There is no reason to doubt the existence of God. I am completely convinced God gave us the plan of salvation so we mortals can have a happy life. I am going to share five points to demonstrate that the church isn't a false religion. I feel the need to share some points because our church is constantly under attack by anti-mormon atheists

Number One A false religion tells it's followers to blindly believe everything. Our religion encourages everyone to seek the truth through prayer. 

Number Two The followers of a false religion are not happy. We Mormons are the one of the happiest religious groups in the United States.

Number Three  The leaders of a false religion buy mansions and jewelry. Our religion uses millions of dollars to invite others to come unto Christ. In other words, the church uses tithing money for missionary work and to create places of worship.

Number Four  All the leaders of a false religion are professional and talented speakers. Our leaders are ordinary men.

Number Five A false religion doesn't rely on the Holy Ghost to convert members. For our religion the Holy Ghost is everything. Our church is one of the fastest growing missionary religions in the United States because millions get converted by the power of the Holy Ghost. A false religion can't possibly convert millions with the spirit.

It is obvious our church isn't some ruthless corporation taking advantage of the members. The church shows no signs of being a false religion. I personally invite anyone with doubts to pray and keep praying about the church.

Okaaaaay...I am a happy person..very!!  I have a spirit of love and listen when I speak with God.  I stepped out of a church that told me what to believe..I don't have a church except for God's nature and my hymns are good books..I don''t tell everybody that what I believe is the best...it is the best lives that I see who live and love God with a sense of humility.  I invite everyone to seek good things and pray for those people who believe they are exceptional..and have it all.

I often read on critical websites about how the  church fits all the criteria for a cult.   I have looked at the list and I just don't understand what church experiences they've had that lead them to answer those questions in the affirmative.  

But I am pretty sure that it isn't so obvious to those who are critical of the church.   

But then I don't know anyone personally who claims that their bishops grilled them about masturbation from the time of their baptismal interviews, and made them feel dirty and unworthy and uncomfortable either.

I don't deny non-Mormons can feel the spirit in Christian congregations. However, a false religion can't use the spirit for conversion. God is not the father of all lies.

I've got to argue with your number 4 (though i think the rest are right on).  Not all of our general authorities live in mansions.  My friend has one in her ward and it's a nice house but it's no mansion by any stretch of the imagination.

Let me tell you what I see as progress and a paradigm shift for Sam.   I will take each number and show you my version and what I see as progress.

First there is no attempt here to reconcile religious beliefs with science.  THAT on its own is huge.

Do we or do we not have the "Plan of Happiness"?  Anyone want to debate that??  Does any other faith push that idea as the main and central doctrine of their churches?

Our friend Sam tends to be an absolute black and white thinker.  If we have the Plan of Happiness and our people ARE happy and that is "true", then all other faiths which do not have a plan of happiness must be "false" and be unhappy.   On that paradigm that makes perfect sense.

Number One

The Church encourages you to "seek the truth through prayer", but if the "truth" you receive doesn't support the Church leaders' teaching, then it's from the devil or your own desires, and you need to keep your mouth shut.  And if you don't receive their truth in answer to your prayer, it's your fault, so keep trying.  An "experiment" in which only one type of result is accepted and all contrary data is considered invalid is the same thing as "blindly believing everything."

Discerning Answers to Our Prayers

 

Number Two

Some Mormons are very happy.  Others suffer from chronic depression.  Some are bipolar.  I came home from my mission with severe depression, and lots of Mormons commit suicide every year, and I'm guessing it's not because they're "happy."  It's foolish to peg the quality of a religion to the "happiness" of its members, as if such a thing could be measured in any reliable way, let alone compared with any other religion.  I have it on good authority that the SVA's are happier than we are.  Prove me wrong...

Number Three

Humility is often in the eye of the beholder, so it's a dangerous metric to introduce.  Much of the Church's growth is coming in Africa.  If you were to poll the average African about what they think about the Church leaders' houses, do you think they might consider them "mansions"?  Besides, if God himself demands the finest for his "houses", wouldn't it be logical that he also wants his servants to have fine houses too?

Also, it's possible (and very likely) that some General Authorities use their salaries to buy some jewelry.  Again, it's a dangerous claim to make.

Number Four

Our General Authorities are paid for what they do, including speaking, so that makes them "professional speakers" by any definition.  And many of them are very talented speakers.  In what way could someone argue that President Monson or President Nelson aren't extremely accomplished public speakers?   I suspect there is some selection bias towards choosing leaders that are good speakers (or at least passable), and this extends to all religions.

