Duncan Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Something i've noticed in pre 1995? ( I think that's when the Church re-did it logo to emphasize Jesus Christ) buildings is the old style of logo is still there. Our Stake Centre, built in 1988, has the old style, why doesn't the Church update the title to the post 1995 logo?
Calm Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) Money...(guessing) Edited June 20, 2017 by Calm
Jane_Doe Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I'd assume because it hasn't needed fixing yet. The old sign still works, they'll probably replace it when it needs replacing.

Thinking Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 When the Church was organized in 1830 it was called The Church of Christ. In 1834 the name was changed to The Church of the Latter Day Saints. Finally the name was changed to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I wonder if some of those old buildings from before 1838 still have the earlier names on them. 2
rpn Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 If you think it is an issue in your community, ask your sp to ask faciltiies to change it. (Of course if some vandals destroyed it, they'd probably use the new logo when they replace it. If it happens after you ask, you will be the primary suspect.) 1
stemelbow Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I'm guessing your particular case is that those in charge of your signs in your area don't believe in false advertising. just playing. 1

Why did the LDS Church feel they had to tack on the title "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" to the Book of Mormon? Thanks, Jim

Different buildings ... different purposes. Apples/oranges. One is a reception center, restaurant and tourist destination that is essentially an extension of Temple Square, and the other is a place where work gets done. If squandering on one's own comfort and delight were policy, the offices of the Church would be the one they lavished the money on. You are aware, are you not, that the JSMB was a world-class hotel before the Church repurposed it? 1

My comments weren't for criticism of the building, I love to visit the place. Obviously you have a point.

If that logo returns, appropriately inform/caution your neighbors. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Warning_inscription Edited June 30, 2017 by hagoth7

It feels a bit weird to me now, that my husband and I spent our honeymoon night there, it was my husband's choice. He also was part of the restoration construction crew. And I had a brother-in-law that worked the front desk where guests would check-in.

Ezekiel is taking about two nations, not two books. Ezekiel is talking about both. Even Protestant bibles connect Ezekiel 37 with the promise, recorded in John, of other sheep and one eventual united fold...a promise that began to unfold among Nephites in Ameriica, and at least one other location, where one such early record, written by one among them, specifically/accurately suggested that his people were one of the flocks spoken of. I suggest digging into the word etz. It doesn't just mean stick. Was a word that also described the wooden writing tablets used in ancient times. A reference to actually writing on two such wooden tablets. There's a good article on it in the Feb 1987 Ensign. A pic from that: Edited July 2, 2017 by hagoth7 1

I see your point, but there is no reference to books - just groups of people. In that case the Jews (all the 12 tribes) and the Gentiles would become one. Ezekiel was talking about the northern and southern kingdom (the twelve tribes again). The Bible was not written by people from one or two specific Israelite tribes if you wish to go with that analogy. If you really compare the Bible and the Book of Mormon, you can easily see significant differences. Thanks, Jim
