While this book does not discuss the size of the temple that you mention, The Coming of the Lord does give much insight into the minds of those who contributed to the work. The reader is left to decide how much is true (edifying people) or false (deceiving people). https://www.scribd.com/doc/62792449/Coming-of-the-Lordhttps://www.amazon.com/Coming-Lord-Gerald-N-Lund/dp/1590382080/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1532800448&sr=1-1&keywords=coming+of+the+lord+gerald+n.+lund Thanks, Jim

In addition to the temples of Solomon and Herod, there are the prophetic temples in Ezekiel and the Essene Temple Scroll (11QTemple), all with different dimensions. The Jewish Temple Institute in Jerusalem is making plans for that future temple, saying: Quote According to the great sages of Israel, it is a positive commandment for the people of Israel to rebuild the Holy Temple conforming to the dimensions, characteristics and attributes of the Second Temple [Herod's]. Thus, although there were differences between the First and Second Temples, and vast differences between both of these and the vision of Ezekiel - it is the details of the Second Temple that are binding upon Israel for all time. This is why the majority of the Temple Institute's work and research, both in artistic representation as well as actual Temple restoration, centers on the aspects of the Second Temple. These details and dimensions are clearly described in the Mishneh of Tractate Middot (literally, "attributes" or "measures") of the Babylonian Talmud. This tractate also includes the dimensions and layout of the Temple Mount, and discusses many matters applicable to both the Holy Temple and the Mount. https://www.templeinstitute.org/future_temple.htm . I was talking about the LDS temple to be part of the Jerusalem temple? Isn't there supposed to be a little one tucked away in there somewhere?

strappinglad Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I don't know what measuring units are used today in Israel... be it inches or millimeters, but I am curious as to which length of cubit they might convert from. Which cubit was in use for the building of the Second temple, or was some other unit of measure used?? Dimensions could vary as much as 50% .

I'm not privy to such ultimate plans, but the Jewish Sons of Levi must first offer an offering in righteousness at their temple, to make up for their failure to do so a couple thousand years ago. That will be blood sacrifice and burnt offerings of the sort offered on the big altar in the forecourt of the temple. The Jews already know just how that is to be done, and are actively preparing for it. The first step, away from the Temple Mount, will be to kill a perfect red heifer, burn it, and sprinkle the ashes on the Temple Mount. That purifies the Temple Mount and allows Levites to enter it to begin construction of the new Temple -- which will be of the same dimensions as the Temple of Herod (the Second Temple). Once that has been completed, the Temple will be dedicated, and the daily animal sacrifices will begin -- just as they took place thousands of years ago. A senior, unblemished High Priest (Kohen) will be in charge, as was Caiaphas in Jesus' day, as was Aaron in Moses' day. Where all that leads is anyone's guess. 1

I was sure there had been an authoratve reference to a small LDS temple in the Jerusalem Center but can't find it so I guess there was a misunderstanding on my part.

strappinglad Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 There is that small matter of a mosque I think. Maybe everyone will be willing to share the mount.

I have no doubt that such a nice bldg could indeed be used for LDS esoterica, but that certainly would not include old fashioned blood sacrifice of the type which Father Lehi did as soon as he was down by the Red Sea (1 Ne 2:7). That's what the Jews plan to do with their forthcoming temple. They fully intend to replicate the old Pilgrimage Festival pattern on Mt Moriah -- including the annual Passover sacrifice, in which every Jewish elder will be expected to bring a lamb to the temple, have it sacrificed, roasted, and to receive the shanks of the lamb to take to their homes for the formal Seder meal. Jews haven't done that for thousands of years now, and will be more than happy to begin the full observance once again. That more than sets the stage for the apocalyptic coming of the Messiah, who will take his place as the King of Judah and of Israel, and who will reign for ever and ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rf3WK_IJ1g . Isaiah 2:1-4 "The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” 1

Current Israeli law gives control of the Haram es-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary = Jewish Temple Mount) to the Muslims, and that is not likely to change under foreseeable circumstances. There will be no sharing, unless there is some sort of cataclysmic event which changes everything.
Stargazer Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 5 hours ago, Atheist Mormon said: Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm.........There won't be any...... Yeah, at one time it was unthinkable that there would be temples behind the Iron Curtain, too. Then there was one in Communist East Germany. Then the Iron Curtain fell, and now there is the Kiev Ukraine Temple (once part of the USSR), and in the April 2018 General Conference President Nelson announced that there would be a temple in a major city in Russia. And of course, there is the Hong Kong Temple, built when the UK still ran HK, but now a part of the Communist Peoples Republic of China. So, impossible things do happen. Remember 1967? The combined might of five surrounding Arab countries couldn't defeat Israel? I don't know how old you are, but as i teenager I followed the war from a distance, and marked on a map Israel's military advances as they were announced. A most amazing victory. As for the non-LDS Jerusalem Temple, this requires that the Islamic Waqf be removed from administering the site, and doing so would instantly spark a war. I have heard that the building materials to rebuild the Temple are fabricated and in storage for when the time comes. Of course they'd have to do the project in the midst of fighting the war. Strangely enough, just such a war is predicted in the scriptures. All the pieces, both human and material, are in place and primed for the event. How much do you want to bet that nothing is going to happen, eventually? The place is a powder keg. A war is inevitable, anyway, unless something even more impossible happens -- such as the mullahs deciding that Israel has a right to exist and issue a fatwa to that effect.

They just need to get the word from the prophet to do so."

The link says, "The vision of the Lord, like clouds of light, burst into my view. … The cities of London, Amsterdam, Constantinople and Jerusalem, all appeared in succession before me, and the Spirit said unto me, ‘Here are many of the children of Abraham whom I will gather to the land that I gave to their fathers; and here also is the field of your labors.’” [source: History of the Church, 4:375–76; see also p. 106.] Are the cities of Amsterdam and Constantinople mentioned because they had a greater number of Abraham's children than other larger European cities?
