Tacenda Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Lonely in my unbelief, need to talk about it along with other non church things. Can't tell you what a relief it is to get these things out. Not very good at holding things in. 1
Freedom Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 My motives? I am mostly here for the entertainment, but I am also here to learn. 3
JLHPROF Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 To compare and contrast my understanding of the restored gospel with others who have spend much time studying it. If I only had my own reading of the gospel I would never know how accurate my understanding was. It doesn't mean I have to agree with anything, but I need to know other perspectives to compare and contrast. It's healthy. 1
Duncan Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 My motives? I am mostly here for the entertainment, but I am also here to learn. same, besides people who are interested in history and doctrine are my people. Besides what I have learned from all people here is amazing!!! now, if I can only remember everything hahahahhahaha!
Teancum Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) You know I am not sure anymore. I used to thnk I was still in a search mode and many days and on some threads I still feel that way. Other days and on other threads I feel maybe I am just here to debate. Maybe like wheni was a true believer LDS hobby apologist I came to argue and defend the church perhaps to sustain my own beleif. Now perhaps I argue, amd critical and/or skeptical to bolster my skepticism. Not sure. Or perhaps it is to debate that which I don't think is true maybe? And there is an entertainment factor. Maybe that is the main reason.I need to think about this some. Edited April 24, 2015 by Teancum 1
JulieM Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'm here to ask some questions and discuss some issues that I can't ask about during Relief Society or Sunday School or even within my own family. I'm so grateful for many of you for being so kind and patient with me. There's only been one person on here who was demeaning and rude in my interaction with them. So that's a pretty good percentage! Most on here are people I feel I'd be friends with in real life even if we don't agree on everything.
Freedom Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I have found that the best way to learn is to express what you know. Once you start putting your thoughts into words, you realize either how wrong it is, or how incomplete it is. Also, we tend to be blind to the flaws in our own arguments because it isn't every often that we argue with ourselves so by putting it down for others to see, what seems obvious to you is made quite the opposite by someone who has considered it from a different perspective or a bit more experience. 4
The Nehor Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 To provoke reactions and drive people to anger or laughter. Occasionally to share a smidgen of wisdom if I happen to have some that day. 1
3DOP Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 My motives, I fear, continue to be imperfect. I am vain. I like to get praise and I know how to get it. I hope I have mixed in a few less selfish motives too, 2

CCRW Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 I assume "community" (entertainment within) is pretty foundational for most with only the likes of say Holy Catholic not having that on their list. For a bad analogy, maybe we have a spectrum of some lily white sheep, through some gray to Valentinus black sheep in that community.
CCRW Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Your thoughts are stupid and you are stupid for having them. Is this helping with the humility? I thought you were busy making donations?

The Nehor Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I thought you were busy making donations? No, I was busy being confused by that photo. Then I went to go spar and beat some people up and got over it. Okay.....I got beat up but the guy was twice my size.
The Nehor Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 As with most things having to do with the Church, I'm really just here for the refreshments. Make sure to bless them to lower their calorie count.
SmileyMcGee Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Because there's no fun in participating in a forum where most will agree with me. I much more prefer to test my beliefs and ideas against people who have no problem telling me I'm an idiot or an apostate....also I like to criticize people's beliefs. They almost always make me laugh or at least bring a smile to my face (And yes, you sprinkle some wisdom in there with the humor too.)
Daniel2 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 An old man, going a lone highway,Came at the evening, cold and gray,To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim;The sullen stream had no fears for him;But he turned when safe on the other sideAnd built a bridge to span the tide.“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,“You are wasting strength with building here;Your journey will end with the ending day;You never again must pass this way;You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide—Why build you the bridge at the eventide?”The builder lifted his old gray head:“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,“There followeth after me todayA youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been naught to meTo that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;Good friend, I am building the bridge for him.” https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2003/10/the-bridge-builder?lang=eng 3

Coreyb Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I am just obsessed with reading/talking about mormonism. Not sure why. I follow several groups and forums on mormonism and this is one of the best. I talk about it with my wife a lot, but it's not her passion

The recent LoF thread is a good example .... Thank you for all the years of dedication!
