Right, because having good etiquette and treating others with respectful dialogue is clearly a tactic of the evil Dehlin and his ilk.

It would appear that you have a funny definition of good etiquette.

Probably not, but there isn't much of a tradition of keeping the counselors in stake presidencies, like there is a tradition of keeping the FP counselors, with only few rare exceptions.  Obviously, many people considered it a demotion, otherwise you wouldn't have all the hubbub about it.

I suspect it is more likely less people know the stake counselors, so in numbers fewer will make a stink about a "demotion".  There are those who pay attention to such things at all levels, sometimes they care enough to say something.  The numbers for someone in the 15 are big enough to notice.

Back when I was an infant, we lived about an hour and a half from my grandparents.  When Grandma heard Dad's calling in the new ward was not up to snuff, she drove over and let the bishop know the kind of quality leadership he was missing out on.

Shortly thereafter Dad got called as EQP...perhaps because his records finally arrived and his experience in running small branches was out in the open or perhaps the Bishop had enough on his plate without Dragonlady showing up again.  I bet Dad's reaction was "gee, thanks Mom...didn't have enough to do with the move, new job, and new baby".

If only Elder Utchdorf's mom was around to ensure he got his due recognition.

All the hubbub indicates is that there are a lot of people as clueless as you about administration in the Church of Jesus Christ.

If this is public knowledge and anyone knows where we could find this information, could you please post a link.  I'm unaware of how to find what committee assignments are out there for the quorum members, and I've done a few google searches without any success.  It wouldn't be difficult for the church to list the assignments of its highest leaders, and many organizations show this information online for public consumption.   Another dig at the end with the "I assume you realize" condescension.  Really, this is getting tiresome.

You can typically find such information on individual bios for Church leaders at LDS.org. Just Google the name of the leader. The bio on the Church website is typically the first hit that is returned.

" major assignments for which he is uniquely qualified … and where he is needed most."

  • chair of the Missionary Executive Council
  • chair of the Correlation Executive Council
  • primary contact for the Europe and Europe East Areas

Each of these assignments are so critical, imo. The Europe areas are struggling with decreased membership, and having Pres. Uchtdorf over that area makes tons of sense.

Chair of the Correlation Executive Council is for sure needed. His own brother-in-law, I believe, is Michael R. Ash. The guy who wrote a book for those that are going through faith issues. And I'll bet Pres. Uchtdorf will make sure that materials in the correlation dept are up to date and a true history of the church and hopefully throw in some spice and include more Grace themes.

And not sure about the Missionary Executive Council calling, but I'm sure he'll boost that area as well, since missionaries are coming home early at a higher rate, and there are less missionaries out there than before.

He sure has his work cut out for him. I can't think of a better man to do it. Just hope he's good at delegating some things, poor guy.

I believe it’s less a matter of cluelessness and more a deeply entrenched habit of gleefully taking advantage of any possible opportunity to say something negative about the Church.

Not seeing it, Scott when I click on the individual ones.  Did you mean something different?

I can barely get worked up about this kind of thing when it actually hits my life. It boggles my mind that people seem to genuinely care on an almost personal level about a shift in a governing body full of people they do not personally know. Not only do they care but they seem willing to be offended on behalf of the people involved.

People are weird.

Really?  Seems like people taking an interest in the church dynamics would be viewed as a positive thing and evidence of vitality.

Sad how often people take personal jabs at me, especially when the board rules prohibit it.

I had already found these bios, but no description of committees or special assignments that I could find.  If you have any other suggestions that would be great.

Wow, more negative comments and assumptions about me personally, anyone else want to pile on?

I don't understand why he couldn't do all of that as a member of the First Presidency.

(Attention, Robert F. Smith and anyone else who does not or who might not "get it": Yes, I'm posting with tongue firmly planted in cheek here.) ;)

I believed I was coming to your rescue. I would much rather have someone say I’m a cynical but knowledgeable critic ather than have it be said I’m a clueless ignoramus..

Wow, then I read fake news. ;)

Mike Ash prefers not to make an issue of the relationship.  I knew him for over a decade before I found out, iirc, so I don't believe I should be sharing that info publicly unless I see he has done so.

I wonder if the rank and file of the church believe that when a stake presidency is released, and old counselors do not come back as members of the new stake presidency, they are demoted.  There's something in the NT about Jesus chastising the mother of two apostles lobbying with Jesus to have them sit closer to Him.

Some people might suggest that being released as a counselor of the bishop or stake president as a promotion.

https://www.lds.org/church/leaders?lang=eng

For example, if you Google Bradley D. Foster, the first hit takes you here

https://www.lds.org/church/leader/bradley-d-foster?lang=eng

where you learn that Elder Foster is the executive director of the Family History Department.

If you go here

https://www.lds.org/church/leader/brent-h-nielson?lang=eng

you learn that Elder Brent H. Nielsen is executive director of the Missionary Department.

When you go here

https://www.lds.org/church/leader/larry-y-wilson?lang=eng

you learn that Elder Larry Y. Wilson is the executive director of the Temple Department.

Nobody has the time or opportunity to become well informed on everything. Thus, we each of us are clueless on a virtually infinite number of subjects. No shame in that — unless the clueless one fails or refuses to recognize his cluelessness.

Call me crazy (you wouldn't be the first ) but "taking an interest in ... church dynamics" is one thing; the uproar among purportedly-faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over such things as Elder Uchtdorf's reassignment (in an organization, the members of which are supposed to believe God Himself helms) is quite another.

They didn't have the same info under the five apostles I checked though.
