Do you see the church shortening the Endowment?

I just went tonight for the first time in years and saw a new to me video. I liked it for the most part, but I kept thinking, "Does Satan have to talk so slow?!" Overly dramatic. Or just be dramatic faster. I liked that Adam and Eve had more emotion.

What emotion?

Thanks,
Jim

But don't you agree the backup in getting names completed lies with the endowment?

Has the backup been demonstrated to be significant or are you assuming it exists?

I'm assuming it exists because a temple Recorder in the Provo temple told me there was a backup when I interviewed for a security job there.

Well, there can be a backup of a few thousand or millions. Whether it is concerning enough to merit changes....more info is needed, imo.

I've often thought we should do an entire 1-hour baptismal service when we do Temple baptisms.  Sing some primary songs, have some talks on baptism and the holy ghost, and then have the Temple President come in and welcome the new spirits into the Church.

Except that none of those things are part of the ordinance.

This concern has not gone away. I remember receiving instruction in the baptistery about 20 years ago to perform each ordinance as if it were for a son or daughter -- no rush.

And in our temple training meeting a month or so ago, we were reminded of this very point: each ordinance should be performed with reverence and care, no rush. We don't go to the temple to knock off a task; we go to interact with the divine, and it is specifically in the ordinances that the power of godliness is manifest.

that's what I think too, it shouldn't be a thing but an experience

But not every patron has patience.

Endowments are hard to do, especially now that we live an hour away.

I'm having trouble understanding this ...

For him it's hard to get 10 endowments done because he lives far away from a temple and each 1 takes 2.5 hours.

I love the new movies, but after you’ve seen them a couple of times you do start to wish they moved a bit faster.

The Church's media release said they slowed them down to accommodate more languages. Like FunOnlineMan and others, I'm really grateful for the time I get to spend enjoying the richness of the experience, and I'm happy that more non-English speaking Saints can enjoy the experience.

This is correct. The number of endowments completed determines the number of other ordinances. The Church has a formula for figuring this.

Patience? :unknw:

I get impatient during an endowment during the summer in both Provo temples because they never have the air on and I get hot and bothered from putting all those clothes on and makes me want the session just to be over. That's why during the summer I can only go to the Payson or Mt. Timpanogas temples because they have good air flowing in the endowment rooms and locker rooms.

Until I became a temple worker (who has to wear a jacket), I always froze in our endowment rooms. I reckon it's hard to get the temp at everyone's comfort level?

It sounds like you have a simple solution at hand!

In the temple you can go and do many baptisms, confirmations, initiatories and sealings at a time. 1 endowment session takes like 2.5 hours to get 1 name through. I believe this is where there's a big backup in ordinances to do. What spends a lot of time in the endowment is someone relating something to another and they relay the same thing to another. The cycle keeps going through the whole session saying every word and repeating every word. Do you think getting rid of all the repetition would help shorten the time an endowment session takes or all every single one of those repetitions and relating of information back and forth necessary to get the true experience. I know they've taken things out of the endowment in the past.

Yea....I'd stick with Catholic or Greek Mass they take all day😊  Edited to add; ( take it from someone who attended some of those endless masses in his childhood as punishment)😂

Are there more efficient ways to do ordinances? Perhaps. I trust those with the keys to figure out that end of things.  But I've never known anyone who is adept at family history to say, "Geez, I wish they would step it up!  I've got 4,000 relatives whose ordinances need to be done!"  And I've never looked at my watch during an endowment session ...  Not once.  Temple ordinances, even when performed for the dead, aren't just for the dead: they're also for the living.   We have a whole Millennium to go, and God isn't gonna say,  "Oops!  Forgot somebody!"  Your mileage may vary.

P.S.:  As for all that repetition, "Though this (seem) madness, yet there be method in't."  It's a didactic technique.  Think about it. (Pardon the pun! ;) )

Two other scriptures come to mind:  All flesh is in God's hands (Doctrine & Covenants 101:16) and even a tiny sparrow's fall to the ground won't escape God's notice (Matthew 10:29).

I know they shortened it in 1990, but I thought they had shortened it again more recently. I haven't been through an endowment session in about 12 years or so, so I wouldn't know.

I hope not.  I am saddened when I see the richness of ordinances apparently diluted for the sake of our comfort.  I regret now that I ever wished for the changes that have already taken place.  If I could go back and experience the initiatory as it previously existed, I would happily do so.  How foolish and immature I used to be.

But them speaking English doesn't seem odd to you?

While most personal tempting devils get trained in languages or work with what they know my personal devil seems to have slipped through the cracks (paperwork error maybe) and it has hindered the work a bit. His temptations in ancient Sumerian just do not work that well.

I have observed that the Lord treats modern Israel much the same as He treated ancient Israel, giving us what we ask for even when we ask amiss. I miss it too!
