You are confusing the needs of work for the dead and a live session. I recognize the needs of the live session being its current length; however, I think the needs for the dead can be achieved by what occurs at the veil. They are further along in eternal progression and I suspect they do not need some of the teachings about eternity we receive in mortality.
SettingDogStar Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 The "Endowment" itself is not a single ordinance but a series of ordinances lined up in a dramatic presentation. The first session ever held was in an attic and took a few days to complete. Once it was done Joseph proclaimed that the Apostles had all the keys they needed and that it didn't matter if he was killed now. So obviously he was okay with the way it was presented at the time, even though he tasked Brigham Young with organizing it better when the Temple was complete. I really think the church COULD but probably won't shorten the endowment. The instruction is to connect the ordinances together in a succinct order and give them context. However the church could continue to have longer sessions periodically for members to refresh but have a second more common "for the dead" session. They could bring a version of the "Lecture at the Veil" back to fill in the audience and then present them at the Veil. I think this would be awesome because they could even potentially re-expand the longer endowment with some instruction that has been cut for times sake. Obviously I've thought about this but I still think its really unlikely the church will take much shorter then it already is before the Millennium.
