The year of His return

We cannot know the day or hour according to Matthew but we can therefore know the year. The year is 2000 years after his resurrection, which makes it 2034. But I add plus or minus 5 years in case of calendar-keeping error. This means that from January 2018 there are only 17 years to go.

A good book also calculates the year 2034, it is The Great Pyramid Decoded by Peter Lemesurier -- the book is out of print but might be found at major libraries or second-hand bookstores. The passageways and chambers of the Pyramid are all about mankind's spiritual progress, the progress of both sinners and the false church and the true church.

The apostle Paul urged us to seek out and meditate on every good thing, and our Leaders also urge us to read good books for our learning. Its good to know the date to look forward to meeting Christ in the air.

I myself would not bet on it.

Where does it say we can know the year? Just because the Bible doesn't add "the day, hour or year" doesn't mean we can know the year. According to this logic we should be able to know the month also but I don't see you claiming that.

We should always be ready for His return, as he will "come as a thief in the night" 1 Thessalonians 5:2

So you have the Bible not specifying something and a book of crackpot theories about the Great Pyramid and we have the exact year of the return? Color me skeptical.

I calculated the Second Coming once using Daniel and a bunch of other sources. God is over four and a half years late. If I give him the same five year plus or minus  you did he has four months. I like my guess better.

I've heard they'll take odds on anything in Vega$, but I can't find anything about the Second Coming. ;)

As I said on this board recently (at http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/69869-where-are-we-now-in-book-of-mormon-timeline/?tab=comments#comment-1209773816 ),

I'd guess you have about 26 years before the Second Coming -- that is until the next Jewish Jubilee year which begins Monday Oct 5, 2043 (1 Tishrei 5804) and ends Thursday Sept 22, 2044 (1 Tishrei 5805), from Jewish New Year to Jewish New Year.  You will notice that Sept 22 is the anniversary of Joseph Smith taking the Book of Mormon plates from the hill in Manchester, which was also Jewish New Year.  It is also the Autumnal Equinox.  Since the Jewish calendar is a floating lunar calendar, such synchronisms are uncommon, but noteworthy.

The last really important Jubilee Year was the Mormon Exodus of 1847, which included the miracle of the seagulls and crickets.

God tends to deal in sabbatical cycles.  For example, Jesus formally began his  ministry at the beginning of a sabbatical year (Luke 4:16-21).  Likewise, Joseph Smith was born in a sabbatical year, had his first vision in a sabbatical year, and took the plates from that hill at the close of another sabbatical year.  A jubilee is merely a seventh sabbatical cycle.

I just finished reading a book called ' The Bible as History ' which was written about 30 years ago.If the horrific events which accompanied the destruction of Jerusalem by Roman legions are anything like what is to happen before the second coming we have a ways to go before we reach that level of human depravity. Mind you , things can change quickly, note the fall of the Berlin wall.

I really need to ask God if He likes obsolete cycles, numerology, and big round numbers as much as some people seem to think He does.

I am new around here, so wanted to drop in and say, "howdy!"

When I was young, I used to worry about what seemed to be the possibility the Second Coming was imminent and I would not live a normal, full life.

Now that I am middle age, I worry about the possibility that the Second Coming is not imminent, and there is a very real possibility I might actually have to die someday before it happens.

You just can't win . . .

Things do seem to be changing rapidly these past ten years. There is no telling what will be going on ten years from now.

I think the Holy Spirit indicated I was wrong about the book (The Great Pyramid Decoded by Peter Lemesurier) being out of print. I think it is available online at New Age, Adyar, or Theosophical bookshops.

The Holy Ghost told you it was still available? I hope it did not involve a lot of intensive prayer and fasting when a Google search probably would have sufficed.
