I don't recall people claiming to know as much as they were speculating. Personally, it was my wishful thinking that it would be reversed quickly, but with Pres. Nelson and Pres Oaks at the helm I don't see it going away any time soon.

Your thoughts may have been mere wishful speculation, but I specifically recall John Dehlin and Bill Reel claiming to have more than that, namely information from an anonymous source. When pressed on this board, Reel coyly declined to say anything in greater detail. He may well have had nothing and have been toying with us or merely going on what Dehlin had posted. But that's not what was purported.

Do you have quotes from them to help us figure out what is at issue?

Alas, no. I've tried several times to find one or more posts from Reel, but have been unsuccessful.

rongo apparently has a similar recollection, though, as reflected in some of his posts on this thread. To wit:

All hypotheticals aren't created equal. You give ridiculous extremes above that are nothing like what I asked. I asked about a Church policy implemented a year ago that ex- (or working on it, ex-) Mormon bloggers are saying will be reversed next year, based on alleged leaks and insider info. I share your skepticism and hope that these rumors are completely false, but I can conceive of (even if only as a thought exercise) the possibility that they might also have accurate information. I sincerely hope not!

Edited to add:

Also, this by rongo from the link provided by Calm a few posts below (thanks, Calm):'

That's why I am skeptical of Bill Reel/John Dehlin's claims that the handbook will take this out next year. That kind of whipsaw-whiplash with the policy --- especially given the public outrage --- well, it's just hard to see that happening.

Alright.  I guess I have nothing.  without them participating and without anything from them, I'm not sure there's anything to add.  We can all guess what happened as Cinepro pointed out.

Reddit exmormon, so won't be linking, has Dehlin saying there will be changes to handbook by Aug 2, 2016

Confidential, anonymous sources are so ... convenient.

They can say ... well ... anything, really.

:unsure::unknw:

And I can't conceive of anyone who is intimately acquainted on a policy level with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who can also do a ten-second Google search being willing to confide any such things to either of the Messrs. Dehlin or Reel, respectively.  Stranger things have happened, I suppose, but that would be ... very strange.

And in answer to Mr. Dehlin's question in his Facebook post linked above, I'm quite sure that very few, if any, of the people for whom the policy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delaying the baptism of children in gay households was the catalyst to spur their disaffection would consider returning.

This seems familiar from Dehlin. But I remember Reel being more adamant about having something from a confidential source, though I still can't find anything from him.

I don’t know Reel, but Dehlin’s insider info, seems to have a higher reliability rate than anyone else I know making predictions about the Church.  That’s not to say that is a HIGH success rate just higher than anyone else I know.  I think that’s because Dehlin has a fairly large LDS network.

Or a more visible brand.
