Just seeing what everyone is up to. I haven't been on much over the past year and a half.

As for myself, I literally just submitted my completed thesis for a Master in Public Policy. It was on refugee housing affordability in Calgary. Turns out it sucks unless you have tons of babies and get child benefits. Then it only moderately sucks.

I'm also the regional organizer for a provincial political party in Alberta, mostly focused on recruiting and opening up nominations for candidates in prep for the 2019 provincial election. I'm also one of the leads for Global Shapers, the young professional wing of the World Economic Forum (secretly plotting with globalists for the (((takeover))) of the world by the gay-Muslim-Democrat-liberal-communist-antifa alliance). Currently serving as the exec sec for my YSA ward, and dating a lovely convert of about 6 months. Exploring post-grad school work options, as it's time for me to move on from my old job in the in the immigrant non-profit sector.

Ohhhh. Right up my alley. I have been working with an organization that collects household items from the community and then sets up apartments  for newly arriving refugees.

I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the US the refugees need to pay for their plane tickets here through loans. The goverment requires that certain household items are in their homes - which also needs to be paid back. Then they are given a small amount of money to live on for the first 3 months. During those months they are given job finding, language etc classes so they do not have a lot of time to get a job and be settled before they need to start paying on the loan.

Our organization works with the resettlement agencies to provide as much of the household stuff we can. We have a warehouse full of the donations and when an agency tells us a family is coming in we pull the stuff and then go into the apartment and have everything set up and ready. We've been told by one of the agencies that through it the community has provided so much that they are able to help the families for twice as long as they had been doing.

We definitely know about affordability of housing. The apartments are chosen in areas that really need help, because they are less expensive than other places around the valley. Yet when you think about a single African woman who came here with no English, little or no education or job training and 7 kids, you have to know that affordability is more of a dream than reality.

I hope things go well with your lovely convert. :)

My calling right now is wolf den leader.

I began completing all the novels and non-fiction I had up until then kept in boxes; putting them up on Amazon.  I started teaching piano.  My first and only grandson turned one, and I went and spent time with him.  My fifth child graduated high school and left on his mission, will be in the Philippines very soon (MTC at the moment).  Now I just have the tail end (13 year old son) at home.  I also film almost every day for my YouTube channel.  Those are the highlights.  There's something unique every day.  Today I helped my friend who is a refugee languishing in Indonesia (because countries are not accepting refugees anymore at the rate they used to) write his story--he wrote it, I polished it up.  We've been working on it a while, but I finished one article-sized portion of it, submission ready, today.  Other than that, gonna head to Subway for a sandwich in a bit, ha ha.

Hello halconero...

This is my 28th year of being retired... I'm now 78 years old and aging physically more quickly than I had hoped... I can only garden lightly and mostly in containers. not the work I used to love... and my hands can't hold my paintbrushes so painting has been curtailed for the most part...

I have several health issues, thankfully controlled by meds... I'm so blessed with a health care package as part of my retirement.  The cost of a couple of my meds is obscene... What do little  old people do that don't have good coverage.

I still live at the beach, but arthritis has taken hold and I miss being able to run along the shore... or even walk miles.  But I find joy in taking a good book, finding a log (away from the shoreline) to lean against as I soak in the sunshine, and listen to the cries of the gulls as they soar overhead, and watch the shorebirds scamper ahead of the incoming waves as they roll up on the shore...

I'm still self-sustaining and able to be active in Church... TBM as ever...  somehow I'm never bored... I'm blessed with peace and contentment.  Glad to see you here and hear how you are.  All good wishes...

from the beach on a lovely day that feels like fall... GG

Daughter's doing ECT which helps with her depression, but not much else; Mom just got moved into assisted living so shortly I will have no excuse for not being in an exercise routine and eating something besides five minute or less meals.

Other than that, not much has changed.  Hoping lots will this next year now the heat of summer is waning (thankfully not too many days cursing Utah and longing for Canada this summer...outside the usual homesickness, why can't I live in two places at once?).

My brother had lymphoma last winter, spring but he's cured now and Dad (almost 86) also had a health scare this past summer, but he's using a walker now. He had to have his lungs drained. Interestingly he was in an air conditioned room, paid for TV, meals brought to him and pretty nurses doing stuff and my sister and I were like this is like the ultimate male fantasy, we'll never get him out of here!!!! but when he came home, first thing he did was fix the fan. My folks are taking my son to their favourite restaurant soon, so he's fine!!! mind is sharp as ever!!!! Every time I go to the Dr. he tells me I have something different, but it's like a problem looking for symptoms, because I have none. After Christmas I am starting to look for someone new, but I feel fine.

What's new?

One thing which is brand new is the first volume in the new four-volume history of the Church now being published by the Church Historical Dept.  It's selling like hotcakes at Deseret Book at $5.75 for the first volume:  Saints: The Standard of Truth.