I served my mission in the Bible Belt, and the idea that those people don't think they feel the Holy Ghost is absurd.  We can argue that they don't feel the Mormon version of the Holy Ghost, but now you're just making a fallacious argument.

Honestly, it's tough because on the one hand, the stories and fear get taken to extremes and become a kind of totem for some in the ex-mormon community.  But on the other hand, there are situations in which interviews have gone into detail and directions that might have been unnecessary.  So it's not irrational to argue that  better training and guidelines would be helpful.  With so many interviews being done, there are always going to be outliers, but better quality control is never a bad idea.

How true..but fear gets taken to extremes ever with TBM mormons...as a young girl..devoted to living gospel teachings..I sweated it out with fear that God would and my father would wish that I were dead..if my virtue was somehow destroyed.  There is a lot of things that my little mormon self has in common with the ex mormon I am today.

Number One... Unless the truth that one finds through prayer contradicts what current leaders are teaching.  Then you are told that you're wrong.

Number Two... Do you have data to show that Mormons are happier than other religious people?

Number Three... While it is true that we use millions of dollars to invite others to come unto Christ, on what other ventures does the church also spend millions?  Spoiler:  There are many that do not involve inviting people to come to Christ.

Number Four... The absolutes on both sides of this don't hold up to scrutiny.

Number Five... Members of other churches are also converted by the Holy Ghost.

"Ruthless corporation taking advantage of the members" is a strawman that isn't countered by any of your five points.

Your personal invitation is great but you need not base it on a premise of five made-up conclusions.

If a church's teachings that God was once a man who became a God and humans can also become gods are false, would
this make that church a false religion?

As for your other point, do you believe our purpose in life is human-centered ... for us to have a happy life?

As Mormons we shouldn't get too complacent. The gospel says if you love your life you will lose it and if you hate your life in this world you will gain your eternal life. This is an unnatural world and we are unnatural people -- that is why everyone grow old (or better said: they become sin-sick). Our leaders aren't sinners because they remain faithful to their wives and a loyal workers, and yet they still get old -- why? -- because the things we do are unnatural, anharmonic like bad-sounding music. The scriptures plainly tell us much about those who have been deceived into believing a false way (i.e. "false religion"):

Number One:  Members of the false way appear to be "ministers of righteousness" (2 Cor 11:15).  That means they appear righteous.  They read and study the Bible.  They claim to love Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ!  They attend church regularly, title of all they posses, obey the commandments, love their neighbors, pray, fast, etc...  (Matt 7:15)

Number Two:  While the false religion incorporates belief in Jesus Christ for salvation, in reality theirs is another Jesus, another gospel, another spirit (2 Cor 11:4) that only seems genuine. 

Number Three:  The false religion requires faith in Jesus Christ plus worthy behavior for eternal life.  The rejected of the savior in Matt 7:22 believed in Jesus Christ and they believed in their own worthiness and best efforts.  The "goats" in Matt 25 were completely shocked to learn they hadn't been feeding, clothing, visiting, etc...  Why?  Because they truly convinced they were doing these things during mortality.  Consider John 4:32 "I have meat to eat that ye know not of".

Number Five:  False religion never GIVES anyone eternal life.  Look it up!  Every single religion out there is the same variation of good works that will one day result in eternal life.  A false Christ can only offer a promise or the assurance of eternal life, but he does not  and can not GIVE anyone eternal life.  Only those who believe in the true Jesus Christ HAVE eternal life.

Which makes any claims of false or true ministers entirely subject to personal faith beliefs, not a demonstrable fact.

There is only one Jesus.  There is not "another Jesus" in reality or in imagination.  The difference is in the understanding of his traits.

Number Three:  The false religion requires faith in Jesus Christ plus worthy behavior for eternal life.  The rejected of the savior in Matt 7:22 believed in Jesus Christ and they believed in their own worthiness and best efforts.  The "goats" in Matt 25 were completely shocked to learn they hadn't been feeding, clothing, visiting, etc...  Why?  Because they truly convinced they were doing these things during mortality.  Consider John 4:32 "I have meat to eat that ye know not of". 
Again, an issue of faith and interpretation.  Christ required worthy behaviors.  He said so repeatedly.

And once again, an issue of faith since this can be said about ALL religions.  Why can you say what takes place in my heart is a lie but what takes place in yours is truth?
There may be only one truth, (I don't believe in "what's true for me isn't necessarily true for you" nonsense).  But our claims on ability to identify it have sources that are equal in validity.

Define "have eternal life".  What does that actually mean?  What is it you think you have now that Mormons and others don't?
