"What Child Is This?" was in prior hymnbooks?

Gethsemane is a new children's song copyrighted in 2018.  Is this list talking about a different Hymn?

Updates for new songbook

Might have to wait and see which ones got removed.

Issues that are being resolved with the new collection include:
Inconsistency in music offerings across languages spoken by members of the Church.
Doctrinal inaccuracies, culturally insensitive language, and limited cultural representation of the global Church.
Licensing limitations for music publishing, particularly impacting digital use.
Hymns that have fallen into disuse and can be retired to make way for other music that will be more valued.
Unaddressed gospel principles in our current collections.
Hymns that many members find are too difficult to sing or play.

The new hymns include primary and adult songs (as I understand it they can all be sung in sacrament meeting).  Gethsemane is the same hymn that the primary has been singing for a few years.

Gethsemane is the favorite song of a lot of our primary children.  It's not one that "came back" from the older song book though because it is so new.  That's why I was wondering if the one from this list was another Gethsemane hymn.

These can’t be the only non original songs that are being used surely?  Just the ones so far approved and are ready for use?

From the dates of the songs, it looks like some have come back and some are brand new.  And of course, Summer from other religious traditions that we didn’t previously used to sing.

They are releasing them in batches. But I thought the first batch would have more than 13 songs.

Maybe people were so impatient and tons asking about them, they early released….because that is odd.

But could be a marketing ploy to get people excited and invested in the change perhaps?

As in if one and done release, people might focus on favorites that are missing.  Here they can get excited about what has been released and will put off complaining because their hoped fors could still be coming.  That way they have a number of positive experiences and only one negative at the end when all hope is squashed.

I am assuming there will be more. From the website:
"The review and selection of music is expected to be completed early in 2025.
At that point, all submitters will be notified at the same time of the status of their pieces.
The Church leaders and committees involved in the project are grateful for all those who have made contributions to the hymnbook project in any way."

My family has been singing Star Bright on Christmas Eve for like 40 years now.

We are surprised and delighted to see it on the list!

In fact, the last language to receive the 1985 hymnbook got it in December of 2022. It was Mongolian, if you’re interested.”

The challenge with the new hymnbook project is that the First Presidency challenged the committee to translate it into 50 languages by 2030.

“That’s six years from now,” Krenicky said. “Think about that compared to the last hymnbook. When we talk about ‘what’s taking so long,’ this is actually monumentally fast.”

I love that they are committed to getting it translated so quickly to all those languages.

Krenicky said the church’s fonts are named after prophets, so the new font designed for the new hymnbook is called McKay Neue, or the new McKay, as in President David O McKay.

“It is designed to help people with dyslexia or poor eyesight to read it better at small sizes,” Krenicky said. “It has a taller X height — the top of the letter or the size of the X — so as you’re looking at a book from this far away, you’re better able to discern what those different letters are.”

Bravo…I had gotten to the point where with or without my glasses, stuff is blurry (one of my eyes is misbehaving and it seems my glasses can’t keep up, but I am used to having to change them every ten years so yearly is hard as it takes that long to decide what frame I want).
