LittleNipper Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) All things are possible with the LORD; however, nothing is possible without Him. And while God has a permissive will, He will not lie, cheat, or steal ---- nor does He condone such. So, the goals of God are what ultimately He makes productive/possible. The earthly desires of man need to be overcome through the moving of the Holy Spirit. It's God's goals which are ultimately made possible and eternal and not the material desires of lost souls. God does not make everything rewarding. And there will come a time when everything which happens now will no longer be permissible. Edited January 4, 2015 by LittleNipper
Teancum Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Westminster Confession of Faith 2:3. In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost:[o] the Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father;[p] the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son.[q]o. Matt. 3:16–17. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out ofthe water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of Goddescending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying,This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, andof the Holy Ghost. 2 Cor. 13:14. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love ofGod, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. See Eph. 2:18.p. John 1:14, 18. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and webeheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace andtruth.… No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in thebosom of the Father, he hath declared him. See Heb. 1:2–3; Col. 1:15.q. John 15:26. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto youfrom the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shalltestify of me. Gal. 4:6. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of hisSon into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. In idea that the three personages of the Godhead are one substance is extra biblical teaching.CFR for a bible verse that says they are ONE SUBSTANCE. 2
Flyonthewall Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 So, you agree with the Westminster Confession of Faith 2:3?Article of Faith #1 We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. Does your confession of faith disagree with that?
Jim Stiles Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Article of Faith #1 We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. Does your confession of faith disagree with that? I posted WCF 2:3. Look for yourself.
Jim Stiles Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 In idea that the three personages of the Godhead are one substance is extra biblical teaching. CFR for a bible verse that says they are ONE SUBSTANCE. Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
Jim Stiles Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Yet there is this scripture in Genesis 3 22 ¶And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Some gods. They got kicked out of the garden.
Flyonthewall Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I posted WCF 2:3. Look for yourself. Our Article of Faith is simplified - no added philosophies. Your WCF 2:3 has added things that are not in Scripture, like "substance"...and no, Duet 6:4 mentions nothing about substance..
Flyonthewall Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Some gods. They got kicked out of the garden.Beside the point.

Duncan Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Yes, Deut. 6:4 does mention substance. how do you figure?
Jim Stiles Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 how do you figure? The oneness of God is one of the major themes of the Old Testament. It was the major theological idea that separated the Hebrews from their neighbors.
Duncan Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The oneness of God is one of the major themes of the Old Testament. It was the major theological idea that separated the Hebrews from their neighbors. and how do you get that from that verse? 1
bluebell Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 God never promised to make human beings god. Satan did, however.Genesis 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. He didn't just promise apparently, according to your belief system, he also made it happen-he made them gods. Gen. 3:22 "And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:" In my belief system, satan didn't have that power or ability. In verse five he was simply explaining what would happen when the fruit was eaten, mixing a lie (ye will not surely die) in with the truth (ye shall know good and evil) to make it more palatable (as he likes to do). 1
Flyonthewall Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Yes, Deut. 6:4 does mention substance.Show me.
ERayR Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Show me. Hey I think I am starting to get the hang of this. If it isn't there make it up just like Jim does.
Flyonthewall Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The Article of Faith fails to mention that Jesus is God. It also fails to mention that the Spirit is God. It also fails to mention that there is One God.Ok, here is additional teachings from lds.org The Church's first article of faith states, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” These three beings make up the Godhead. They preside over this world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven. What does it mean to you about the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost if they are members of the Godhead? A little more: Although the members of the Godhead are distinct beings with distinct roles, they are one in purpose and doctrine. They are perfectly united in bringing to pass Heavenly Father's divine plan of salvation. 2

Jim Stiles Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 and how do you get that from that verse? Read the rest of the Old Testament. The only time plural number is used to describe God (Gen 1:26) is where it is used as the royal we.
Duncan Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Read the rest of the Old Testament. The only time plural number is used to describe God (Gen 1:26) is where it is used as the royal we. oh, I have! have you read what Christ said in the NT? in John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. so, I would say that Christ is saying that his Father is also our father (of our spirits like it says in Numbers) and his God and our God are the same being (God the Father us and Jesus) 1
Flyonthewall Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Polytheism. Is it polytheism to believe in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost? Sounds like you are putting it our there that your god is this magical mystical "substance" you keep bringing up, not the Father, Son and Holy Ghost...which makes sense since you have declared you do not believe in the same God we do. To each their own I suppose.
Flyonthewall Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Read the rest of the Old Testament. The only time plural number is used to describe God (Gen 1:26) is where it is used as the royal we.Have you forgotten that God declared Moses a god to Pharoh? Now how many do you count?
Jim Stiles Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Polytheism. A better word would be Henotheism.
Brent Sohlden Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I don't think it's any of those reasons, personally. They know we believe in Jesus, but we blaspheme by not believing in the Trinity. They know we believe in the Bible but we blaspheme it by adding unto it with the Book of Mormon. They know we believe in God but we blaspheme him by claiming we can become like him.Yes those are precisely the reasons Evangelicals give. I personally am a member of the RLDS/ Restoration Branch Movement and I believe in the King Follett and Plurality of Gods sermons of Joseph Smith and I love the Book of Mormon. So I would not be considered a Christian by Evangelicals or Catholics and Orthodox or any other Christian sect for those reasons.
JLHPROF Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The LORD God is One.The Father is God.The Son is God.The Spirit is God.The Father is not the Son.The Father is not the Spirit. The Son is not the Father. The Son is not the Spirit. The Spirit is not the Father. The Spirit is not the Son.The LORD God is One.Worship God.Worship the Father.Worship the Son.Worship the Spirit.Worship God. Oh look, a new Edward Lear poem....
