened to so many times that I could almost repeat them word for word. This is so that my conscious self isn't paying attention, because it already knows the book, but it does seem to catch my ADD's attention, and it let's me go off into dreamland. That's my theory, anyway. I usually am asleep before more than two or three paragraphs go by. The downside to this is that because I wear an in-ear headphone (because my wife definitely doesn't want to listen to my book!), the novel is still playing when I'm asleep and after an hour or two the story very occasionally intrudes into my dreams and it's almost like I'm in the novel! Fortunately I don't read horror novels (mostly science fiction), or else this might send me into some very bad dreams!

I found listening to a foreign language works better than English because my mind still reaches out to grab English words even when I am very familiar with the text.  Works best with some music in the background, so I find series online and do autoplay for an hour or so.  Music is needed because the ringing lands into it more, but just music is too variable.  I have tested a number of languages and find the best two are Korean and French, with Korean beating out French as a bit more mind unanchoring, maybe because it’s less fair or French shows tend to like too much excitement and raise voices too much…or could be the music background.  Hadn’t thought of the last till now, might text it one day.

I'm not sure how my brain would react to a foreign language background listen. But I'm curious, so where do you get your Korean series from?

Yeah, we’ll see. He walked back that one more than once.

I do what you do and listen mostly to audible books as well, with ear buds. And my one ear hurts from them being in my ear along with getting caught up in the wires. So dumb that it's the only way I can fall asleep, and do as you do and listen but soon fall asleep only having to re listen over and over again. But do remember many years ago of listening to talk shows like, "Sally Jessy Raphael", late at night using some old radio device too.

And in between those years having to read books right before bed, but now my eyes bother me too much to read books much in bed. So listening helps.

I have a strong feeling his relationship with Epstein, or the bad parts, will never come to light unless after his presidency or death, if that's the case.

Viki, though there are a lot on Netflix.

I can see a reason for walking it back. Inquiring minds want to know and all that, but I think that Epstein had his claws into too many people on both sides of the aisle, and that information could be generally devastating, and not just to one side alone. The one person I don't think he had his claws into was the president himself. Because if he were on the list, I don't think he would have even suggested releasing it.

As you say, we'll see.
