"Devils are boring creatures with minds of gritty yuckiness.  They are banal." —The Nehor

The Devil or Satan gets nothing but bad press and where does all this bad PR come from?  It originates with Jesus and the bible.  But has anyone ever heard his side of the story?  No they haven't.  Old Satan may be a really nice guy if we were to get to know him.  According to LDS, one third of the hosts of Heaven followed him, he must have some good attributes.

Remember there's always another side of the story and we should get both sides before we condemn anyone.  But where do we get the other side of the story, I don't know, the Christian side always slams any other opinion than their own.  Well, I'm being a little silly on the subject but seriously I have thought of this item over the years and wondered how fair is it to never know Satan's side except as explained by the Christian followers who always condemn.

No it's not Tszuki, it's me Sanpitch.  And I am a little bit serious, at least something I have thought about over the years.

Think of all the really horrible people that have lived on this earth and been able to murder millions of people (i'm not going to list them because one could lead to an invocation of Godwin's law and that's against board rules, but they are fairly obvious).   Then think of all of the people who followed them.

I hope that helps you to see how incredibly unreasonable the argument in bold is....

What you are really saying is, maybe God and Christ are huge liars and truly evil beings and we're being duped by them, right?  That's what you are actually asking?

Because, that's the only reason that we would need to hear satan's side of the story.  Only if Christ is untrustworthy, would that be necessary.  Only if we can't trust Him, or God, and only if They want to deceive us would we be in danger of judging satan unfairly.

Well, let me tell you, at one time I was a close personal friend of Satan's.  And I can tell you he is a dirty rat.  A real back stabber, a real bad character, with the most evil tricks possible.

And now that I have unfriended him, I sure hope he doesn't remember and try to hold me to that contract and all, you know, about the money and all.

So you have no need to hear his side of the story at all.

If you consider deceitfulness, cunning, disingenuousness, manipulativeness, having the ability to be a persuasive con artist, and being able to smile sympathetically while stabbing someone in the back "good attributes," then you are correct.

And just where do you get your info on that old meany?  Are you sure it's accurate?

I've read it.  As you are aware i'm sure, we do not believe the bible to be the infallible word of God.  Doing something in God' name is not the same thing as personally doing it in your own name.

God doesn't have to be involved at all when His name is invoked.  When someone personally does something evil though, we don't have to wonder whether or not they condone it, do we.  They lay claim to the evil and there is no question.

So my point stands.  We have many examples of evil men doing very evil things and they did not lack for followers.  (These are not stories of evil men that we have to judge the accuracy on-these are facts about evil men.)  Therefore, the idea that if someone has followers then they must have some good attributes making them worthy of following is unreasonable and invalid.

Notice how in verse 23 he doesn't say he doesn't exist, just that there is no hell and he isn't as evil as the prophets say he is. Good luck.

19 For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be stirred up to anger, and perish;

20 For behold, at that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.

21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.

22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.

23 Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment. John Milton gave us Satan's point of view.

I like to think of Satan as a prodigal son and that one day he will mend his ways and come back.

I've often wondered how much of what we consider "sinful desires" are "Satan", and how much are just chemistry.  Then South Park totally nailed it.

Link (there's a little language, so if you don't want to click it, I'll explain it below)

In the episode, people are getting addicted to a new online game which includes micro-payments.  Stan wonders why people get addicted to stuff, and what the devil has to do with it, and so Satan shows up and actually explains it. Satan explains addiction to Stan in concrete terms, setting him down on the bed to explain all about genetic factors and dopamine imbalances.

You can easily read Satan's side of the story and see his work on the earth. Not sure why people think dark could be light...

I have the good fortune so far of not knowing the dark side but have heard stories of others that felt it. I do have a problem when people give too much credit to him for sinning. They try to take it off themselves and give the blame to his influence. It's them for crying out loud.

There are two ways to get the balanced perspective you seek:

1) Become a satanist. Start actively inviting devils into your life. If it turns out well for you then the devil may not be such a bad guy.

2) Live so righteously that you become a target worthy of more direct measures and experience what satanic attack is like.

I recommend 2. 1 sounds fun but in the quote above I was quoting from experience partially gained from 1 and that quote sum up my experience.

The idea that someone has to have good qualities to be followed ignores all of human history. It could be argued that good qualities make people less likely to be followed.

Nehor, I've heard the saying (thanks Mom) that satan (small "s", why the heck do I ever capitalize!?) works especially hard on those people in leadership (she was talking about in the church, I always thought anyway). So what I'm trying to say is, your comment is confusing to me. So good qualities, the devil leaves you alone?

There you go with more info on Satan from the anti-Satan forces.  Still not a word from Satan.

Yes, Satan gets the blame for everything bad that happens to people and everything good is from a Righteous cause.  I hear it often from my LDS relatives and from some JWs in my family.

Ed:  That is probably why I started thinking about Satan's point of view.  Everybody hates Satan but no one knows anything about him other than anti-Satan forces.  My opinion is that he doesn't even exist.

As with the Light of Christ and the Holy Spirit, my experieince with the adversary and how well I know him comes first hand. He is not nice, has no good attributes, his side of the story is a lie and antithetical to the plan of happiness, and I certainly do not condemn him for he already is.

By what spirit would you read satanic scripture in order tio udnersatnd it the way he wants you to? Compare that answer with D&C 76: 12; D&C 91: 4; and D&C 138: 11.
